When talking about the Wii U at an investor meeting, Satoru Iwata admitted that:
…we are going to announce the release date and the price next year when we are able to explain the specific proposals.
This makes me wonder how much Wii U information will be revealed at Nintendo’s expected press briefing in fall. They might be more tight-lipped than anticipated.
This is tough. Sony and Microsoft (specially Microsoft this time around) are trying to come out with something good. They can’t focus on the key element that sold the Wii, or else they would have more problems than with the current 3DS. They need to make a console that fits into the category of current technology. And hopefully have some extended third party support compared to previous consoles.
Excellent! Now we have a date in which the release date will be released to the public!
Wait……… *__*
It’s a release date’s release date.
Got a problem?
i know where this picture was taken it is in my city san jose california you can see the VTA bus in the back lol
Image is win.
They did this with the 3DS. It’s not all that bad.
However, it does make me think of a June release at the earliest.
Yes………mind…………melting!!
*Inception Sound*
he doesn’t exactly specify the date and price
$300-$400. Comes out either summer 2012 or holiday 2012.
Called it!
Well, I did see E3 2012 as one of the BIG places they’re going to discuss the Wii U. After all, By E3 2012, most, if not all first party 3DS games would have come out by then. The Wii will have also been “dried up” except Mario Party 9.
With the lack of games to talk about, this makes E3 2012 look like the “big one”.
I’m excited.
PS: I got a 3DS for sale; I’m not into Nintendo’s handhelds anymore. Email me at shane.0.gibbs@gmail.com if anyone is interested.
I say summer 2012, with pre-orders possibly starting the weekend after E3, with a weekend after that weekend release.
hi guys this is just to tell explain how powerful the Wii U is if you didnt new already.
We know the Wii U uses a GPU that similar to the R770 which means the RadeonHD 4000 family. From this chart, the low end 4670 gets 27fps while the higher end 4890(which is referenced in this article) gets 71 fps. Can we just pretend that the Wii U gpu will lie somewhere in between there?
Now, the Xbox 360 uses a gpu similar to the Radeon X1900. According to this chart, two X1900 XTs running in Crossfire mode only gets 17 fps!
The PS3′s RSX gpu is similar to a Geforce 7800 which isn’t even on this chart since it’s so old. Let’s pretend the PS3 uses the Geforce 8800 series, which is successor to the 7800(and also much more powerful). The 8800 GTS gets 22.4 fps.
More charts:
Far Cry 2
Radeon 4670: 19.5 fps
Radeon 4890: 50.5 fps
Radeon X1900 XT Crossfire: 17.4 fps
Geforce 8800 GTS: 25.6
3Dmark06 benchmarks
Radeon 4670: 9251
Radeon 4890: 19912
Radeon X1900 XT Crossfire: 9589
Geforce 8800 GTS: 11282
This sorta gives us a small idea of the power of the Wii U gpu relative to the Xbox 360 and PS3. It’s also unfair, since we substituted TWO X1900 for the Xbox gpu, and we substituted a newer gen card for the PS3. We also don’t know if the Wii U gpu will be closer to the high end 4890 or something much less. But I hope you guys enjoyed my post. I wasted way too much time looking this crap lol…
hey i said that in the gamescom article, cud of ask to copy and paste -_-
oops tht was to sum other repley LOL
“Iwata drop the bob-omb”
Nice.
its gonna be around £400 and the release will probz be at at summer 2012 maybe?
can we pre order the release date?
the Wii U will be £400? the PS3 was £425 at launch, i’m guessing £260.
It would be pretty odd to see the Wii U under 300. My guess is $349.99
I concur, the problem though is that stupidly large controller that’s going to take up a lot of the cost of the machine and yet still doesn’t appear to have the things that are needed for racing games(analog triggers) or clicky thumb sticks that are needed so you don’t have to take your thumb of the sticks during critical moments to sprint and so on in FPS games.
If Nintendo are smart they will reduce the size and resolution of the screen to make it an affordable concept to add them things and it will also make it more feasible for the WiiU to stream to more than one controller and that is one of the best reasons to have a screen in the controller to start with.
Split screen can be annoying for to reasons 1 other players can see all the same info that you can, a controller screen lets your HUD be on the controller and that brings us to reason 2. Screen space that is very precious on split screen games.

Noo.. don’t die.. you’ll go into limbo.
Showing a trailer for a specific first party game or two on the Wii U would be a nice use of the Fall Briefing.
I’m gonna say around $300-$350 for the price. As for the release date, I can see anytime after E3 2012 being suitable.
iwata did say that the price will be quite expensive £260 is defo waaay to low i mean firstly nintendo prices quite high…and i 720p touchscreen controller, slightly more powerfull than ps3.. its defo guna be £400
I have a theory that I have been kicking around. Sony announced that the PS Vita will work in conjunction with the PS3 in the same manner or similar manner to the Wii U controller. Right after that they announced that the Vita won;t be coming out until early 2012.
Is it ‘possible’ that Sony might know something we don’t about the release date of the Wii U. They could be looking to go head-to-head with the launch of the Wii U by launching PS Vita simultaneously to in effect sort-of ‘relaunch’ the PS3 with new life of the connectivity of the Vita perhaps with a price drop?
It’s a wild stab in the dark, but it’s something that just clicked in my head once Sony made their announcements. Remember, Nintendo did that the Wii U could come anywhere between April 2012 and December 2012.
I know some people out there are thinking, ‘what difference does it make? The Wii U will be cheaper than the PS3/Vita combo anyway.’ I understand and agree, but the sheeple out there will think the PS3/Vita combo is better just because Sony tells them so.
want the same thing the competition has but more difficult to program for and less comfortable controllers at a higher price? come to sony!
LOL!
This was obvious(at least to me it was). Don’t expect them to reveal the price and date until E3 2012. They only showed the Wii U this E3 because fans needed something to lift their spirits from the game drought, investors needed something to reassure themselves, to show off the new controller and to give the spotlight to the third party developers. Hopefully they will also come out with a classic controller for Wii U that has 2 analog triggers and maybe a gyro and accelerometer that doesn’t need to be attached to a wiimote or any other controller.
I think the Vita just wasn’t ready in time to be honest. It will probably come out way before the Wiiu. If the Vita/PS3 combo does well than it might make more game developers take chances and do the same on the Wiiu instead of just making the usual kinds of games we see. These two systems could be very beneficial to each other when it comes to third party releases. I think Sony and Nintendo are both going to have kick ass launch titles for these systems after experiencing the problems with the PS3 and the 3DS.
Actually just reading over your comments and what you wrote makes complete sense. I must have ADD!
I agree that competition is always good for the consumer as long as it is done in a respectful way.
What did you do to the website?
Yes, this is what i want, but Mr.Tretton needs to quit bad mouthing the competition.
Tretton acts like a troll. I take everything he says with a grain of salt. Badmouthing your opponent n the end always winds up hurting the person doing the badmouthing.
lol its funny that the ps vita is getting delayed so they can add the functionality to it to make it almost replicate what the wii u can do. why do they have to copy every single idea that nintendo come up with?
man i was playing arkham asylum today trying to get all of the riddler challenges done and realised it would be a lot better if the map was on the controller like on the wiiu lol.
if Sony is planning to rival the wiiu and its tablet like controller with their ps3 with psvita controller then that plan is gonna fail BAD!
while wiiu is probably gonna be around $300 (as most of you think) that includes the wiiu and the tablet like controller. Sony is gonna be selling ps3 without vita for $300 then ANOTHER $250 extra for a psvita thats gonna be $550!!!!!!!! so they cant possibly compete with nintendo cuz once again nintendos better for cheaper.
okay lemme just say ps vita dosent stand a chance against nintendo. sony is still making portables with ps3 connectivity and thats getting old fast, nintendo is releasing a wii u in 2012 (probs after e3) with 2 screens, advancer
technology, etc. nintendo is probs gonna release wii u for around $350 – 400 ps vita around the same. nintendo moving on to the next generation of technology and i just think
1. Sony and Nintendo both keep making the same features (including apple) NOTHING IS NEW 3DS DOSENT EVEN HAVE ANY NEW FEATURES, APPLE ISNT EVENING ADDING “NEW” TECHNOLOGY SONY IS HANGING ON TO THE OLD GENERATION THEY SHOULD JUST TRY NEW TECHNOLOGY AND STUFF the only thing that is really new is the 3d without glasses (which works great with pilot wings resort). So my point is, they both nees to step up their game.
It will the PS3 2006 all over again if Sony hopes this might work.
I know were all Nintendo fans here but, nobody likes a fanboy
Yeah!!!!! I totaly agree w00t…….uh I mean (nvm you thought I was going to support you didn’t you Fan Boy!) lol
David please make a new blog post I want to learn more about the wii u even if ITS JUST RUMORS PLEASE
but what about the slide pad, the friend list, the streetpass stuff, i know friend lists are normal but the street pass was new..and the slide pad
Well walmart has place holders available for the wiiU and thats true i’ve seen it, they list the price as $349.99 which is what i honestly have expected for a while now.
slide pad, netflix 1st in the ds line, streetpass, spotpass, 3d, nintendo video, game trailers, miis, game suspension, friend lists, eshop, Augmented reality, notification system i’m sure something is missing
Hey I know this is off topic but seeing as their isn’t much news, I thought I could ask a question. Would you guys like to see some sort of achievements system on the Wii U?
Nintendo doesn’t usually price high. They usually price lower than their competitors.
That price is perfect as far as I’m concerned. Of course, people will still find something wrong with it.
Y U write so long?!?!
THE WII U SUCKS!!!!!! FAIL!!!!! AHHHH!! SONY FTW!!!! ITS SO STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!! ok…now that i have your attention may i just say that i think the wii u is AWESOME!!!
Yeah. That price is perfect, and I think it’s the most likely price and one well-justified. And yeah, some people will still complain.
In Iwata I trust.
I would advise waiting at least until the end of the year until selling your 3ds. You are not getting more than $169 for it so you might as well wait
Also, at 2x the price :P (oh, most games won’t use this function either and the battery will die a lot faster)
What sony does is copy nintendo, make it a little better, charge 2x as much, and give it very little support.
Lol, I have a lot of points to make. Perhaps you have something to add?
People will complain about the price of anything, yet they still buy. God people are such hypocrites…
Lol, you almost had me there.
