Trine 2: Director’s Cut was announced for the Wii U at E3 2012. The game is still described as “wonderful”, based on the core of Trine 2 itself (rather than the Wii U-specific additions), but the GamePad integration involves an awkward use of the touchscreen and the physical buttons, “leaving you fumbling for the buttons with your right hand whilst trying to keep the stylus clamped between your fingers”.

Even so, the Director’s Cut is considered “a slightly better version” of the original game because it includes:

…a whole new expansion with new levels and gameplay elements, as well as plenty of minor improvements to the original content like extra voice samples, subtle changes to the level geometry and smoother animations.

And of course, it’s not like you have to use the GamePad, so the annoying controls are not required. It’s just “not the greatest showcase for what Wii U can do”. You can click here to read their full preview, or check after the break for the debut trailer for the game.

    Great ¬¬

      Are you always so negative?…

    • MadCrain

I’m just pissed at the constant bullying and hte constant negative feedback of every Nintendo fan out there, it seems that the only people who think about buying the Wii U are in this page, Great for Trine being better, but big whoop.

The* and no, I try to be positive but my anger seems to get the best of me.

Well, not every game can be a shining showcase of the gamepad. While one day all genres will probably be able to work well with the screen (light use or not) for now we will have some failed experiments with it. Regardless, that shouldn’t diminish the fact that the game has a lot of extra content.

Why would he need the stylus, i don’t think any game is going to need extremely precise drawing to work. That comment is full of crap.

  • GalazyWaffles

Well obviously a last generation game will only be slightly better on a next generation system, since the game was mean’t only for last gen. Common Sense!

I love stylus, and I hate every tablet, that doesn’t have it, but…

WHY THE FFFF WOULD YOU USE A STYLUS ON A PLATFORMER!?!! You have fingers, no? There will be games, when the stylus is the best option, like the surgeon game or RTS’s, but this is clearly a finger game, what comes to touching the screen.

Its like every piece of media is carefully made to cherry pick even far fetched negative points from the versatile multipurpose controller that isn’t made by MS. I guess there isn’t as much investors money on Nintendo, than on MS and mainstream gaming media.
