ZombiU doesn’t have online multiplayer — but it’s not all bad news

Gabrielle Shrager of Ubisoft has confirmed that ZombiU does not feature online multiplayer. As someone who would have loved fighting alongside you — the readers — against hordes of zombies, this is a shame. But the game does feature “a local Asymmetric Multiplayer mode” that does sound incredible.

Known as Survivors vs. King of Zombies, this mode is deemed “asymmetric” because both players (it’s a one vs. one experience) have completely different perspectives and experiences. Whichever player is deemed “the King of Zombies” can control hordes of zombies with the GamePad. The goal? Kill the survivor.

The survivor, on the other hand, has the opposite goal: survive. It sounds like the single player-experience, but having someone controlling the zombies rather than the AI taking care of it should be a ton of fun. Or at least, this is still the game I’m the most excited for at the launch of the Wii U.

    I saw a video about that and It looked like the person with the gamepad just spawned zombies and didn’t actually have complete control over them. Maybe they changed it I guess.

      This is just a load of crap… there are some really good singleplayer games out there… look at mirrors edge, skyrim, all the silent hill games, amnesia, max payne, THE FRIGGIN MARIO GAMES, ZELDA, METROID, POKEMON, ANY RPG, or well most games for that matter…

      Yes you are retarded and online multi-player does not make the game.
      Look at Dead Island for instance, it is a good zombie game, but the single player was killed for the sake of multi-player.
      If they just shoe horned online multi-player into Zombi U, that would just ruin the game.
      The game is designed around the basis of a single player.
      Not many.
      Just because a game does not have online multi-player does not mean it is not worth $60 bucks or as good as those that do.
      Until you understand this then you continue to be the bane of a million faces.

    Not that I’d ever buy/play it (not a ‘horror’/'gore’ fan) but that mode does sounds pretty neat, I take it that it’ll take ‘hide and seek’ to a WHOLE ‘nother level….Am I wrong?

    The game is already great, that online player would’ve completed it though. Its kinda like a quality birthday cake but without the icing.

    Now to find people nearby to play this game with me…The people closest to me are cousins, the oldest being in early 20′s (though I doubt he’d want to play) and the second-oldest being 13 and Autistic. The next town is 14 minutes away from me, followed by 2 bigger towns 6 minutes longer. I know practically nobody in those towns…That’s why I wish I could have online.

    Well that kind of sucks but I’m really hoping that they at least have online interactions with Miiverse and the ability to post about parts of the games and get help from fellow gamers, just like they demonstrated in that video with the zombie game. That was cool.

    Not once since its announcement did I expect this survival horror rebirth to have online multiplayer, I expected the occasional zombie player and the like.
    Co-op would be good for this but co-op horror games only work really well when both players are physically close but can’t see each others screens.

    In a world where people complain about games like dead space, mass effect 3 (i enjoyed ME3 co-op very much) and spec ops the line having multiplayer be happy to have this almost brand new experience with nothing tacked on or forced in.

    Side note here’s hoping there will be a left 4 dead styled game where you have 4 players playing normally and a person using the Gamepad controlling the zombies acting as the games director, with the option of talking control of the special infected

    Well I didnt even expect a MP – it s a SP survival game-sth like that should not get a online MP because it doesnt need this-its all about the “you´re the only survivor”atmosphere-which youll never get in MP.

    I played this mode at Gamescom. The player with the GamePad has a choice between different types of zombies, each with their own speciality (speed, power, etc). On the GamePad he can see where the other player is. He then has to touch a point of the GamePad to place his zombie there. You cannot place zombies in a circle radius of about 10 metres from the other player, but the zombies will automatically go after him.
