Yesterday, SEGA officially announced the cancellation of Aliens: Colonial Marines, however, at the same time, they also said that they are still working on the Wii U, and that this was a necessary step to see that they continue to push out great titles on the Wii U. Quoting a SEGA representative, again:

We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version. Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date.

Despite losing a poorly received game (at least, according to testers), SEGA is still supporting the Wii U and even says that they do indeed, “have some fantastic developments for the Wii U”.

So, the question is, what would you like to see SEGA bring to the Wii U now?

Aliens MemeThis guy might be disappointed.

A SEGA representative recently told Kotaku that Aliens: Colonial Marines is canceled for the Wii U:

We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version. Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date.

Are you happy that this mess has finally been cleared up or are you disappointed to see another Wii U game go the way of the Dodo?

Pikmin 3 2My face when.

We’ve been hearing a lot of news about Aliens: Colonial Marines, and not an ounce of it has been good, in all honesty. From the Wii U version being the worst version to SEGA being forced to put disclaimers on promotional advertisements of the game telling viewers basically, “what you see isn’t what you get.”

Well, GameSpot tried asking SEGA about the game delay, and would you believe the response?

Still no comment on ACM, sorry!

This just isn’t getting any better, some may feel that no news might be good news, but no news is somewhat disheartening. I just hope the finished product is far better than what we hear about.

How are you taking the news, or lack thereof, from SEGA on Aliens: Colonial Marines?

Aliens Colonial Marines 1

The great game which was supposed to be released within the Wii U’s launch window, Aliens: Colonial Marines, is nowhere to be seen, and March is the last official month in the Wii U launch window.

When asked, a SEGA representative and a representative for the developer, Demiurge, didn’t have much to say about the games unreleased status:

SEGA:

We’re still not commenting on [Aliens: Colonial Marines] at this point. Sorry, I don’t have better news.

Demiurge:

I’m sorry to say that we at Demiurge can’t really comment.

Perhaps the game has been delayed, however, there was a rumour a while back in which a supposed tester of the game said that the Wii U version was the worst. If this rumour was true, then perhaps the development team has gone back to make the game better than what it was originally, and that is never a bad thing. Let’s just hope the game isn’t doomed for development Hell.

Aliens Colonial Marines 2

SEGA has confirmed that Aliens: Colonial Marines is coming to the Wii U within the launch window. That means it should be available before the end of March, 2013. And all of a sudden, I feel like watching the first two movies again.

Aliens Colonial Marines 4

Brian Burleson of Gearbox has explained just how much attention the developers put into making a consistent experience between Aliens: Colonial Marines and the Aliens movie. He’s explained that:

At the beginning of the game you come to the Drop Ship Hangar. There, the Xenomorph Queen Bishop ripped in the film ‘Aliens’. In the game you can see still Bishops severed legs lying around, and white blood stains mark the place where he died.

And:

…remember when Rebecca ‘Newt’ Jordon is running around under the floor, while the queen has top pulled up each grid? Our people have sat down and the basis of the film precisely determined which grid in the game must be missing why.

So, yeah, that’s awesome. Is anyone else as excited for this as I am?
