Runner 2 8

Gaijin Games has finally released a patch to Runner 2, which was released on the Wii U eShop a couple months ago. Although the game proved popular, several bugs hindered gameplay, and even trying to leave the game. However, in a recent tweet from Bit Trip, it appears the game is now ready for patching:

This just in!! The #Runner2 Wii U patch has gone live! Spread the word!

If you already have Runner 2 on your Wii U, feel free to patch it at your earliest convenience.

Gaijin Games confirmed that BIT.TRIP Runner 2 was coming to the Wii U and, in an interview, Alex Neuse has shared a couple of ideas for how they may use the GamePad in the game. At the moment, they’re:

…thinking about how we can use the controller as an alternate world. For instance, what if CommanderVideo got warped down to the controller and had to do stuff different to what’s going on in the main game. It’s turning into a new canvas to paint on.

He’s also:

…imagining a game in which two players play co-op, with one using the Wii U controller and the other using a standard Wii Remote. What if the person with the Wii U controller could help the other person with the Wii U controller could help the other player out using, say, surveillance cameras, a bit like Theora Jones with Edison Carter [from Max Headroom].

And both of those ideas sound like fantastic uses of the GamePad. They’re only ideas for the time being, but let’s hope they become a reality one of these days.

It’s expected that BIT.TRIP Runner 2 will arrive on the Wii U. It hasn’t been confirmed, but in case there was any doubt that it wasn’t the intention from Gaijin Games, Alex Neuse has said they “have a Wii U devkit”, and:

…while I can’t confirm anything at this time, I am winking at you while I write this and shooting you two thumbs up. We are trying our hardest to get a Wii U version together.

He still is clear that this is a “no promises” sort of deal, but I have a feeling it will be happening.

We’re expecting the Wii U to be released in November, but if we’re lucky it may come out in October. Based on an interview with the folks at Gaijin Games about the next BIT.TRIP game though, it sure sounds like it will be one of these months because, when asked:

With a pushed release date to October or November and the Wii U releasing around then too, does that mean that you’ll try to finagle your way on there?

Alex Neuse of Gaijin Games responded:

(Smiles) I wonder. I wonder if that means that. Let me put it this way: we have a Wii U dev kit, and our game is coming out around the time that system launches, so that would be pretty cool.

It’s coy. That’s for sure. But at the same time, I’d be surprised if the Wii U was released before October anyway, so narrowing the release date down to a couple of months is really not a huge deal.

Mike Roush of Gaijin Games – the makers of the BIT.TRIP series – was asked about what games he was looking forward to and, in response, he said:

I am REALLY looking forward to any Nintendo release on the Wii U. I really hope they launch with a Mario title.

And while I don’t think it’s much of a revelation to believe that Gaijin Games will be working on something for the Wii U, it’s always nice to hear enthusiasm on top of that expectation.
