The Green Lantern cares not if he’s on your TV or GamePad.

As reported by Silconera, what will set the Wii U version of Injustice: Gods Among Us apart from other console versions is the ability to play off-screen using the GamePad. The real question is, can this be used as a selling point? Do you think the ability to play away from the TV can give a game the ability to be a system seller? It’s very nifty, I’ll admit, but I feel Wii U games will have to have more than just the ability to play solely on the GamePad to be superior to other versions of the same game.

Anyway, with the game to be released on April 16th in North America, and on April 19th in Europe, are you ready to make the purchase of Injustice: Gods Among Us?

Lego Batman 2Warner Bros. Interactive announced in a press release today that the nerve-twistingly popular game, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will be released for the Wii U. The game was originally released last Summer on other Nintendo consoles, the Wii, 3DS, and DS, as well as other consoles not developed by Nintendo. This is a portion of the press release from Warner Bros. Interactive:

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will take advantage of the innovative Wii U™ GamePad controller. Players will navigate through Gotham City using an enhanced interactive map and select their favorite DC Comics characters to assemble a powerful team of heroes, all with the use of the controller’s touchscreen. They can even enjoy the entire game experience on the GamePad in off-TV mode, or have a second player join in on the TV, so they can fight crime together without having to share a single screen.

The award-winning LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes gives players the chance to step into the shoes of the Caped Crusader and fully explore a LEGO version of Gotham City. Once again under threat from the Joker, Batman must defend Gotham with the help of powerful friends like Superman and Robin, to put a stop to the diabolical plans of his nemesis and his entire team of super villains including Lex Luthor, The Penguin and Harley Quinn. Encounter all of the Dark Knight’s iconic allies and enemies in a charming, hilarious, family-friendly adventure full of exciting gameplay.

It seems that the game will make use of the GamePad and will not simply be a port of the game made for the Wii U. Although this announcement was made for the PAL version of the game (for Europe), it will no doubt be released for the North American audience as well. Although this game will be release almost a year after the original, I’m hoping it will contain more content or features than the first release of the game.

Watch Dogs 2With the Wii U GamePad, more features have been added to many games, sometimes adding new features and other times just to add portability to a game. However Ubisoft is currently deciding on what to do with the GamePad for Watch Dogs. One thing they do know is that they want Watch Dogs to be a social game, connecting friends and other players in the game. Senior producer Dominic Guay said in an interview with Digital Spy:

So the connectivity between players with mobile devices, the way you can control the city, the immersion, all those are core and on any platforms we’re going to ship on we’re going to make sure we nail those pillars down.

As for the GamePad and its use in the Wii U version of the game, Guay had this to say:

We’re still investigating how we’ll use the tablet on the Wii U, but with the things I mentioned before, for us it’s not going to be a weird stretch. It’s natural. What’s really cool with Watch Dogs, when we start thinking of those devices, it’s not a weird abstraction, it’s not like I’m a space alien and now I’m using a tablet. Why am I doing that? Aiden Pearce is using a device to control the city, so it’s quite easy to imagine what we could do with that.

It’s certainly possible to see how Ubisoft could connect the GamePad with various devices by Aiden Pearce in-game, but it’s equally as possible they could just use the GamePad to make the game pseudo-portable. How would you like to see the GamePad used in the game?

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 1

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate producer Ryozo Tsujimoto recently told Joystiq that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U will not have off-screen gameplay. This means that you will be unable to play the game solely from your GamePad. Tsujimoto says:

We don’t have that feature within Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate – really, the way that we approach making the title for the Wii U was that we wanted to make the Wii U GamePad subscreen a compliment to the main screen. So instead of making the screens replaceable or being able to switch them, we really wanted to make sure that players are utilizing both real estate of the screens, in conjunction with each other.

This makes a lot of sense, as it seems they want to take advantage of the secondary screen for more than just a controller or a portable screen, but did you guys want to play off-screen?

Resident Evil Revelations HD Raid Mode

It has been revealed in the Official Nintendo Magazine that the Wii U version of Resident Evil: Revelations will have some unique features not available on other systems. This doesn’t necessarily mean it will have exclusive content, just some neat Wii U options. These features include  the ability to allow off-screen play as well as Pro Controller support. Furthermore, the screen on the Game Pad can be used to switch weapons and examine the map during gameplay.

In the Official Nintendo Magazine, the producer of Resident Evil: Revelations, Tsukasa Takenaka, said the following about the Wii U exclusive features:

I wouldn’t want to be so presumptuous as to say that everyone will enjoy one version more than another, but there are definitely features in the Nintendo Wii U version that are not found on other consoles.

As I’ve said, these features are only used to enhance the Wii U gameplay and don’t add content that the other versions don’t have, but will that make the game sell nonetheless?

GamePad Dual Support

I think this was actually confirmed a while ago, but in any case, the above image proves that the Wii U will support the use of two, simultaneous GamePads. Nintendo still has to sell GamePads for this to be possible though.

Simultaneous Wii U GamePad

A representative for Nintendo has confirmed that they are “moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and [they] plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone.” There’s no other details for the moment, but at least it’s in the works.

And I suppose this also confirms that the Virtual Console hasn’t disappeared from their to-do list, either.
