Rumor: The Wii U is 50% more powerful than the 360 and PS3?

Ah yes, more rumours about the specifications of the Wii U. This time, an analyst has said that “developers told him the Wii U will have 50 percent more processing power than the Xbox 360 and PS3″. This matches up with what I believe to be true, but of course we’ll have to wait and see.

    If it’s true it’s not surprising… the Wii was only 50% more powerful than the Gamecube. I don’t expect Nintendo to go higher but I would like it to be better than 50%

      It says the Wii U is 50% more powerful than the 360 and the PS3, not the Wii.

      50% doesn’t look impressive but if it could run games at 1080p/60fps/bigger levels you should be.

    I’m not impressed but then again this is just another rumor and probably the closest to the truth.I guess I’ll just have to be happy with 50%

    I don’t know why ppl have an issue with it being 50percent more powerfull, that will be more than sufficient for most games. It will come down to games, my Wii library blows away my 360′s in terms of differences, gameplay, colorfully and artistic graphics, some of those games look better than 360…games that look like real life don’t surprise me, since I know what to expect…all that said, a lot more good games come out more often on the 360, and that will be the big N’s challenge

    My only wish is for the graphics to be at least as good as the ps360 ones, NOT less. I know it’s just a rumor, but did you guys really think graphics on the wii u could be worse than current gen consoles?

      If you actually look at the supposed hardware for the Wii U, you’ll know for a fact that the Wii U’s power is no joke. Assuming Nintendo doesn’t customize their processors downwards, they’ll have one hell of a powerful console near the end of this year.

    That is just Game Informer magazine going over old rumors. There not actually new rumors. They have rumors for the other next gen consoles too.

    this is a good news, even though i was hoping more..
    not because i am a graphic whore, just if ps4 and Xbox 720 or whatever its going to be called is significantly more powerful than Wii U, there will be no 3rd party support and port for this console.. leading to the game drought which occurring right now in Wii.. I know Xenoblade and other operation rainfall games coming to US, oh and also Zelda, but that just like what, 4 worthy games for nearly 1 year?
    i think 50% more powerful than ps3/xbox360 simply not enough for a new generation console, and hopefully this rumor is false and Wii U is powerful enough to go against ps4 and Xbox720..

    well, if it is indeed is not that powerful i hope it will be cheap enough for me to buy it together with ps4..

      You have to see: Sony and Microsoft will have about 1-2 years more to copy things from the WII U and do it better.
      So when they will see the WII U is more powerfull then this generation, they will do their best to do a more powerfull console… So when the WII U would be 200% more powerfull (would be awesome somehow lol) Sony and Microsoft would do a more powerfull console.

    Anyway, games need to be beautiful, not photo-realist.

    And 150% of the capabilities of the current gen is enough to make beautiful games.

    I still think it’s more than that.
    Wii U will be more powerful than the current-generation. It will be noticeable, it won’t be overshadowed by the “Orbis”, or “Durango”.

    That 50% more powerful rumor was from a while back. The pre-alpha Wii U (v1 dev kits?) consoles were the ones that were 50% more powerful than PS3 and Xbox 360.

    well i doubt the next box and ps4 will only be only 50% more powerful so its for sure now wii u will be the weakest …again …i know graphics arent everything especially since its a perfected current gen console…..which is good not great but specs do add (alot) to the expirience ….wait this is nintendo never mind forgot for a second that there amazing at being artistically creative ….and they have hd graphic that is polished from this gen …everything seems ok ,…….long term on the other hand ….maybe not….who knows it depends how harsh the downgrade on wii u will be and if developers are too lazy to do anything with the screen ….id rather have a third party title with no touch controls then not have it at all…..

    I assume it’s an old rumour that fits with the new iteration, though.

    You know what even if the ps4 or Xbox720 are more powerful than the WiiU,its still gonna succeed just by the fact that it will play both Wii games and used games,in fact,just by playing used games it will be better

    darn right. the chip they are using is godly, hell IBM pretty much has a B***er for that chip family, in a news post by them on their website.

      Thanks for the link dude! I thoroughly enjoyed reading the article; it was very well written. I’m not much of a tech geek, but it all sounds like they’re putting amazing technology into Nintendo’s little machine that could. It makes me happy to witness the long and successful relationship between Nintendo and IBM.

      ….. ok …. isnt cod just the same game over n over again with just little change from older ones before it? maybe it just me even tho i dont play cod or any others like it but wouldnt a new form of gameplay to that game would make some gamers like it or take notes on it.

    I think this is a old rumour being rehashed. I’m guessing it will be at least 75% more powerful based on what we’ve been hearing.

      it is :) there is literally no news coming out thats big till e3 ,…….i remember last april and most of may ….boring…….nothing…….and more boring ……this is not more to the rumor this is gameinformer using the same rumor already talked about on this blog a month ago ;) its ok e3 will be awesome

      That’s also my guess since Nintendo has been modifying the console to please the developers.

      I would also love a name change. I’m still stuck with the Stream, Infinity, or Super WES Overdrive. :)

    Who cares about how powerful it is? As long as the games are playable, enjoyable and if there are no major glitches or bad controls that would break the game, it’s ok in my books.

    This is a rumor I’ve heard since the WiiU’s unveiling and it is the once I most agree with. Because we’ve already heard many rumors like this.
