A game for Wii U is being built with CryEngine 3

Cevat Yerli of Crytek has said that his opinion of the Wii U is “very high”, but for the time being they don’t have a business case that “justifies us making a game for it”. Even so, he shared that:

…there actually is a game in development from a respected developer that we will be announcing.

This game is built with CryEngine 3 (which apparently runs “beautifully” on the system), and Yerli said that he has “seen the game running and it looks great”. What do you think it could be?

      They already said it “wasn’t in the cards.” And Nintendo wouldn’t let them give first details on a Retro project, this besides the fact that Nintendo uses in house engines. Most probable I’ve heard so far…Homefront 2.

      Crytek isn’t making the game. “A respected developer” is making a Wii U game using CryEngine 3. Unlikely as it is, maybe Retro is developing the next Metroid on Crytek’s engine. I almost crapped my pants at the thought of it…

      Probably isn’t Retro. Yerli said the game would be revealed soon, and Retro’s project is a long way off from being revealed.

      I hope it isn’t metroid, not because metroid wouldn’t be cool it’s because metroid is bound to make an appearance at some point and it will be visually stunning with or without cryengine. I’m hoping for a big AAA 3rd party title.

      Crytek doesn’t believe the support and market is there for Timesplitters 4, they actually said it was about as likely to happen as a reboot of some other decades old title (don’t remember which).

    I think it may be Homefront 2. I know it’s technically being made by Crytek, but it’s really Crytek UK. This could be their way of sneaking through a loop whole. I’d rather it be a CryEngine Metroid. Gamer spooge everywhere….

      Also another game like Terranigma would be nice, its time to bring back RPGs (including JRPGs for course) to the forefront like how SNES was, nowadays its too much about Shooters and other quick-fix games.

    since it’s powerful enough for the cryengine 3 and the old ps3/xbox360 were powerful enough for both the cryengine 3 AND the RED engine i’m almost certain that he was talking bullshit

    slightly unrelated question but what engine was Metroid Prime 3 running on??

    That looked really good for a Wii game and the occasional glimpses of Samus’ face looked good.

      Just Wii engine, LOL.

      But after GameCube, all the other systems look like the same graphics mostly……if you play on a Standard Definition TV.

      But HD TV shows the HD games look way more better……but that’s only because of the HD.

      But High-Definition has been around since the 1950′s and has come and go a million times before……so what if HD dies again?

      I mean HD is a passing fad, since the 1950′s.

      The increase polygon count just doesn’t make almost any impact.

      And that’s why both the PS Vita & 3DS look near PS3 graphics…..when they both got specs, right in between the Wii & 360, for both of the handhelds.

    I use CryEngine 3 SDK, and as powerful as the engine is, you can produce some surprising effects with surprising little work or GPU power.

    Check out the beautiful work of a guy named wenda111287 on YouTube using the CryEngine 3 SDK (which is based on the full CryEngine 3), all done on a DirectX 10 graphics card (the same used on Wii U), and you’ll see what I mean.

    I’m thinking if CryEngine 3 runs “beautifully” on Wii U either tells me that the Wii U’s got some decent power on its side or that developers are utilizing the technology well on Wii U–either way excites me.
