An industry source has told Kotaku that:

After the next generation of machines comes out, Wii U will be a performance orphan. It will be closer in performance to the next iPad than the next-gen machines.

That in itself doesn’t spell doom for Nintendo, of course, and it’s impossible know when these sources have any biases that might affect their judgement of what should be a purely fact-based argument. To dive deeper into a perspective on where the Wii U is heading, you might want to read the full report.

  • mondy

but ipads are portable gaming devices and the wii u is a home console. what the hell? wii u should be way better than the ipad 4

    • Bilbo Baggins

A ipad could cost 599 US dollars
and with that comes a price drop, then a slim model, then a nother price drop, then new form of control, then a bundel with the new control, abd then a nother price drop
So the ipad could one day be more valuable then the wii u

    • lol

Lol apple doing a price drop on their ipad? Hahaha that was a good joke, tell another one!

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

The Wii U Will be more valuable, because now one wants the Ipad 2, of the first one for that matter….Do you ever hear of people buying a mint iphone 1?

    • My ship sails in the morning

Apple makes an iPhone with improvements justifying a new model. And no one buys it.

    • lump182

iPads are also running a rather resource intensive OS and are effectively laptop pcs. Its a stupid comparison and probably just an off the cuff comment. Its meaningless, dont panic. Even if it made sense and were somehow true, it wouldnt necessarily be a bad thing seeing as the next iPad could be enormously powerful for all we know :p

    • Sid Burn

A probabbly 300 US$ console has the same power as a 600 US$ tablet. Well what’s the problem?

I mean if Nintendo put hardware in and sell the console for 600 US$ nobody will buy it. Only Smartphones or Apple Hardware can sell at such high prices!

    • Bilbo Baggins

No one got my ps3 reference :(

    • rafael

i know right the Wii U game pad only has house range and a normal house to all of the rich people.

    • http://gravatar.com/jacknzack27 JacknZack

      @Bilbo i got it

    • jonehi

I would like to know if the person who said this has used both devices because this is imposable just looking at how games look the wiiu is close in power to that of a mid-range 2012 pc the games i play on my ipad look like they come right out of the year 2000 I seriously doubt that the wiiu has such little power that it should fear competition from a device that plays games that look like they belong on a ps1

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

yah right baggans, a Wii u will cost more than an iPad with resale value, now-one wants an iPad 1 anymore, ever herd of people wanting to buy a mint iphone 1? Some retarded person on ebay sell it for currently $10 000 them nerds thinking they’ll gat any money from that….

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

Add that with “$200″ shipping! it’s then like screw you and all evil sellers

  • Classic Hyper Sonic The Hedgehog A.K.A Rc/AGES

Still gonna be fun for me.

  • Lene

A person who doesn’t have any better reference than the iPâte when it comes to performance and video games, is by definition a person than has no idea what he is talking about.

This kind of people aren’t even worth listening to.

    • Drew

probably right most people think apple is this all powerful device better than anything.

    • lump182

      This.

    • Ace

      yep

  • Drew

most likely crap info why would an ipad be equal thats stupid if they end up equal im not buying wii u and NEVER will buy an ipad

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

Yah, but why does this iPad need faster processors and GPU’s?! the regular consumer who will buy a Wii U of iPad will simply play games with low processing demand, like Angry birds, or a Super Mario Game

  • Ezz151

Calm down everyone, I read the full interview and this is to be taken more as an illustration than a literal statement. And it’s a negatively biased opinion at that, fun it runs off the assumption that contemporaries’ consoles are gonna be absolute technical beasts, which is unlikely because Microsoft and Sony can’t afford current PC tech that will cause them to either sell at a loss or at a rediculously expensive price. Sony’s investors won’t allow it and Microsoft isn’t about to make the same mistake (besides, their focus efforts are still very much “control the living room, do everything box”). The only way they blow Nintendo out of the water and still make money is if they wait a few years for a better advancement to cost ratio, which Sony might be doing (they said they wouldn’t launch another console until “significant advancements beyond what PS3 tech offers” can be utilized [paraphrased]).

    • Lene

I know. But not everyone can understand this kind of things.

At some point, all this becomes harmful not only to Nintendo, but also to video games, the VG industry and more.

    • what the funk ever

NEXT THEY WILL SAY TWIN ANALOGS IS CORE FPS CONTROLS AND WII REMOTE IS NOT FOR FPS

      OH WAIT A SECOND

  • Watchmen

There probably referring it to the Wii U controller it self.

    • SleepyGuyy

LOL… well in that case , a pompilot from 2001 is more powerful than the WiiU controler. From what Nintendo has said, the controler simply decodes video & touch interaction (aswell as the button & resistor control). And appearently acts as the most badass looking TV remote I will ever use.

    • Watchmen

IM NOT TALKING ABOUT SPECS, IM TALKING ABOUT PERFORMANCE.

  • Caius

They’ll have all that power, will be to expensive for the mass market to afford and fall to the wayside.

There is no denying that the PS4/720 will be more powerful that the WiiU. But hasn’t that always been the case though? And (with the exception of the GameCube) hasn’t Nintendo always end up on top?

I’m not to worried about the next gen for Nintendo unless they drop the ball with delivering games.

    • TechTris

Well, the N64 was behind PS1 sales, but ahead of Sega Saturn sales.

    • Bewoulf2000

Fully true. Exactly how I feel.

    • lump182

Yeah and (apologies for using Apple as a comparison again, especially in this thread) Apple products are NEVER using ‘bleeding edge components’. Much like Nintendo they use the most efficient hardware for the job and usually they perfectly balance the power/cost ratio.

I’d much rather have a cool, quite, small and economical machine in my lounge than a loud, hot, unstable, energy guzzling monument wedged under my TV. Saying that, i love my PS3 and wouldnt change it :p

    • Link01000

What? Apple doesn’t have a good power/cost ratio at all. They overprice EVERYTHING.

    • lump182

Yes, they overprice on the finished product. but you’re paying for the name and the fancy materials plastered onto the outside. They dont use exotic/unstable hardware. They get alot of bang for their buck hardware wise. They just dont necessarily pass it on to consumers.

I guess a better way of putting it would be to say they would rather use a middle range but stable processor for example, rather than a hot, unstable behemoth just for the sake of saying “we’re fastest, woohoo!”. Reminds me of Nintendo. Apple also would rather make software which takes full advantage of hardware, instead of just jacking up the specs to make everythign whizz by faster. Also like Nintendo.

Dont get me wrong; Apple aren’t some magical friendly comapny who wants nothing more than to help us all save money – they’re just smart with what they spend money on. Like Nintendo :p

  • http://hybrilynx.net/ Hybrilynx

they always seems behind to be honest. im surprised the wii uis actually a wii u. im definitely expecting some hidden bs though. i know something will be wrong with it. its probably going to be something like you cant send someone a message while your playing a game online or something. the 3ds wont even let you use the home menu period. that was very disappointing.

    • SleepyGuyy

Well the 3ds is portable, & relatively cheap too. So it can only run 1 application at a time ( you can run two if you count the programs on the top edge of the touch screen). And as for sending messages mid game, well they seem to show that in the concept video. Both issues are due to RAM, which is difficult to portablize… and has dropped greatly in price. The WiiU should have at least 1GB of RAM. Considering the 6 year old consoles CAN send messages mid-game with 512mb of RAM. And Nintendo has only lacked significant power this generation (due to a well planned move that, in my books, saved the industry). N64 was .. well 64 bit (during a 32 era). And SNES made up for its sound chip with physics & animation (later 3d rendering) . the GameCube was very powerful (yet the weakest system ,PS2, did the best … hmmm). And the NES helped pull the industry out of a rut … so they did that twice.

    • mrgrimrjs

you can play a game on the 3ds and send a message using the web browser through ebuddy and return to your game even if you are online (specifically mario kart 7) i think that is fairly impressive for a handheld

    • jdub

Really? Whenever I hit the home button when playing mario kart online I come back to a communication error.

  • Kehool

that is a pretty ridiculous statement seeing as current ipads boast less than 1/8th of the graphics processing power of the old xbox 360/ps3

floating point processing power of the SGX543 in the ipad 3 is 28.8GFLOPS @ 7.2 GFLOPs per core

whereas the xenox GPU of the xbox 360 for example manages roughly 240 GFLOPs

and owing to short battery life there won’t be a huge improvement on this with the next generation ipad

it is painfully obvious that whoever said this has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about and merely said it to be in the center of attention

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

WTF who uses FLOPS in modern computing?!
We only use that in supercomputers

    • zeta

when talking about GPU specs GFLOPS are still used but usually people talk about memory clock and other things but GFLOPS are still a part of the specs

    • Kehool

GFLOPs are aside from actual benchmarks the only value you can use to directly compare different chips

they give a pretty good overview in the case of GPUs as floating point operations are exactly what you need to calculate game graphics and with good optimisation (as is usually achieved with game consoles… with an ipad not so much as their life cycle is much shorter) you’ll be able to harvest most of that processing power for games

comparing CPUs in that way is more difficult

considering that there are no 3D-benchmarks that can run on both platforms this is the only way to directly compare them

    • lump182

Its starting to get less and less meaningful though.

The Wii can apparently push a combined total of around 60GFLOP. But I doubt you could call it “twice as powerful” as the iPad 3 wiht its 30GFLOPS, right?

Its all getting very blurry when it comes to graphics performance (probably not the best choice of words there…) But raw “grunt” is becoming less and less important.

    • Kehool

“The Wii can apparently push a combined total of around 60GFLOP. But I doubt you could call it “twice as powerful” as the iPad 3 wiht its 30GFLOPS, right?”

i’m not convinced about the 60GFLOPs
nintendo has never released any official figures
i’d put it closer to the suspected 8 GFLOPs of the nintendo gamecube
maybe somewhere around 15-20 (and developers seemed to agree that the wii only had about 1.5 times the power of the gamecube)

on the other hand all ipad 3 games i’ve seen have either had a very low poly count or a less than native resolution
and this isn’t surprising either as the ipads GPU is completely underpowered to handle games at these resolutions.. so either developers have to cut down on the number of polygons quite heavily or let their games display at a much lower resolution
GFLOPs was never an accurate way of comparing GPU peformance in 3D titles (nvidia and AMD desktop GPUs are testament to that) but it still gives a rough overview and in case of comparing a pad with a console it’s the only way available
and when you’ve got one device with 30 GFLOPs and one with 240GFLOPs you can be pretty sure which one will deliver the better looking games

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

  • King Boo

probably going off the idea of the wii u being twice as strong, at best, maybe, to the 720/ps4 being 3-6 times, or more powerful, even though sony already said the ps4 wasn’t going to be that big of a leap.

    • uriel

the ps4 wont be as big of a leap but i highly doubt sony will let there next gen machine be matched by wii u . but that will hurt them .im confident now that wii u will do good . long run :/ …we will see we havent seen what it and 720/ps4 can do.

    • King Boo

I’d say ps4 is around 25% stronger than wii u, depending when it launches. Kind of extrapolating based on the 10% difference between ps3 and 360. It just seems to me that it’ll be more than year after the launch of wii u we’ll see the other systems.

    • lump182

I think intially, the PS4 and 720 were going to be much closer to the Wii U than they are now. Epic and other “Dudebro” company’s pushed MS especially to bump up the specs. Its a dangerous game to be playing, seeing as the industry is in a bit of a state right now. Its admirable of Nintendo to stick to their guns but I’m not sure it will work int he long run…

  • Albinopig

The Wii u Tablet may be equal to Ipad but the system definetley isn’t. Also I wan’t to know who these ‘sources’ are because I want to know how they got there hands on the NextBox and PS4 specs already…

This is not true at all, the Wii U is a gaming machine with a second screen on the controller, that will be utilized in different ways. The main game is still on the TV. It is a new innovation. The iPad tablet IS the screen, not the TV’s screen.

  • Colin

It sounds like an emotional comment. Wouldn’t read much into it and I also don’t care. I know it will be able to go well beyond Xbox 360 and that’s more than enough for me. But i’m also going to own a PS4 for multiplats that don’t hit the wiiu.

    • zeta

that was the only thing i’m worrying about, no matter how i spin it i would always prefer to miss any of the other two consoles over nintendo’s console, this being mainly because of their games and partially because of hardware quality (Nintendo consoles in my experience have had the least problems)

The question for me is how many plats will need to be missing for whatever reason (specs, willingness etc) for it to warrant me getting another console, most likely the PS4 as i think Sony has more and better exclusives than Microsoft while still having the cross plat games.

  • SEGAGIGA

Kotaku’s editor spilled a lot of BS and some truth in that article. With all the FUD that’s going around I can simply say that the competition is scared of the Wii U and its potential to crush all analysts’ prediction and come out on top again.

Nintendo’s playing their cards right by revealing tiny bits of their plan. They haven’t really brought out the big guns yet. Ever wondered why the GamePad’s battery life is so low, almost comparable with the 3DS? It’s not just the game screen that’s feeding off it.

The Wii U still has untold features Nintendo hasn’t revealed yet. We’re just two more months away from the true unveiling and the competition is getting restless. /gg

I suspect he is talking about sales performance, and I agree. The Wii U, like the Wii, will have no ‘parent’, and, like the iPad, sell far more than the PS4 or 720, which despite releasing no factual information have been rumoured to include everything from 16 core CPU’s to virtual reality glasses.

    • BigNliker

well if you see his statement in the way of selling-I´m on your side. They both will sell more than XBox 720/PS4.But out of this quote it looks more like he really means it negative,so it looks really like he refers to the gaming ,not sell performance :/

Even if the Tablets doubled in power each year, year on year soon they would be so far into pc territory they wont matter

  • Enzo

I read the comments on the article and the article itself. Or rather “journal” as the people who run the site say. I kind of find myself pissed off about it because the writer of the article started boasting about how they have been right before about the Wii U and saying their sources know what they are talking about. It seems like a lot of speculation and a lot of bias to me, and I think I’d rather not read these things until everything has come out. Once it does, then I want to assess the situation MYSELF.

    • lump182

Good plan :) Kotaku may get some rumors spot on (im sure they have valid sources in some cases) but they also get alot of stuff horribly wrong. I personally dont think a developer or anyone involved in game development would resort to comparing two different products like that. Same goes for “X times as powewrful” remarks. It just shows a lack of understanding about how this sort of hardware works.

  • anonymous

    bullshit

  • lump182

Cant wait for the rumors to start now about the next iPad having a 6 core behemoth of a processor and a 2 TFOLP GPU…..that’ll confuse some people ;)

Seriosuly though: What a stupid comparison! The 360 is probably closer to the Wii than it is the PS4 in terms of ‘performance’….but does this mean anythign at all? no. He may aswell be comparing Apples and Cheese. Rabbits and Volcanoes. Tuberculosis and Candy Floss. Any of these comparisons would be as useful imo.

No one even knows what the ‘next iPad’ will be rocking “performance” wise – so its just mindless speculation.

  • BigNliker

I dont tink so.Why should Xbox 720 and PS 4 be better than 1080 p?Yes , they will of course have better antialiasing and so on , but thats really not nearly the same difference as the one between wii and Xbox360/PS3.
So I dont think it will be that big deal…

    • NK

1080p is as high as most current tvs go so i dont think the’ll be leaving 1080p but they might be like pc where the developer doesnt have to limit themselves and have as much space as possible

    • BlackjackQc

If the wiiu can do real 720P it’s going to be a more powerfull console the the PS360.

there some 4K TV out there but there like 40000$

    • BlackjackQc

what i wanted to say is that the 360 and PS3 don’t do real 720P or 1080P. they just upgrade a 520 signal.

    • Kaizar

      Over 99.999% of 4K TVs, are 3D TVs & glasses-free at that. i.e. Toshiba.

And the majority of Wii U games will run at real 1080p, but there will be a bunch of 3rd party games running at real 720p.

But it’s better than PS3 & 360 which most of there games were lucky to even run at real 540p, if they even did that.

      MINT BERRY CRUNCH!

People these days. They think that Apple apps are true games and ‘backlash’ games on true VG consoles as the lower class. Saying that, apps on mobile devices will become the future generation of gaming. But they’re just a perfect example of the casual audience. The real gamers know, that no matter which true gaming company’s side your on, they all have a deeper game experience, regardless of whether it be the competitor or not.

from what ive heard the the xbox wont be a big step from the current gen as people think also the next ps4 wont come out for about 5 years until the ps3 and vita are paid off since both caused the compan losses

    • lump182

Recent developments point to a 2014 release for both consoles….and thats at the latest.

And Sony are apparantly bringing the noise, hardware wise. Very risky strategy given, as you have pointed out, they lost so much money this last generation. Their other sectors (TVs, Phones etc) havn’t been performaing as well as planned either so this could backfire on them if they dont get their price right. The next generation is gonna get messy. Bring your wallet, a chair and some eclipse-glasses because I think Sony may go supernova.

  • A Link to the Present

I’m starting to cringe every time I hear “iPad” now, even if it’s not about the Wii U.

The Wii U and the iPad both have a touchscreen. Other than that, they have NOTHING IN COMMON. Nothing significant, anyway.

    • BlackjackQc

I agree with you, the Ipad is a multimedia device as in listening to youtube and playing 10 minutes long simple games. Without sticks and buttons it’s a useless videogames device. I hate playing games on my android phone. I just don’t get it, playing with your fingers on the screen will try to see something.

  • lump182

I think Nintnedo have the right strategy going into this generation. They’re being characteristically sensible by being slightly conservative harware wise, as the risk far outweighs the reward. By having a console that is profitable (or very nearly profitable) from day one, they can afford to have a slow start, they can afford to have slip ups (RRoD, YLoD etc) but at the same time they can reel in a new crowd of fans who maybe wont have looked at console gaming ebfore and will be wowed not only byt the HD visuals, but by the fun and unique controller. The 1 year+ headstart will be crucial.

IMO, Sony have passed up a huge opportunity to shut MS out of the market. If they’d have underpowered their console to match the WiiU (ok, make a it a bit more powerful seeing as its Sony and they like to wave their junk in our faces), then the two consoles would have effectively shunned MS’s uber powered box out of the industry. The install base would have been enormous for any developer wanting to create games on the “WiiU/PS4 level” and it wouldnt have been worth spending massive budgets on utilising 720′s extra power. That would have been the smart thing to do imo for a company like Sony. They needed to kick MS in the balls, instead they’ve just cosied up to them.

Likewise MS could have done the same, and shut Sony out of the market which would have killed off SCE due to their poor financial position. If rumors are to be beleived this is exactly what MS was planning until around 6 months ago when Epic convinced them they need to go balls out with the tech. the first 720 rumours were of a box a few times more powerful than Wii U that was going to support a tablet-esque controller and was going to focus on multimedia capabilities. That all changed and the arms race has taken off again.

It’ll all end in tears. the only silver lining for Sony is that they appear to have picked a similar architecture to WiiU, so they could still be port-buddies which would help make up ground against Microsoft.

    • Kaizar

      It’s a 2 year head start.

Because the X Box 720 is realistically coming out in 2K14 & PS4 in 2K15.

I though people agreeed not to compare the Wii U’s tablet to ipads and other tablet devices because people would whine and complain they’re two different beasts. Like comparing an apple to a tomato sure they’re both red fruits but grow completely differently and taste differently. Heck the only thing the devices will most likely have in common is the touch screen interface for similar games.

    • tbpb2010

      *agreed

And when I say ipad and other tablet devices I mean current gen of course since we have no specs on next gen tablets/ipads

  • Kevin Jo

    @Bilbo Baggins
Haha, I didn’t know what you we’re talking about. Now I get it.

  • swag

ipads arent really that great. they cost a ton of money and the games suck.
this is what apple people do, they buy some apps and get some free ones. they play angry birds then they get bored then they play like cut the rope and then temple run and they keep playing until they have no more apps to play with so they just buy more. On the other hand game console games can provide hours of play.

I don’t like the Wii U. I wish they would’ve made something better. But its summer so I don’t care. I’ll just wait for new Xbox or Ps4.

    • http://www.reddsite4.com david

And why are we still discussing wii u, its old news, we get it 50 say hate it 50 say like it,(mostly wiitards)

    • Enzo

Are you seriously going to say the people who like the Wii U are mostly retards? People who love the Wii and nothing else? I don’t think you should have posted at all, considering this is a Wii U blog.

  • Kaizar

    This is total bullshit.

iPad and all other tablets & phones & almost all Computers, NEVER use any more than a 200 MHz GPU.

The Wii 243 MHz GPU & PS Vita 266 MHz GPU & 3DS 400 MHz GPU & the Wii U has said to be at least 750 MHz GPU by 3rd party developers who give their company’s name’s in sources.

And the iPad 3 is only like 67 million polygons, so the iPad 4 wil be no higher than X Box 360 in polygons.

The CPU in iPad 2 is 1 GHz, so the iPad 3 & 4 won’t be that much more powerful ear in CPU.

    This person is just bias.

    BITE MY SHINY METAL ASS!

    • uriel

@ kaizar i hate it when you bring up MHz ….for some reason i never believe you …i think it was since you tried saying the 3ds was more powerful then vita… which is far from the truth.

    • Kaizar

      The GPU is more powerfuler.

But the CPU is less powerfuler than the Vita, but not as much as you might think.

But the Vita has better Motion Sensors.

But the 3DS has better outer camera.

And the 3DS has more better RAM than all other Video game Systems, LITERALLY.

    • jdub

Your surprised that the 3ds has a better gpu? The vita has 1 screen, the 3ds has 3 (sort of. It has botton and the 3d screen has to render things twice) I find that perfectly believable

    • Kaizar

PS Vita CPU = 4-core 1.2 GHz, but can only do up to 1 GHz a core.

3DS CPU = 2-core 1.8 GHz, it can be overclocked at more than 3 GHz a core.

The 3DS per-install firmware runs at 800 MHz a core for battery life.

      2.0.0 = 900 MHz a core

      3.0.0 = 1 GHz a core

      4.0.0-7U = 1.1 GHz a core (like 2.2 GHz, when needed)

I think they make slight improvement to the RAM with each Wireless Update, which would explain a lot I guess.

this makes wonder if people believe everything they read or see. I can assume from the past history nintendo wii u will be built to last, I think the sales of 360 are iffy tbh, are they counting the rrod replacements i oftern wonder… and yes this happened to me 2 tiimes so far…and come on do you think sony and microsoft will make huge leap with the next hardware’s. what with the probloms in todays world… they seen the 3ds bomb becuase of a high price and look at vita selling yes but not nearly as much as sony hoped and i’m so glad i didn’t buy it straight away

    • kenrulei09

by bomb i mean the release, i brought a 3ds on day one knowing the games wasn’t great, but i also knew kh 3d was coming zelda mario mario kart. ps vita has the problem of the 1st party not being that good, and if lego batman 2 is any indication of anything, i doubt i’ll buy one anytime soon. I mean a port of a 3ds game owch of vita owners, and my biggest problem is sony seem to think we will buy the games on different platforms the same game twice. as much as i want to play uncharted on vita, i can miss it till the system picks up…at least a steady flow of game’s did come out for the 3ds after they sold it

    • Kaizar

Actually the 3DS sold more in the first 1 month sells & first 6 month sells & 1 year sells than all other game systems, but at times excluding the Game Boy Advavnce.

The problem is that Nintendo told everyone that they will sale 4.0 million by April 1st 2011, but instead only sold 3.6 million.

So everyone in the media is a dumb ass motherfucker.

people said the exact same thing when the wii was released
      to the word
and the dreamcast didn’t fail because it lacked power
it had everything a good console needed actually
it failed for entirely different reasons

if anyone can pull this it would be nintendo

    • NK

one thing that kilked the dreamcast was the ps1 becoming 99$ and all the competion gang banging them also sega made bad moves last generation that led to low fan morale for the dreamcast also they didnt want to sale at loss so they stopped selling like atari only sadder

    • NK

also nintendo are excellent business people only people who i know who can make the under dog console successful (other companies copy this for gain but failed) lets not forget nintendo trolled microsoft out of about 1 million dollars for a dying 2nd party company who didnt make microsoft a fraction of what it made nintendo thats if thats not anyone who can pull that off isnt going to keel over anytime soon (also they hold the position that microsoft has wet dreams about best global selling console 3ds)

the gpu in wiiu i reckon is between 750mhz and 1000mhz aka 1ghz

im guessing at 800mhz ish as that matches the peak bus speed of 128 ring bus of ibm’s SYSTEM ON CHIP DESIGNS

im still not convinced of a POWER 64bit unless a new out of order power7 design again clock speeds ether tri core broadway or power7 i reckon is around 1.6ghz maybe 2.0 to 2.4ghz but im thinking lower

a customized 4830 to 4870 will easy hit 1tflop 1000gflops and 32mb edram huge bandwidth will take it up again verses a pc gpu

even at 800mhz gpu and 1.6 ghz cpu the gflops will be over 1tflop

  • Beat

…Are the next gen consoles really going to be that powerful? I mean sure they could make them ridiculously powerful, but if the price is outrageous then people will just buy the WiiU instead.

    • imrblankie

No next gen consoles won’t be THAT much more powerful look at it in relativity to PC hardware. Next gen for consoles is going to be where PC hardware was at 3 years ago. It’s not going to be a huge jump in terms of graphical fidelity because it would be way too expensive for the consumer to do anything serious like super high end PC GPU in the consoles.

  • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

Don’t you realize? The Wii U will be made of Nintendium, so it will outlast the apocalypse. Processing power doesn’t matter so much since the other consoles are capable of being broken.

A shipment of Wii U’s falls to earth from an airplane. Earth’s crust is cracked to the core and volcanoes erupt. The consoles are stealthily recovered and delivered. No one notices the difference.

    • Dita

Bicentennial_Pidgeon: this is the best post I have read in a very long time

  • Ness

Fucking Nintendo. They keep disappointing me. First, they have that shitty Namco Bandai working on Smash Bros., which will now be bullcrap and then they pull this – their “next gen” system is as powerful as a goddamn iPad?

Extra extra read all about it, real thinking people play Nintendo. There are not enough drones or xbots in the world yet for Nintendo to suffer. The 3DS is making profits and breaking records ala DS, Wii U shall sell tones and third parties and indie game makers shall reap rewards.

  • ectoBiologist

    Ugh.
    1. It’s about the game, not the graphics. And i doubt this is legit
    2. If you don’t like it,fine. But at least we know Nintendo is trying.

    Seriously?
    4.The WiiU is dumb.
Newsflash! Your on the wii u blog.
    C’mon guys.

You know none of you Nintendo fans have the right be graphic whores, considering how much you all defend the wii’s capabilities.

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

It was in POFRMANCE, not graphics

  • imrblankie

To be honest, this isn’t a big deal because really the current iPad (called The Next iPad) is just as powerful if not slightly more powerful than the current gen consoles which means that if this article is talking about the current iPad or the next it makes sense really.

    • Kehool

      no it isn’t x_x

the games look decent but they’re nowhere near the old console generation concerning optical quality

don’t be fooled by the retina display
the best looking games for the ipad (which still don’t look nearly as good as the best looking xbox or ps3 titles) are displayed nowhere near the native resolution

  • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

What I find so annoying is that they compare this to Wii U in terms of performance, THE GPU AND CPU IS CUSTOM MADE BY APPLE AND APPLE DESIGNED THE CPU AND GPU
unlike the Wii U which uses a custom power PC CPu or something, yah it’s still custom, but the Wii U chip is based on another CPU for computers

    • http://www.csfgpapercraft.com Seb

“Custom” has nothing to do with performence.
      Your argument is invalid.

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc.

Custom Gpu the one on the Wii U is a CUSTOM CHIP THAT’S ONLY ON THIS DIVICE.
Apple A6 chips are built from the ground up by Apple, therefore Apple can release the information when they want to, thus the tech specs don’t tell us everything (the clock speed etc)

But since the Watson chip is used in computers, where manufacturers can give away the tech, the chip Nintendo makes is based on the chip, where we CAN KNOW SOME OF IT’S SPECS

Nintendo changed some of the chip, instead of building it from the ground up like apple, therefore we don’t know EXACTLY all the specs and is unfair

  • Peter

No more talk, GIVE US THE GAMES!

  • Nintendo did it again

After the next generation of machines comes out, Wii U will be a performance orphan. It will be closer in performance to the next iPad than the next-gen machines.

Nintendo Nintendo you did it again

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc.

Oh my God…. YOU ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS?!?!?

    • DarkPhazon_Qc

      U are an idiot ..

    • BlackjackQc

I think there’s a lot of misinformation from some anti-nintendo internet site. it’s strange that the bad news always come from an ananymous guy or compagny when Ubisoft or Gearbox and a couple of others tell the opposite.

    • BlackjackQc

But the best thing to do is to not feed the trolls and adopte a wait and see. I think that Nintendo as done their homeworks the right way and that we will get an awesome console that will givePS720 a run for their money. And the thing a see is that if the Wii U is succesful as the wii was, the other 2 will change their console design because people are not willing the put 500$ on a another console. Nintendo is showing the competition that costumers don’t want waggle fest anymore. And changing of subject, i went through 2 Xbox360 in 3 years (still not working and a 4 gig is still 199$ that’s to expensive for a 7 year old console), my N64 is still working so is my Gamecube and Wii. The other 2 have to work on the durability of their consoles.

  • WiiUMiiNI

It’s important to remember that this is nothing more than someone’s opinion based on what they believe.

This “information” or “news” if it is even worthy of such names is not based on any facts; merely opinions.

Opinions mean nothing; and I do mean NOTHING. To state as a fact that it the competitors will be super-powerful compared to the Wii U is bullshit.

All you can do is WAIT for an announcement from the companies.

I will be buying a Wii U regardless of whether I find it will be or not because I enjoy the games Nintendo brings to their consoles and I generally have a better experience on there consoles.

I’ll also be getting the Wii U’s competitors because I like the games that are brought to Microsoft and Sony’s consoles as well.

    P.S.
I’m a gamer; I categorize myself as a gamer not as a core/hardcore gamer or a casual gamer but as a gamer because I enjoy games.

    P.S.S.
Forget about this crap and enjoy games, don’t get over-involved emotionally or physically just have a good time. :)

    • Yea

      Yea

    • BlackjackQc

How can someone not agree with you, there will always be trolls to try and spread misinformations (on any subject), so don’t feed them, make your own opinion and make the choice you want.

I think like you said we will have a better experience on the WiiU than the other two. But i want multiplats for a couple of reasons, and the most important one is multiplats give diversity in gaming experience and some games than Nintendo don’t do (dead space and AC, i’m looking at you.

  • nintendo gs and custom opengl apis kick windows ass

lets be real generous and give a tablet gpu 40gflops and 12mb bandwidth for graphics thats still many many times lower than xbox 360

and guess what tablets are far away from that figure

tablets are designed like low end laptops theres no dedicated gpu ram theres no high bandwidth in the system cpu or gpu the ram is very slow the gpus seem obsessed with backing the latest ios api and windows direct

when they dont have the ram or speed or bandwidth to even get close to native resolution of the tablet let alone support dirct 11 and great graphics

api like direct 11 is HYPE and tablets and phones are clock for clock LIKE 10 X WEAKER THAN A NINTENDO HANDHELD
