Castlevania Lords of Shadow

Casltevania: Mirror of Fate on the 3DS is within the Lords of Shadow arc of the Castlevania series, which would make Lords of Shadow 2 a great fit for a Nintendo platform. Unfortunately, Dave Cox of Konami has confirmed that there is “no chance” of the game arriving on the Wii U. And that is surely a shame.

For those wondering why Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is not coming to the Wii U, Dave Cox has explained that “it’s a resource problem”, and:

…if we would employ 300 people, then we would probably like a U Wii. – Vita or PS4 version do (laughs) We have to manage our resources very carefully … a team can in fact be too large.

And it’s still a shame. Castlevania: Mirror of Fate on the 3DS directly ties in with the Lords of Shadow storyline, so it would have made a lot of sense for the game to be on a Nintendo console.

David Cox, the producer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 has provided a slight ray of hope that the game may come to the Wii U. He’s said that, while “there are no plans for a Wii U version”, we should “never say never”, and: “It’d be cool, wouldn’t it?” And yes, it would be cool. Please make it happen.

David Cox of Konami has confirmed that there are “no plans for a Wii U version” of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. So, while he believes the Wii U to be “a great console”, the “team are focused on PS3 and Xbox 360 at the moment”. Considering there’s Mirror of Fate in development for the 3DS, and that game ties directly in with the main Lords of Shadow storyline, this was quite an unfortunate surprise.

The latest issue of Nintendo Power has confirmed there will be a sequel to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on home consoles. For the time being it’s not confirmed for the Wii U, but there was already that rumour (and the rumour about the new Castlevania game for the 3DS was accurate), so I expect we’ll have confirmation when E3 rolls around. And if we don’t, my wrong-ness will be drowned out amongst all the announcements. Yay.

As reported over the past couple of days, Castlevania: Mirror of Fate is coming to the 3DS. Or at least, it’s pretty much guaranteed based on various sources and evidence. According to Paul Gale though – who has shared other rumors in the past – the game was originally planned for the 3DS and the Wii U. He says that:

…the idea that Mirror of Fate on Wii U would be the same game as its 3DS brother, treat the U-Control as the 3DS’ bottom screen and your TV as the 3DS’ top screen, be able to play the game across both platforms, use the Wii U’s forward facing camera as a mirror to “capture your reflection and reveal your fate”, and so on.

But that plan was canned, supposedly. There’s still a chance an original Castlevania title will be built for the Wii U, but at the very least, Gale reiterates that Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2 is coming to the platform.

There’s strong evidence to suggest that a new Castlevania game is coming to the 3DS. A few hours after that story broke though, it also seems that a sequel to Lord of Shadows might be in the works, and supposedly it’s coming to the Wii U. At this stage, all we know is that, if it exists, it will be announced at E3 2012.
