The launch line-up for the Wii U is going to “be pretty damn good” and “surprise people”

Shane Satterfield, the Editor in Chief at GameTrailers has said that:

One thing that I can say without getting in any trouble is that the launch line-up for the Wii U is going to surprise people. It’s going to be pretty damn good.

And that’d be a welcome change from the fairly lacklustre launch line-up of the 3DS. We can only hope that nothing changes between now and the platform’s release (and that our view of a “pretty damn good” line-up is not too different from Satterfield’s). But for the sake of a wild guess, what would you consider the greatest possible launch title for the platform to be?

Obviously Zelda would be the greatest possible launch title for the platform but it’s unlikely given how recently we got Skyward Sword. A brand new Mario is more likely given it will have been almost three years since Galaxy 2 when the Wii U launches…. and five since a totally brand new 3D console Mario.

……. but I think a new 3D Metroid is much more likely. Surely Retro has been doing more than just DK Country Returns and a Prime compilation since 2007. They’re currently working on a “project everyone wants us to do” so do we need a bigger hint than that?

  I definitely agree here–Retro has teased so much about what they’re working on that I’ll genuinely be kind of disappointed if it’s not another Metroid game (not necessarily prime).
  After all, it is something everybody wants them to do. They’ve said this is their most ambitious project so far. The lead artists have even said that this will be their crowning achievement. Whatever it is, it’s huge, definitely on the Wii U.

The greatest launch title for Nintendo’s new console (from my perspective) is Aliens: Colonial Marines. Although it’s a third party game, the only first party game (from NIntendo) that we know at the moment is Lego City Stories.

A good way to lure people into buying a Wii U would be to develop a game that comes with the console and is made up of several unique experiences to showcase what the system can do. For example, Nintendo could put the Japanese Garden tech demo from E3 2011 on the disc as an experience that showcases the Wii U’s graphical superiority over other consoles; they could develop small mini-games that incorporate use of the Touch Screen (like the one from the E3 2011 trailer where you throw shurikens at bamboo stalks using both the TV and the new controller). Nintendo needs something that will catch the eye of the casual gamer, since most hardcore Nintendo gamers have already decided to buy one. Something you can start up quick and show off to your friends & family (hopefully persuading them to purchase a Wii U).

Gah. I wish the whole world agreed Pikmin 3 would be the best first party launch title. Although I don’t think it’d be the best for the Wii U, it would do wonders for the Pikmin series. Maybe if the whole world thought it best, it’d be great for the system too. ;_; Not to say that it’ll do bad for the Wii U…but it obviously doesn’t have as big a fanbase as Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc.

Here’s to hoping Nintendo takes a chance and launches Pikmin 3!

im hoping that you david or whoever is running the site right now see this. according to the gameinformer website, satoru iwata has said in an investors meeting, the price of the wii u wont be reveled at e3, but focus on the final specs and the software that will be aviable at launch. i think this is big news.

I have constantly been thinking of a MMO on the Wii u. I mean, I don’t really care for mmos but it would be great. And they’ve said it before! Diablo 3 anyone??? They were talking about that coming to consoles anyway. Also DQ:X will be an mmo and on Wii u so why not?
Also, I think Mario should go.on vacation for a bit. His games are awesome, but I’m scared of saturation like guitar hero. People will get tired of it eventually. I think the games are just so easy to produce and easy cash ins that they are phenomenal drought buffs.

I think Retro is doing multiple projects right now…..my guess would be Starfox for Wii-U and maybe Metroid Dread for 3DS.

As for unannounced games that would make Nintendos E3 even better on Wii-U:

GTA 5
Medal of Honor
Black Ops 2
Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed
Epic Mickey 2 (unlikely)
Eternal Darkness 2
The Grinder
F-Zero

Those right there would make this system a core gamers dream come true. Now we wait and see LOL!
