Satoru Iwata has explained that “being first in the next generation race is not important at all”, but:
One of the reasons we believe this is the time for Nintendo to launch the Wii U is it’s going to be important for the world.
And although there is an attractive factor within confidence, I hope Nintendo isn’t leading themselves into a self-righteousness that will only distract from making something fun. It would be a shame to see them so caught-up in bird’s eye conceptual stuff of “what’s important for the world” that they forget to think about the many practical matters they will have to face. Time will tell, of course. Time will tell.
