David Yarnton of Nintendo has said that:

There’s certain aspects on the control pad that we’ve spoken about, but we haven’t really gone into a lot more detail of it because there’s so much to talk about as it is, I think we would overwhelm people.

…and:

I think that’s part of what I was talking about before, about there’s so many functions that the Wii U has, and it will show and explain to people why we have more features being explained as time goes on, because there’s a lot to take in all at once.

I doubt Nintendo is holding back any megaton features, but it’s nice to know there’s a few surprises waiting for us over the coming weeks and months.

    There better be!

Also, I need help! You know how Nintendo is planning to release games both physically and digitally? Does digitally downloading take up A LOT more space on your 3DS/SD card than a physical copy would?

    • Big E

      Yes.

    • Lene

If the game is released both physically and digitally, in most cases it will be smaller than 2 GB to fit in a cheap 3DS card.

Most games are still under that limit.

    • Mafz

Well of course it will. If you have a physical copy of a game, it won’t use any space on your storage. Unless the game requires installation data, which shouldn’t take up that much storage on your 3DS. It will still take up less storage than a digital copy anyway. Since a digital copy will need to store all data to your storage.

      What does GB mean Lene?
And iI know IP means game, but what does it stand for?

    • Lene

      GB: gigabytes
By the way, both the 3DS internal storage and the SD card sold with the console are 2 GB wide.

      IP: intellectual property
The reason why Miyamoto should give me money, because in real life I actually look like a Pikmin. But sexier.

  • Pete41608

they should do one 30 min Nintendo Direct a week for however many weeks they need to reveal and explain some of these features

    • Lene

But first they have to buy Iwata more bananas ^_^

    • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

I agree, but something like once a month would be nice

    • Pete41608

      Agreed

“There’s certain aspects on the control pad that we’ve spoken about, but we haven’t really gone into a lot more detail of…”

I bet one of the main thing he’s talking about is the NF reader. They have said it’s there but they have yet to talk about what they want to do with it. I know there are many applications for it, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be used. So I want to see what they specifically have in mind.
Perhaps buying digital content at the store (such as points) and not having to enter in the numbers on the back.

  • ZimmerRemmiz

Good to hear, I’m sure they are at least partially talking about NFC, can’t wait to hear more…

  • dubYA

Is it just me, or does it seem like the most interesting tidbits about the Wii U have been revealed before and after Ninty’s E3 conference?

    • Divad

      It’s just you..
No, I totally agree. It felt to me like E3 was to show what 3rd party support they have. Which is okay, but more people see E3 and it’s mostly just nintendo fans that see what’s on their website (and here). Giving somewhat less of an impact.
For instance, I think the Wii U pro controller would have peaked some outsiders interests (due to their shunning of what’s innovative).

  • Pit

Too bad that they didn’t mentioned all of that features at E3 because of the tiny little time they had at the conference. I mean, it was like what? 1 hour?

Wonder what features that they had that will overwhelm us anyway?

  • Lucie

A feature such as interacting with the gamepad’s sensor using a wiimote. Or using the weird NFC feature.

  • CDZ127

Whatever happened to something about the WiiU Game Pad’s touchscreen having the ability to change the feel and texture? The screen turning rough and then smooth sounded cool.

    • Peskiest

I don’t remember anything like that, but it sounds cool. Do you remember where you saw said information?

    • Guy

I remember hearing about that, too. Must have just been a false rumor.

  • 009soulmaster

i like the idea of having a full game digital for ppl who cant get it.but nothing beats the ol’ feeling of getting the box of the game and add it to your library of games.
Also. one thing they never showed off is the cross play between the 3DS n Wii U they said long time go that you could use the 3DS as a controller. hope they still have that feature. but then sont fanboys will say hey youre ripping of Sony’s crossplay.
n ill say so? you ripped off the wiimote n super smash bros.

    • Elctric

Nintendo did it first with the gameboy and N64

    • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.sica3 Christopher Sica

i think your forgrting the supergameboy that let you play all handheld games on your snes

    • Atstyle

Yup and Nintendo even perfected cross play with gamecube and gameboy advance. Zelda four sword adventures and Final fantasy crystal chronicles are perfect example of it.

Even Wii and DS had some cross gameplay for games like guitar heroes:warrior of rocks & Batman: the brave.

Hopefully WiiU alone(and probably with 3DS)will use the same type of gaming experiences as the two above especially the gc/gba interactions which were impressive.

  • MovieQuest

I was even thinking the other day (when Miyamoto was talking about being interested in first person shooters) how it could actually be innovated with the wii-u , multiplayer would no longer require split screen (which often ruins the element of surprise ) in multiplayer (not just shooters , in general) , you could bring each player’s screen into their own gamepad and only show the entire map (with no player markers ) on the big screen. I hope and am sure that might be used later on!

  • S.T.K.

what about the fact that the gamepad has a camera and a stand it could possibly implement the same idea as the eye toy/ kinetic i dunno how to spell it but you know what i mean?

  • ShinyPants!

Hopefully the addition of pressure sensitive ZL and ZR buttons is one of the features.

    • Paul T.

Ummm, well… the Wii U Gamepad has Pressure Sensitive ZL and ZR buttons…

  • Paul T.

My only question is , is the Wii U emulating the Wii through Hardware or Software, and 3D-Capable Gamecube games (Hopefully that one day changes to a YES)?
