Reggie Fils-Aime Nintendo Wii U Media Briefing

In case you’re worried you might not get your hands on the Wii U before the end of the year due to shortages like the Wii faced, Reggie Fils-Aime has explained that they have “learned a lot of lessons from the launch of the DS, the launch of Wii and the launch of 3DS”, and:

…our supply chain is solid. My job is to work with retailers, work with other business partners to create demand for the product, and have the consumer get excited. And I think we’re well on the way to doing that.

Of course, they don’t want to flood the market with the product, so I still expect there to be difficulty getting the system at all locations. Total sell-outs don’t do them many favours though, so I think they’ll have it covered for the most part.

OH SURE YOU MADE ENOUGH WHITE ONES BUT YOU PRETTY MUCH SENT 50 black ones to the only gamestop within 100 miles and they were all bought during school hours on thursday.

At least thats a good sign that the Wii U is going to be succesful. On the other hand it would suck if they sold out before you could preorder one.

If they say that their supply chain is “solid”, then why are we still waiting for our retailers to get more deluxe sets?!

I was going to get my deluxe set the day after the Nintendo presentation, but they already ran out, 12 HOURS after the presentation. I settled for a basic set preorder on that day, and was put onto a waitlist for the deluxe set. It’s been 15 days, and still no word on whether or not GameStop is ever gonna get more Deluxe sets than the one single allotment from Sep. 13.

I love nintendo, but it looks like the Wii U (especially the deluxe set) supply is just as slim as the Wii’s… -.-

there is a difference between pre-order stock and launch stock, basically he’s saying that at launch there will be enough, whether that is guaranteed or not is another thing as a lot of people will probably want the Wii U.

Allow for more reserves of the deluxe set you jerks! They were gone on the 14th in most areas!

    So is my dick

I worry abut the “hoarders” at launch … you know… the ones that go to the major retailers and buy multiple units off the shelves only to wait until the retailers are sold out to sell them on auction sites for 2x-3x retail. They should have a name for those people… (besides the one I’m thinking that isn’t very polite to type).

I don’t understand how if a product sells out in 12 hours and so far if every retailer responds with “We’re not sure when we’ll be restocked”, the supply can be declared as “solid”. Oh well… guess I should be preordered right away then :/

Well launch is still over a month away and hopefully Nintendo notices the demand so they better start producing more U’s, Deluxe or nothing for me!

My game plan is to just wake up bright and early and wait out in front of the store. Worked for the Wii. I got there 3 hours early and I was the 68th person in line. (luckily they had 75 units at this store).

Protip: Preorder early and pick it up later on in the day. Just a quick word of advice bro.

They were suppose to have a solid supply chain with the 3DS, but by April 1st 2011 they sold 3.61 million of their 4 million shipped 3DS.

There were only 390,000 Nintendo 3DS left in the entire world…….and all of the Radio Shack’s were sold out.

I barely was lucky enough that I could get my hands on a 3DS on April 6th 2011 for the remaining around 300,000 in the world.

And it took Nintendo so many weeks to send a new shipment of Nintendo 3DS’s.

    MINT BERRY CRUNCH!

Its about time Nintendo goes on a “promo spree”. The only reason the 360 sold more units was because they promoted better. Good job Reggie,I hope Nintendo wins this time around. (:
