Wii U GamePad White Small

At the moment, there’s no announced games that support the use of two GamePads. You won’t even be able to purchase a second GamePad from retailers. Reggie Fils-Aime has assured people, however, that:

The reason you don’t see games with two GamePads [at this event] is the technical ability to make two GamePads work was delivered to publishers after they started this current round of development.

(This is actually consistent with a rumour we heard a long while ago.)

And:

…you’ll see those two GamePad experiences at a later date; when those games are coming, that’s when we’ll make a separate GamePad available.

Of course, this won’t make the GamePads any less expensive. That might restrict the amount of two-GamePad experiences we see.

  • Ziggy

I think that would work superb with Mario Kart

    • Ichigo Kurosaki

I’m willing to bet Mario Kart will be the first game to use 2 gamepads. I’m gonna bookmark this page and when that day comes I’m gonna come back here and remind people. Lol.

    • BellaKazza

      MarioKart 6 player, same room.
      Awesome!

    • Sonic20012

I don’t know if MK will be the first because they’ll probably have 2 GamePad supports sometime next year, and if you at the recent MK timeline they usually release 3 years apart so no MK for 2013 but probably 2014. :D

  • Locke Cole

The next Zombi U game has to support two gamepads!

    • Funyarinpa

They could call it Zombi 2!

    • Gameboi834

If you rotate the U in the ZombiU logo it’s a E, spelling ZombiE. Little known fact.

    • Zack

…That would be Zombic… it would have to be a W to look like an E sideways.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000945354629 Avery Massenburg

Or you could rotate the iU for a more E like look

    • Marty

but it would be the third zombi game (first one was a dos game).

    • Funyarinpa

      Oh yeah!

      I forgot about that.

      Anyway, Zombi3.

    • BigRedBro

Or Zombi U2, but most people would think its somekind of tour or a game with zombie U2 members..or ….I don’t have anything to do.

Wow! :D You have the most Liked Comment! :D

They’d have to make a fairly clever game that makes good use of both gamepads’ screens

This could give Nintendo time to mass produce more pads, and it gives them a little time to have the cost of the parts needed to make the pads a chance to get less expensive… So maybe Nintendo could sell them at a lower initial price !! Also it gives programmers more time to get used to the system and harness more power out of the system, which would be usefull in a 2 gamepad game !!! It would also be cool if you could video chat with 2 people using both pads… Or vid chat on one, while playing a game using the other, ( especially if you could be playing online with each other at the same time ) !!! I Hope they do things like this going forward !!!

    • Locke Cole

Dude… in not gonna be cheaper. Forget about it

  • BigRedBro

I was hoping for up to 4-6 Wii U GamePads, I don´t see the inovation having one or two dudes using the cool controler while the other 2 or 4 are repeating the Wii experience… I just want Wii U to do good.

    • Kaizar

Well, the Home Console does all the work on streaming the 2 1080p images in 1/60 a second real time, while taking in the Touch Screen commands.

But since it’s a 6.2 inch screen, they can probably reduce it to 720p a controller, to give us 4 GamePads at once.

      SHABLAGOO!

    • BigRedBro

Exactly my friend, I don’t care about graphics(well a little) I care about an awsome gameplay.

    • Kaizar

Both the 3DS & Wii U allow 3rd Party’s 100% freedom, because Nintendo has decided to take the PS1 route with 3rd Party games developers/publishers.

So I can see a possibility with 3rd Party games using 4 GamePads at once……maybe.

      WE THE BEST! FOREVER!

    • Ichigo Kurosaki

Yea I was just bout to say this. I mean yes, the Wii U is powerful, but 6 gamepads is like wow. That’s a lot of streaming. And you said reduce it to 720p a pad? I thought the pas were close enough to 720 than 1080p anyway? I mean that’s what I thought. Could be wrong.

    • Locke Cole

Maybe on the Wii3, that might be happen

    • NintendoR0CK3T

      & you’re the most disliked comment but not really b/c there’s only 2 Comments w/dislikes… :/

  • Kaizar

We already heard Reggie confirmed that the Wii U can use 2 GamePads during E3 2012.

And he also said at E3 2K12, that today we are only showing you games that give you experience with 1 Gamepad controller at a time, but rest assure that they will be plenty of games that will use 2 at the same time.

    WE THE BEST! FOREVER!

  • Hybrilynx

i dont see what the problem is. i mean if you did things like that game cube kirby game that if you have multiple nintendo game cubes, you can have multiplayers on their own screen, i dont see why you wont make a much more simple version of that for wii u games. i wouldnt be surprised if their were games that uses 4 game pads right now.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000945354629 Avery Massenburg

I wonder if 3rd Parties will be allowed to make their own Gamepads (like they did with the Wii-motes)

    • Hybrilynx

probably but its still going to be about $150 so i wouldnt even bother.

Separate gamepads are available in Japan. When I first saw this, I think they were asking $139.99.

  • Ichigo Kurosaki

I can imagine Mario Party 10 with gamepads. Well not really, but the mini games would be cool.

  • Tails the Foxhound

I can’t wait for a “Sonic Heroes 2″ where each gamepad and the TV are one member the three man team. So awesome.

  • Xarreno

*Gasp!* Inspiration! You know how KH has recently been using Nintendo systems for different types of play and experiences, right? What if… they finally have a successful multiplayer for KH3! Since all the keyblade weilders “should” be coming back, there would be groups of three for each team! A screen for everyone!
Or (I doubt it) we could have another TWEWY! Two partners, two dimensions, and maybe the television could serve as a portal to get to each others dimensions. So you would be jumping between 3 Dimensions. That, or make it three partners instead.

  • BellaKazza

2 GamePads plus 4 Wiimotes or Pro Controllers equals 6 player multi-player games, IN THE SAME ROOM.
This is as big as when Nintendo made the N64 four player!
I see a bright future for this console!

  • mc7791

If no additional gamepad controllers are available at launch, what does someone do if the one in their new WiiU happens to be broken even before its used? Not saying that will happen but it could. Yeah I knew it would be able to support 2 gamepads. Hmmm the possibilities could really show Nintendos innovation like never before.(besides what the WIIU can do already)

  • Ice Climbers

This just means that we will see more two-GamePad experiences as we get further into the console’s life. More games that use 2 GamePads will come around when they are cheaper to make.

  • Guest

Wow Mario Party’s gonna be amazing on w/6 players!!! :D

  • NintendoR0CK3T

Wow! Mario Party’s gonna be awesome w/6 players!!! :D

  • Draven

If they could have technically done 4 Gamepads that would have been Awesome!

    Imagine the game-play possibilities??

    Whoa… O_O

  • Phantom-X

I’m sure they are going to make a lot of buzz when it is going to come out, and maybe even associate it with a game and stuff. Kinda like the WIi Motion Plus with Wii Sports Resort
