Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed 10

After we learned that the GamePad’s microphone cannot be used for voice chat, SEGA has confirmed that Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed doesn’t support voice chat at all (even with a microphone plugged-in). For the moment, this is unfortunately normal, since we’re only sure of three games that support voice chat:

  • Assassin’s Creed 3
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  • Mass Effect 3

Hopefully that trend changes though.

Not trying to be mean or anything but why would this game even have voice chat anyway? Unless I’m overlooking something, it seems pretty pointless.

I wouldn’t exactly want to hear all the rage from competition with voice chatting in a a racing game. This is more of a “fortunate normal.”

I always voice chat if playing against my friends, so this is disappointing.

Fortunately, I do not expect any of my friends to buy a Wii U any time soon, so its not too much of an issue right now.

However its becoming clear that the Wii U is still going to be lagging behind Xbox Live for functionality which is a real shame. I guess Xbox will remain my primary console after all..

Cross gaming chat is a big reason I hate playing on the PS3. Quite often I would chat to my friends while playing offline games and still Xbox 360 is the only console to allow that.

So the big question: do the other versions have chat?

There’s a way to use the Built-In Microphone for Voice Chat, witha simple firmware update.

But it seems like its harder to get the firmware created to do so, because of how long it’s taking, which explains why it’s not done on the pre-install firmware.
