This is coming from a NeoGAF user:

So far we know for sure that can be simultaneously connected 4 Wii Remote Plus, or at least 2 Wii U controllers (but not learned if they can be linked together, ie 4 Wii Remote Plus and 2 WiiU controllers at the same time).

Please let this be true. Please let this be true.

I like how your righting has some personality Dave, instead of just saying what the news is.

    • David

Good to hear. It is the part I like most about running these sites. :)

    • Peskiest

I was thinking this same thing today when reading the 3DS blog; you can always tell who wrote the article because David puts how he feels while Franco just gives the facts and no opinions etc. Not that there’s anything wrong with the way Franco writes it’s just… IDK somehow David’s writing is more enjoyable or something like that.

    • Roy Lagendijk

It’s more personal, which makes you feel like he’s talking to you personally and not the internet entirely, or it’s at least more inviting to respond to in the form of comments for example. At least, that’s the feeling I get.

    • JONBAU

Hey David. Mr.Miyamoto Has An IGN Account !! Check It Out Now !!! IGN.COM (USA)

  • Craig E

I hope this is true too… I’d expect that possibly, you would be able to link them all up but I’m hoping at least 4 players (2 with Wii U controller and 2 with Wii MotionPlus – possibly having released a Wii U Remote).

    • Naner

Eh, if it supports two Wii U controllers, I’d be surprised if it didn’t support all six simultaneously. We did see four Wiimotes and one Wii U controller on the same game last E3… It’s not like the Wiimotes require much processing power.

The most interesting part would be thinking of four-against-two multiplayer games. :D

    • Ice Climbers

@Naner Imagine Smash Bros with that many controllers. A 3DS could probably be used as a controller too for that game.

  • kerrington

David you should get a job at ign… if they have down under. ( i dont know how to spell auztraillia.

    • pocketmanu

      NO!
      David’s blogs >>>>>>>>>>>>>> IGN crap

    • David

Not really one to get a job anywhere. :P I like being independent. Plus, I’m not much of a journalist. I just like talking about games, which is a bit different from journalism.

  • Perry

I can imagine metroid prime co-op… Oh baby!

    • Wolf

While that would be epic, I feel it would take away from the feel of metroid. Complete, brooding solitude.

    • Roy Lagendijk

It’s possible to be ”alone” together, I would very much like metroid co-op actually. I’m not sure how it’d work out upgrade-wise though. Also, you could just be alone on a planet, but still in contact with a partner on, say, a twin planet that shares some kind of connection. Like, stuff one does affects the other’s planet. Then again, if one person can’t figure it out.. The other’s stuck. Unless there’s another way to solve the puzzle, or simply skip it for the time being.. But I’m almost designing the game right here, so I’ll stop now. xD

    • Perry

Yeah it would take away the solitude feeling. But it would still be awesome. I wouldn’t complain if it happened.

  • FLUDD

Two simultaneous? That’s like using two controllers at once. o3o

    • Jat

      OMG!!
      You are a genius!
Are you sure you were not the one that discovered America?
      Sincerely, Mr. Sarcasm

    • Belinni

To be fair his/her name is FLUDD.

Did FLUDD ever have any lines that weren’t repeated?

    • Beat

      Love your name FLUDD

    • N. Snake

Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device, huh? I’m familiar with the theory.

    • Roy Lagendijk

Wait a minute.. That might actually be a good idea.. What if you could use two controllers’ touch screen as one player? Instead of two players with their own controller each. Then again.. That forces you to buy another controller.. Oh well. It looked cool in my mind.

  • Csaw

I was hoping for 4 but I guess 2 is better then only one. Here is hoping they show off a few games that use co-op with two controllers.

    • Guy

I know, right? I don’t get why four tablet controllers can’t be used by four players. They must have a reason, but they never said what it is. To me it would make sense if everyone got one.

    • http://www.csfgpapercraft.com Seb

Its obvious, the Wii U controllers take up quite a bit of processing power, and running four simultaniously would cause lag.

  • lizzie1238

How did you even understand what that quote was saying? It was written so poorly!

  • Busted Hope

Why would i want 4 wiimotes and two Wii U controllers simultaneously? my hands are not that big… :(

    • Glenn

      One controller for each player.

    • uhga buga

LMAO Glenn fell for it =D

    • Busted Hope

      xD

  • Big E

I don’t know about you guys, but I have the feeling @David is excited for E3…Just a feeling though, just a feeling.

    • http://www.gamesradar.com GameManiac

Thank god that it’s less than two weeks away.

  • JCS

I dont get the big deal for multiple Wii U controllers. The big games are all single player games (Darksiders, Aliens, Ass. Creed and even Call of Duty ( if it comes to Wii U )). At 1st people complained about only 1 controller, what are these same people going to say when it is announced additional controllers are $120+ each. Multiple controllers just screams out Party Games !!!, something Wii U should be moving away from

    • Belinni

      Dude, 2 player campaigns.

Dead Rising 3, Saints Row 4, Monster Hunter 5, Resident Evil 6 and more without the need for an internet connection just to play with 1 other person. No more need for split screen on the TV, Imagine playing Skyrim’s story with a friend, going wherever you want without worrying about boundaries.

It’s just theoretical but I’m sure two tablets can change local multiplayer forever.

    • jobro

      If that rumour is true…
Its perfect.I would pay 120 € for the 2nd controller….And r u kiddin me? CoD is a very good multiplayer game.4 together/against each other/whatver would be nice ,too , but 2 controllers are enough to play online with 2 ppl showing XBox friends how graet the wii u is :D

    • Naner

      Portal 2. ‘Nuff said.

In any case, it won’t be $120. … maybe $100…

    • DeJah

Finally someone who understands two players just means less fun in my case besides doesn’t everyone play wirelessly over the internet know, so whats the point having two controllers. When I think two controllers all I see is people asking to play with me who have no idea how to play.

      1 controller = epicness

    • Rick

      @DeJah

aff, then I have a brother and for we played together he has to buy another TV, console, game and connect to internet to play with me? You are the person who doesn’t understood.

    • Rape

      Forever alone detected!!!!!

    • Guy

Yeah really. Are you guys kidding? Playing over the internet is all fine and dandy. But there’s nothing like being in a room with your friends playing the same game. And you can’t punch someone’s arm over the internet.

    • Naner

@DeJah: Well, some of us do have friends and some of us who do have friends do have friends who know how to play games.

Online multiplayer will never be as good as local.

  • Bobby

so normal wii remotes won’t work with the wii u?? I don’t have any wii motion plus lol

    • Big E

      They will.

    • BlueHawk007

At this point I think games should be required to use the motion + attachment or a motion plus controller.

    • bob

I don’t think that most games would benefit from Wii Motion Plus, or there would have been more games that used it.

    • Naner

I guess that most Wii U games that focus on motion controls will require Wii MotionPlus, since it’s now standard with all new Wiimotes (and it’s pretty likely Wii U will come bundled with one).

But I don’t think that many games will focus on it. Only ones I can think of are The Avengers and the next Zelda whenever that comes around.

    • Bobby

yeah kinda sad never upgraded controllers since launch, no games i wanted used it.

    • Pretendo

… well, since every Wii U will have the tab and the wimote with built in motion plus I would imagine all games will use the added precision, even if it is not really needed…

It is just a matter of it been included and not an add-on to the system this time around…

  • Luis

I think it is imperetive that the Wii U is capable of using at least four of their tablets.Local play wont make sense if maximum players is two.

    • Atstyle

local play will make sense especially when you have 2 wiiU controller and 4 wiiremote/plus. Haven’t you watch the E3 coverage last year. metroid mii and chase mii were good examples, and that was with only 1 Upad!

  • tbpb2010

Err sorry for being that “slow guy” but can someone explain the exact controllers’ configuration the post is talking about? Also has a similar setup like this been done before to enable more than 4 players?

I mean what it sounds like is that there may be a potential for 6 controllers at once? 4 sets of Wiimote/Nunchucks + 2 Wii U tablet controllers?

I can’t really see the praticallity for this in multiplayer except 4 player split screen on main tv + 2 screens (1 for each Wii U controller)

    • Big E

I don’t think anyone outside of Nintendo and developers know the specifications and configuration of the controller.

    • Belinni

Jeeze, 6 player Smash Bros. would be one heck of a feature to have, think of all the murder!

I doubt it will happen though.

    • http://n00bpwners.com zxride64

That is what it is probably going for. I can see four people on split screen with two guys using the controller. Two teams that consist of one wii u controller user with two Wii remotes/CCP. The Wii U controllers will act as a maser that set up monsters while the two others will act aas elite and your job is to defeat the enemy team and conquer different points.

  • MadCrain

David Every time you post here I read it with your voice xD

  • RicardoSForever

    THIS MUST HAPPEN!!!
    (sry caps)

  • Beat

So what will happen to multiplayer now? Will it just have to be 2 at max for local play? Or will it be 6 with 2 people having different controls?

What will happen to smash bros???

    • Pac-Man1096

What if the Wii U controller was only to be placed on the table via the charging stand and display the Damage % of each player and players use the Wii Remotes to keep the screen HUD free (and allow for the beatuiful graphics to be by themselves).

    • Naner

You can already play Brawl with each of the four players using a different control scheme. One more option won’t make that much of a difference, since the new controller is functionally the same as a Classic Controller Pro for a game that doesn’t require the touchscreen, speakers, motion sensors, rumble, NFC, …

Or what Pac-Man1096 over there said. That would be really cool.

  • supermajora1

Eh I could honestly care less. I dont plan on buying a new controller. The only multiplayer I do in games are online multiplayer. If I do get a new Wii U controller it will just be used as a back up.

  • Tails the Foxhound

…Didn’t Nintendo confirm months ago that you’d be able to use at least two “U-Views”?

    • uPadWatcher

According to President Iwata-san… yes. There’s a possibility to use 2 uPads on the Wii U.

  • Captain N

Ummmm, this was confirmed last year by Nintendo of Canada in an interview with Examiner :

    http://www.examiner.com/article/nintendo-talks-upcoming-wii-games-friday-launches-wii-u-anniversaries-more

  • sam765

I hope it’s true because if Nintendo don’t, the competition will…

  • The Random Man
  • http://blaaa josh with the truth

don’t want to sound bad but I told everyone 1month ago that this would happen so i told u guys sooooo (sorry coudn’t help myself)

  • http://1227.com/ XDLugia

Hey David, they used 2 tablet controllers at once while displaying Killer Freaks at E3, just thought I’d let you know.

    http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?v=ZP_RBjlQDKM

    Around 6 minutes.

    • Naner

I’m pretty darn sure player 2 is using a Classic Controller.

  • Henry Anderson

I’m going to say yes, during the Tokyo street demo you can see two wiiu controllers working simultaneously attached to the same console.

  • mkdhdh

hmmm 2 will it mean 6 players? if so killer freaks RTS vs FPS will be cool because its a team of 2 who control the freaks like RTS and 4 in FPS who have to battle’m that’dbe cool :p if so i could yell at school PARTY AT MY HOUS BRING YR WIIUCONTROLLER AND WIIMOTES :P

  • Ash Ketchup

I just wanna be a tree but my family are a bunch of douche waffles! Also my brother said I should go to walmart, get a gun, go back home, point at her balls, and shoot her in the head. I don’t wanna do this. I wanna the very best. The best tree. Sigh

SON OF A FEMALE DOG! U CAN GO SUCK FLUTTERSHY DICK! Stupid double post im just so mad sorry guys just so mad…

    • Big E

I’m not Ash! I’m my original character Tom Ato!

    • kelvin

      @big e
me too my original character is ceasar salad

      ahh pokémon references

  • spacemanpurple

They should make a WiiU controller without the screen, so its the same thing basically but smaller and cheaper :3

    • Ice Climbers

Classic Controller Pro. It costs $20. Connects to the bottom of the Wiimote. There you go.

    • Tails the Foxhound

Classic Pro doesn’t have L3 or R3, they still need to make another controller.

    • Big E

We don’t know for sure if the WiiU controller willl have R3 and L3 buttons.

    • Tails the Foxhound

Considering the games coming for it, I think it’s a safe assumption, but you know what they say about those who assume. Point taken.

  • Co-Wink-Key-Dink inc

They should be doing an add on, that allows for 8 PLAYERS :DDDDD 4 Wii U controllers 4 wii remotes

    • JMAN

that would be one crowded gaming room XD

    • Naner

The ones with the Wii U controllers could be in another room.

  • Totoro

This is definitely going to be true, so don’t worry. The real question lies in what games are going to support it. The fact of the matter is that streaming two simultaneous real-time images while keeping a main image on the TV is going to lower the performance. So the thing to worry is that if the games that are going to be made to support this feature are going to be Wii-quality titles, in terms of graphical output, sound, and physics.

    • Truth

Don’t Worry It shall have Unreal engine and Kryteck plus Nintendo tech. Games Wii Run at 1080P with all those controllers, maybe 30 frames per second, were as with fewer it shall probably be 1080 P 60 frames pe second. Who knows the Tablets might actually have a chipset in them that preforms wonders, all Shall be revealed june 5.

  • http://www.youtube.com/flyinglevel Nick Knack

the ideal set up would be 4 Wii U controller 4 Wii remote with or without numbchuck then 2 Wii fit boards because max you could have sunk up to a Wii at one time was 10.

  • Paul T.

I HOPE that’s true, but I REALLY hope 2 (or more) Wii Us can conect somehow and allow upto 4 player U Control gameplay.

    • Paul T.

Also, EVEN more awesome if 4 Wiimotes + 4 U Controls,,,,,if only that awesomeness could happen, obviously powered by two Wii Us!

  • Neoxon

Nintendo already said in the past they were looking into making 2 of the tablet controllers work at once. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were successful (that was one of the biggest complaints about the controller, that & the already-corrected issue of it having circle pads instead of analog sticks).

  • hinkik

Would be cool cause in a pokemon multiplayer game, you wouldn’t know what the opponent is using for a attack.

Yes I’m talking regular multiplayer not online.

  • scotty

    please make it happen nintendo

  • Big Red

I am actually not happy with this, I was thinking of 4 controllers simultaneously, plus aditional wiimate controllers.
If they really want the Wiiu (or whatever they name it) be a real next gen console they should concentrate in both wireless and local multiplayer.s

  • Giga Bowser

Remember guys, Rumors aren’t 70% true most of the time, rumors go too far. But…I do wish this was true.

  • SleepyGuyy

I’d expect it to be true. If an N64 can play 4 player split screen why can’t a WiiU have 4 video feeds (two of which are streamed with touch). And why can’t this be done, keeping 1080p on the TV… with expansive open WORLDS!… AND CO-OP CAMPAIGNS WITH 3000% DRAW DISTANCE!!! AND CUSTOM INTERFACES!, WITH ONLINE & A MIC FOR EACH PLAYER! AND … AND… NO SCREEN PEEKING!!!!!!! *drops dead* (E3 better get here soon).

  • james braselton

hi there yeah hope 2 wii u controlers be true i and 3ds as touch screen controler if thats case you have 2 wii u touch screen controlers and 4 nintendo 3ds thats 6 touch screen controlers and psp vita with ps3 or ps4 soo touch screen controlers may become main stream
