Wii U is #2 on TIME’s list of top gadgets in 2012

TIME has crowned the Wii U as the second-best gadget of 2012, sharing that:

The Wii U’s key innovation is its GamePad, a game controller with a built-in 6.2” touchscreen. It interacts with your TV in different ways in different games, and has the potential to be a big deal if game developers make good use of it

…and:

Also potentially huge: TVii, which combines streaming video from sources such as Netflix with your cable lineup and TiVo recordings. It’s the first time that the famously game-centric Nintendo has poured its heart and soul into a non-gaming feature.

The number one spot was taken by the iPhone 5, which I find a bit strange. I have an iPhone 5, and it’s great, but it’s also becoming a little too same-old for it to be winning out on these sorts of lists. But either way, this is fairly high praise of the system, so there’s no real need to complain.

    Just by having an iPhone 4s I know that the iPhone 5 is a little too same-old.

    To be honest, Galaxy S3 should’ve taken #1 – or at least been higher than iPhone 5. It’s basically better in major way, especially in the hardware department.

    At least Wii U is getting recognition, though! :)

      I have to admit, I don’t see the Apple hype. I’ve always found every Samsung device I’ve owned to be brilliant and much better. My partner has had the Samsung Galaxy S for 5 years and it’s never messed up or had anything wrong with it.

      The Galaxy S3 SUCKS. And the thing about Android that I’ve been noticing is that they’ve only been getting Shittier as time goes on. They’re focusing too much on 1080p cameras and graphics when they SHOULD be focusing on Processor speed, Internal Memory, ETC. I have now jumped off of the Android Bandwagon because of this. But I still hate the Iphone 5. Pick the 4. Not even the 4S, just the 4 will be adequate.

      What are you talking about? First, better hardware isn’t made by google, but third parties. Second, even the cheap android phones have more power then an iPhone 5. I paid $80 for my HTC resound and it has a 1.5ghz dual core processor, 1gb of ram, a higher resolution then the iPhone 5 and Vita, and it came with a pair of ibeats. Trust me, those specs are just fine. The reason why they aren’t drastically improving right now is because it’s not cost effective. Plus the other smartphone types (Windows, iOS, and blackberry) aren’t really competing powerwise. And have you heard of the tegra III processor?

      Well, saying higher than the Vita isn’t saying much. The Vita’s 960×544, just above 480p.

    Don’t hate on me for saying this, but I think the iphone 5 is overrated; while the Wii U is underrated. Seriously though, it’s great that Wii U is finally getting some recognition . :D

    Frankly I don’t think any phone should be number 1. They can’t really change the way you do things that much can they……well…at least mine don’t. But from some of the bad reviews I read on ports for the wii u this makes me happy. I dont really need the extra things. I do wish it had a dvd player though but I was planning on getting one in spring and this makes me want one more. Hopefully developers put the tech to good use because despite reviews I’m guessing it was bad ports due to a late final dev and not weak specs like many Nintendo haters say.

    Does anyone know if the Gamepad supports 3D like the 3ds i keep reading that such as assassins creed has it. If its true why hasn’t nintendo revealed it?

      It kinda does. AC3 and barman support 3d tv’s. If you have inficolor 3d glasses it’s 3d on both screens.

      Well, the first screen (TV) anyway is supposed to have that for games.
      But Nintendo says they will add that if 3D TV sales go up by 30% as of now.
      And unfornaatuly, NIntendo says there future handheld to succeed the 3ds will focus less on 3d, meaning it will still be there, but the core reason to buy it is less
