Yosuke Hayashi of Team Ninja, who worked on Metroid: Other M for the Wii, has shared that he would love to continue working with the franchise. Here’s what he said:

Unfortunately Metroid is kind of out of our league as it’s Nintendo’s game, but we’re still in close touch with co-creator Sakamoto-san, so we want to do something with him moving forward definitely. It really depends on what he wants to do with the game first.

I have a feeling a lot of Metroid fans don’t what this to happen though. But I do hope it doesn’t take too long for the franchise to make an appearance on the Wii U. The tablet controller will be a perfect addition.

  • M

i love metroid other m but i can understand stupid prime fanboys saying that real metroid game should be fps like it was from the beginning when it came out on nes

    • nf_zeta

most people that had problems with Other M didn’t play it and/or didn’t like the Story and how they portrayed Samus, i haven’t really heard anyone saying the gameplay was bad.

    • storabajskorven

The gameplay was quite good, apart from some bosses being a little easy, and the idea of making a 2D sidescroller in 3D was brilliant, but the linearity of the game still made it boring. That combined with Samus being an immature little girl story-wise, sort of ruined it, I think. I mean, the idea of your beloved bad-ass super-hero being emotional and reflecting over her life is of course a somewhat fresh idea for a video game, but yeah… you’ve heard these complaints before.

    • Cryo5cythe

I found that the controls were what took some of the fun out of it for me. It was so easy to just spam sensemove and let auto-aim do the rest of the work. Other M just didn’t have that same type of challenge as the other games. The lack of any memorable music hurt the game for me too. When I played the prime series, the music did a great job setting the atmosphere. Just my opinion though.

    • M

yea its so easy especially when u dont obtain any upgrades and die by taking 2 hits.

    • Cryo5cythe

I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but yes even then it was easy when you can just “concentrate to restore you health and get all of your missiles back. Plus there was the fact that when you use sensemove your beam automatically fully charges. I can honestly say that on hard mode the only trouble spots for me were probably Nightmare and maybe the Metroid Queen.

    • M

so you probably didnt like prime if other m wasnt challenging what u could say about prime? its a lot easier than other m…

    • Cryo5cythe

No, I loved the prime series. They are in my top ten favorite games of all time to be exact. On the topic of difficulty, I would still say that Other M was much easier not just because of the sensemove and the concentration, but because there were constant save points.. I’m just wondering, in your opinion, why you think Prime is easier?

    • Balthazzar

Metroid only went FPS at gamecube with the start of the prime seires, Nes, Snes, and Gba games were all sidescrollers!

      Balthazzar Out.

    • Hybrilynx

nes, snes, and gba games, pretty much every game on those systems, metroid or not, were sidescrollers. i dont see your point.

    • Pyroblock

i thought everyone hated it because it had to many cutsences and not enough gameplay in between

    • Critical Tiger

      Did you word that right?

  • Balthazzar

I didn’t like other M, it wasn’t that samus’ attitude was wrong, and it wasn’t the third person gameplay. I, and lots of other people it seems, just couldn’t connect to the game. At times I was asking myself who the character was in the yellow and red suit!! The graphics were amazing, the boss fights were intense. Maybe samus wasn’t alone enough, is the threat of being killed by a psycho somehow warming?!
No, I don’t want team ninja to do another metroid game, infact i don’t even want retro to step up to the plate, I want a new groundbreaking sidescroller like super metroid was and is!!

    Balthazzar Out.

  • wiuwiuwiwuiwuwiuw

i would prefer a sidescroller for the 3ds and fps for the wii u, i think it woulb be awesome because of the gamepad like you could something by pointig it the gamepad

    • wiuwiuwiwuiwuwiuw

      *like you could scan something

  • BasementofNerds

Either way I’d love to play another Metroid game, Other M wasn’t as bad as people say I enjoyed it at least, its not my favorite out of the series (Super Metroid FTW), but by no means is it bad.

    • http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3204673/ GameManiac

I haven’t played it yet, but I still want to.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Roy-Lagendijk/770149065 Roy Lagendijk

I didn’t think other M was that bad.. So I don’t mind either way.

  • alex

NOOOOOOOoooo!!!!!! I don’t want this to happen :(
The next metroid better be a Fps or a 2d and be as good as the prime series.
It’s been 5 years already since the last Metroid game. (not counting other M because that game is stupid. not bad, very stupid).

Why did this guy get Downvoted?

      Fanboys……:

  • josh

Just throwing it out there that metroid could be great a a linked game on 3DS and wiiu. 2d on 3ds and fps on wiiu with interwoven stories and data transfers

  • 9a3eedi

Other M was good. The gameplay was fun, despite it being linear (which isn’t suitable for a Metroid game that is supposed to emphasize exploration). The story was also good, and the graphics were nice too. The issue was the way the story was told (too many cutscenes) and the way Samus was portrayed. that was what killed it, and it wasn’t Team Ninja’s fault.. it was Sakamoto (the head of the Metroid franchise). I worry about Metroid’s future if it continues to be lead by Sakamoto, I hope he realizes the criticism that people had with Other M.

    • anonymous

Wait what? It wasn’t linear at all.

    • mut4nt

an dthe cutscenes were great and just enough to tell that awesome story

    • Exclusive Content

      It was VERY linear

    • Big E

To be fair, all four Prime games (Excluding Pinball) are linear too. Same with Fusion and Zero Mission. I have yet to play Metroid II and Super Metroid.

    • anonymous

How was it linear? You could go explore any sector you have unlocked at any given time.

  • mut4nt

    Hell YEAH :D
They did such a great Job with other M :D
I still love Other M the Movie-all the experiences you had while playing , packed in one big cinema-like film :)
Pls make this happen , Nintendo

    • Exclusive Content

      are you insane?

    • Big E

Yes, I am Insayan. Team Ninja did a great job with Other M. Did it have drawbacks? Of course. Control and linearity were the biggest problems. But in my opinion the story was great (Added a lot to the Galactic Federation conspiracy). So was the atmosphere. And art design, music, and action.

    • Milkman

Music? The game barely had any music at all. I’ll certainly say its version of Ridley’s theme is great, but I can’t say that about the rest of its music as its either bland or there is none.

    • Big E

That’s what makes the music great. It’s not over-the-top like, say, Those Who Bear Their Name. Something subtle, quiet, and gives the feeling of being alone (Minus the monsters of course).

  • http://twitter.com/Revolution5268 Revolution

oh yeah go ahead you are a natural (nose gets bigger).

  • Pyroblock

if i wanted another movie i would say knock themeselfs out but i dont so screw them

  • Critical Tiger

I found the game terrible for 1 reason BRIGHTNESS I would always run past a door or hidden something and spend an hour searching for something easy not sure why it was so dark on my TV no other games have problems.

    • Big E

I think it was just you.

    • Critical Tiger

or my tv -_- i guess

  • RockieOllie

ooh boy… I’d rather Ninja Theory work on it…

    • Tails the Foxhound

And have Samus look like Dante does now? I’d pay money to never have that game made. Don’t ever speak such blasphemies again.

    • RockieOllie

LOL!! Or she could look like Nariko from Heavenly Sword. and from what I heard this new DmC is even more polished than previous DmC so Idk how it can be THAT bad.

That was a good laugh though.

    • Tails the Foxhound

New story is an even worse joke than one of Date’s purposely bad one liners. Dante is now half angel/ half demon, sounds like a bad fanfiction to me (though to be fair, half demon/ half human isn’t exactly groundbreaking). They also got rid of the fucking style meter. What’s the point anymore? May as well play God of War now.

    • RockieOllie

But, half demon and angel sounds like more of an upgrade to me; seeing how the human part gave no real “abilities”. And The style meter still exists (from what I seen at Gamescon), It’s just that you see the letters fill-up instead of a bar meter. It’s still pretty much the same game in terms of combat only thing different is the story and art-style. handles a lot better than Dmc4 I’ll tell you that.

    • Tails the Foxhound

? I’ve seen all the trailers they put out, even the gameplay ones except for the GC one. I guess they put in the Style meter since the last gameplay trailer?

  • Big E

I….have no problem if that was to happen. Just hope they use the analog sticks movement.

  • Hybrilynx

i never had much of a problem with samus becoming a ninja and stuff, but the whole just metroid other m and side scrolling and crap, that was garbage. man its so freaking sad i cant help them make the game. give me one week then i will give you all maps, bosses, cut scenes, stories, power ups, everything. thats probably why i love metroid so much. becuz how i would make metroid is awesome. i sure how they make metroid fusion later in 3d format like metroid prime. i always thought they were going to do that for some reason. probably becuz fusion and prime connected to each other. i hope there will be a glitch that makes samus naked though.

    • BellaKazza

You are so freaking arrogant, you can’t even use proper English and you expect us to believe that you can make a game? I call bull pockey.
My goodness, I can’t even tell you how stupid your comment is.
Please, for the sake of the brain cells you kill every time you post a comment.
      Stop commenting.

    • Hybrilynx

humans arent dumb. if i said my favorite color was bellow, i mean seriously just nevermind. i post good enough english, and thats good enough. its not like im sending a email.

    • Thehollowgamer

He could be from another country you know don’t make fun of some ones English.

    • BellaKazza

If he was saying things that were less then outrageously stupid.
Then I would not comment on his English.
I don’t care what country you are from, stupid is stupid.

    • csaw

I rolled my eyes at this comment. Sorry man but bellakazza is right you’re very arrogant for someone whose never worked on a triple A title before. This isn’t the first time you’ve talked down on developers, and if you think you can do so much better, why don’t you?

    • Hybrilynx

      why dont i what?

  • Exclusive Content

I hated other M’s Storyline. It was just…….Stupid imo
Gameplay was good too, But It was WAY WAY WAYYYY to linear for a Metroid game.
also the story was supposed to be about the relationship Adam and Samus had. Yet I saw no type of friendship between the two of them throughout the entire story!!!

Metroid games has always been about a lone bounty hunter who takes orders from no one,
Epically since she left the Federation -_-
*sigh* Why can’t you guys see that this was a bad “Metroid” game (not a bad game in General)

No open world exploration, no new powerups, Old bosses, Old enemies, no innovation, Very Cheesy storyline…. :

  • BellaKazza

I loved the fact that Metroid the Other M made Samus feel more like a woman rather then some kind of stone cold hunter, it gave us a better understanding of who Samus really was.
I would love to see more inspired Metroid games by Team Ninja, they did a really good job.

  • VioletFox

I loved metroid other m, I knew adam was going to die, but I still cried.
I really want the sidescroller sequel to metroid fusion. I want to know what happens next in the story.

  • Wolf

No. No no no no no no. Let Nintendo handle it. Other M wasn’t bad, it was just unfaithful and mediocre.

  • jdub

Oh god no. Other m story was dreadful, and metroid isn’t an action game

    • Ant

I’d say that before prime one was released, that didn’t think metroid would work a an fps

    • Big E

It wasn’t an FPS. It was a First-Person Adventure game.

  • Tails the Foxhound

I guess I’ll have to say this every time Other M gets brought up:
The bad parts of M:OM, the parts you all hate, are Nintendo’s fault. Story was Yoshio Sakamoto, Wiimote only was also Sakamoto’s choice, pixel hunt segments were Sakamoto, shoehorned first person implementation? You got it, Sakamoto. They pretty much forced Team Ninja to do a lot of this. Actually, the linear level design was more than likely TN’s fault, I haven’t heard any evidence to the contrary at any rate. Then again, Fusion was pretty linear too.

I’d personally love to see Team Ninja do Metroid again, this time with full control of the gameplay. Sakamoto should probably let someone else at Nintendo head up the story though, he’s horrible at telling one.

  • Myst

Sorry, but I really enjoyed Other M. I think Team Ninja did a great job on it. I would love another game made by them

  • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I don’t like Team Ninja. I didn’t like Metroid: Other M much. If they make another Nintendo franchise game, well, this is all I personally have to say:

    http://www.nooooooooooooooo.com

  • Marty

I feel a mother m-ish game would work on the 3ds so I take this as good news.I just hope team ninja get a bigger role than grafical polishing this time around.

  • Symbol de Au

In all honesty the only metroid game I’ve liked is fusion.(and not much.) Other M and prime were…ok…The NES game I might have liked if I played it years ago. It seems not that good for someone just playing it through for the first time recently.(or at least not for me.) The story for other M was basic. Samus was a joke of a “strong woman” but I think the same thing about most characters of that type.

  • person (formerly person)

I loved Other M, it was a great game. While it certainly did stray away from the exploration and isolation that metroid is famous for, but forget the other metroid games for just a moment, and you’ll see it was truly a great game. It wasn’t perfect, and it had some flaws, but I feel the bad rep given by some fans is truly undeserved.

  • person (formerly person)

I loved Other M, it was a great game. Yes, it strayed away from the exploration and isolation that metroid is famous for, but forget the other metroid games for a moment, and you’ll see how great it truly was. Yes, this game did have flaws, I won’t deny that, but I feel the bad rep given to it by some fans is truly undeserved.

    • Tails the Foxhound

To me and a friend of mine, it was mediocre. Not great but not horrible. My friend joked one time, “I wish it was either better or worse, so I could say definitively whether or not I like it.” I personally feel every Metroid fan should personally play it to form a real opinion on it. I also think however, that most people won’t like it.

  • mrjoker

I get what evryone is saying about other m but storywise we have to remeber that was an origin story. It was before she was all bad ass like we know her now. So of course ehe not gonna be alone. Think of other m’s story as the metroid equivalent to the new tomb raider game that’s coming out

    • Milkman

It’s not an origin story. It’s almost at the end of the timeline as it takes place after Super Metroid. The only game that takes place after Other M is Fusion.

  • Relytgninroht

No. I don’t think they should ever touch the Metroid series again. I don’t really hate Other M, but I don’t really like it either- I’m pretty meh about it. I’ve already explained too many times what my issues were, so I don’t think I’m going to do it again- though I guess I could just do a copy and paste job of one of my old comments.

Also, this is kind of oldish news. Read this last week I think?

  • Sills

i’d like to get another metroid game from team ninja, I do not like samus’ personality, but this is my favorite metroid game in term of gameplay.

  • Nintendo Knight

sure retro makes a FPS on wii U and team ninja makes a one for 3ds only NO STORY NO

  • scarecrow

    no
