Black Ops 2 2

IGN has updated their review for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 with a run-down of Wii U-specific features and other things you should know about this version of the game. Luckily, the GamePad integration is praised, with a specific nod to the use of the touchscreen:

You can change your class without having to bring up the start screen, for instance, or call in Scorestreaks with on-screen buttons (less than ideal in an intense situation, but it is optional), or use the GamePad as your minimap regardless of what controller you’re using.

But in terms of the multiplayer:

…hardly anyone is playing right now. I could easily find games of Team Deathmatch, but finding games in other modes or in League Play is currently nigh impossible.

Feel free to share your experiences in the comments if you’ve picked up a copy of the game. You can also check out a video version of IGN’s review after the break.

  • MrMcpootis

This game is a fun point and click adventure… nothing more…

    • http://twitter.com/AyaneKimura ♡AуaηєღKɪmυяa♡

I don’t even play Call Of Duty and I faced palmed so hard at that comment.

    • Hybrilynx

i never did the single player one in black ops or mw3 my whole life. i had both when they were still new.

    • Tails the Foxhound

Ha ha, if you think about I guess the story mode of some 1st person shooters COULD be looked at as point and click adventures. Professor Layton x Phoenix Wright vs Master Chief x Marcus Phoenix? lol

  • AceOfBlades247

I don’t have a PS3 and my last Xbox had the “Red ring” FUUUUUUUUU… Hopefully after Christmas When I get it, like 100,000 people are on (Compared to Xbox’s 800,000) and I can play Multiplayer and Troll Rages and Modders/Raggers like MinnesotaBurns ( http://www.youtube.com/user/MinnesotaBurns )

    • AceOfBlades247

      Modders/Glitchers*

      Haha, I love Burnsy, too.

  • pwntcake

the online population on day 1 was a bit low but it’s gone up 10x already from what i’ve seen and will continue to rise as more people pick the game & system up. finding a match takes seconds in TDM or free for all as of today.

    • PacoJerte

Good I bought BO2 separately and got it Tuesday but my Wii U barely got shipped yesterday so add one more player in the waiting line haha it should be easy to find online games after the Holidays though

    • LaLaLa

My bro’s copy didn’t even let him connect on day 1 (Xbox version)

    • Needs it…

The game needs an eshop option.

    • cal

Wait until Christmas. When %80 of Wii U consoles will be opened!!

  • Big E

The “negative” can also be said about Ninja Gaiden III. I’m constantly waiting 5-15 minutes just for one other person to play.

    • PacoJerte

Ninja Gaiden has multiplayer? but also the multiplayer should rise because people still might not have goten their Wii U yet that is my case ToysRus took forever to send it.

    • abe

also the wii u is currently only avalibe in america (i think), Uk, AU and EU haven’t launched yet so that will cut the total number down

    • ranulf

just with till after christmas eve

    • ranulf

      *wait*

When more people have the system, it will be fine. It happens with new consoles and games all the time.

  • Hybrilynx

well it makes sense. not only is the wii u, not even 1 week old, people probably still didnt get their game in the mail or bought one yet.

There’s also the fact that treyarch didn’t improve the graphics… It’s an almost-basic port of the PS3 version (which has worse shadowing than the 360 version), just with new GamePad features. I mean, I love the Wii U to death, but the 3rd parties have been hella lazy…
But don’t get me wrong, BO2 is still unbelievably fun on the Wii U.

    • Ruby Doobie

I’ve looked at some side by side footage and for the most part the wii u version looks better.

    • Deadly Scream

I agree, same can be said for AC3!

    • Ruby Doobie

i agree for the most part but at one point in some of the footage i saw conners face had much less detail in a cutscene

    • ShaDow

AC3 has same graphics but runs at 60 FPS on WiiU.

I have the 360 and Wii U versions, and a 37″ 1080p HDTV… I have to admit that the 360 version is visually superior in most aspects… (Though the Wii U has solar flare and lighting effects not found on 360/PS3)

Shadowing on the PS3/Wii U versions are far more pixelated than the 360 version. While the PS3/Wii U versions have more detailed (but pixelated) shadows, the 360′s less detailed shadows are smoothed out to look more natural. But as far as OVERALL graphics go, (textures, polys, animation), the graphics of the 360, PS3, and U versions are all rather even, and it’s very hard to tell the difference between them unless you have a large 1080p HDTV.

    • MadCrain

Not really bad news, means that 3rd party support is guaranteed :P

    • http://www.facebook.com/craigybabyxo Craig Brown

The other versions use a filter to blur the image (akin to Twilight Princess, which uses its filter much better strangely). The Wii U version doesn’t have this and has more solid colours, on top of much better lighting.

    • http://www.facebook.com/JonathanRider Johnny Rider

Actually if you watch comparison videos you can see the Wii U version looks slightly better.

    • Luca

Don’t forget that this is a launch game. The developers had less than a year, so they didn’t do anything major besides porting the code.

    • Shodan

For the most part it looks rather identical, some people have mentioned better textures at range, but even I noticed the crisper visuals, almost like AA was enabled lol

  • Dr zoidburge

you guys might wanna buy it, because it might be the last Cod game we see unless it sells well

  • facetouch

One thing I’m curious about: Can two different people sign in and level up separately in split-screen? Or is player 2 forced to play as a guest?

    • erlendrs93

Player 2 can lvl up, but you will not be able to play as that user on your future own wii u.

  • Deadly Scream

Surprisingly today, I got in on a match of Kill Confirmed but what I really wanna play is Hard Point! I just been playing in some custom matches with bots though!

  • LOL

This game sucks. I’m going to exchange it for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 or Nintendo Land tomorrow…

  • http://www.facebook.com/henrik.puetz Henrik Puetz

Well . The system is only out in America. Its new. There are more important things than Multiplats.I dont see a preoblem there.

  • Tecpedz94

Obviously its low even if they sold a lot of WiiU’s not everyone gets COD give it time it will increase…. The console is new.

  • cancelln

    Amazon and Youtube just arrived…

  • Nintendonerd34

I heard someone say that they have offcially said that the xbox 360 is still more powerful than the wii u is this true??

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sharlo-Galmo/736321849 Sharlo Galmo

Dude that’s bullshit, the wii u is more powerfull cause it got a better gpgpu!
But because all the games we see right now are ports, so you can see a lot of differents. When we gonna see games that are not ports, we gonna see better games then what the ps360 got right now!

    • Nintendonerd34

thanks and i really do believe this too but someone from swapnote said it like each taken apart and then proven

    • http://www.facebook.com/isaac.weseloh Isaac Weseloh

well the 360 is what 6 years old now? (don’t quote me on that) so the hardware is a little bit dated. (in computer standards way outdated)

  • thatguy

There are generally between 500 and 1000 people online at the moment. TDM goes pretty quick, because it is the most popular. My guess is that after the holiday season passes we will have a lot more people to play with.

  • Michael

Is COD multiplayer as fun as Halo multiplayer?

    • SonicBJE

It’s extremely different. You’ll enjoy what you enjoy.

  • ADD ME!!!

    ADD ME!!! : xMARIOx

  • elbrody

I just don’t get it why these people stay stuck in TDM or FF I have been trying to find matches for demolition and others but its like they’re scared to try it or something…..anyway add me I’m “el brody” for we can play onlin…WiiU of course

  • Ichigo Kurosaki

If I can remember correctly about 50,000 people online was the max for COD on the wii. COD4 and MW3. I’m sure most people who had COD on wii then will get a wii u and Black Ops 2 now.

  • Super Nintendo Boy

IGN there always bashing Nintendo I don’t even know why they bother dealing with them
