A user on NeoGAF has shared that developers have started to receive the V5 dev kits for the Wii U. These are said to be the mass-produced dev kits, meaning they’re probably be the final ones. The arrival of the kits mean the developers have a month to get their content ready for E3 and supposedly the kits provide “a slight increase in their performances”. Supposedly, “there is at least one additional good news that come with them”, but as to what that good news entails, we’re not sure. E3 should reveal all though, and we’re closing in on it.

yay first one to say anything

    • Ricardo

You’re parents must be so proud.

    • http://chibi-creations.blogspot.com/ chibikage89

And yet mixed match, you say nothing.

    • Cameron

REALLY?! Where? I don’t see anything! Nothing important but a liar!

  • Ricardo

So…..this is it. I hope Nintendo has made good decisions, and listened to the developers on changing the dev kits to make them better.

Nintendo, you better not dissapoint me, because I ONLY plan on having 1 next gen console this time, and that will be the Wii U.

I dont want to buy a 720 just to buy other games because of graphical differences -__________-

    Nintendo, lets do this.

    • D2K

What actual developers said the previous dev kits were a problem? Unnamed sources does not count. Actual developers such as EA, Vigil, Gearbox, and Ubisoft have raved about how Wii U dev kits are actually good and easy to develop for.

Mark Rein from Epic Games has stated that as it was not only was Epic able to do awesome stuff with the Unreal Engine 3 on the Wii U, but also the Unreal Engine 4 is capable of running on the Wii U as well.

There is a mountain of proof out there to show that power and accessibility are two issues the Wii U has no problem with, but people for whatever reason choose to purposefully ignore all that information and keep acting as though Nintendo needs to make a system the personally suits THEM.

To be quite honest with all we know for ACTUAL people and ACTUAL game developers and ACTUAL specs of the system that NINTENDO has released anyone who isn’t already satisfied are never going to be satisfied and Nintendo has 95 million reasons (Wii) why the people whom will never be satisfied are completely irrelevant.

    • Ricardo

Umm, I wasn’t saying that the developers said that the dev kits were bad. In ACTUAL, not unnamed sources, have said that developers have given Nintendo feedback on the dev kits, as well as suggestions to improvements, and that Nintendo has CAREFULLY listened to developer feedback.

Im sorry that you had misunderstood my last post, but this will clear it up. :) Also, If you’ve been on this website long enough, that what I just said has been posted here before on this website, if you remember haha because it was a whiiiile ago.

    • Meelow

      Ricardo

I 100% agree with you, I am so sick of hearing that the Wii is too weak to run these games and if the same situation happens with the Wii U I won’t be able to take that for another 6 years, Nintendo better of made the Wii U have close enough of power to the PS4 and 720 that it gets all the multiplats.

    • Ricardo

Me neither. One thing that I’m also looking foward from Nintendo will be Nintendo Network. I hope that Nintendo wont be greedy like Microsoft, and make you PAY just to play online! That pissed me off the most about Micro.

And I also agree with you, Meelow :p

    • uhga buga

srsly graphical limits is the only reason why i have a 360…… but i think Nintendo knows this and will not let that happen next gen.

i wonder how many sales of 360/ps3 they got because of wii’s graphical limit guess that will never be anwsered though lol

    • D2K

Again I ask. Who has suggested improvements? I gave you my sources. Lets see yours.

If ‘you’ve’ been on this site any length of time you would know that I and many others have posted the facts that having a system with the most power means nothing in a console race because in every case it has lost.

Also, I and many others have posted information in which compares the official specs of the Wii U released by Nintendo themselves versus what current gen hardware is capable of doing at maximum output. Not only is the Wii U more powerful, but it’s graphically capabilities run circles around the PS3 and the 360. Even with the known specs scaled down a notch it still is more powerful than current gen hardware. It doesn’t take much guess work to figure out that the Wii U will be more than capable of competing with the 720 and PS4. So why even question it’s power unless you WANT to believe it is weak or will be too weak, whatever that means.

The Wii U is not going to be cheap so if people are thinking that the 720 and PS4 are going to be SOOO much more powerful than the Wii U than you better start taking out some loans. The Wii U won’t be less the $300. In order for the 720 and PS4 to to be far and away better than the Wii U those systems would have to have hardware which would push the retail value of the systems into the $500 and $600 dollar range.

Sony executives have already stated that they are NOT going to make the PS3 as tech-heavy as they did with the PS3 because they cannot afford to take such a loss again. Sony did not turn a profit on the PS3 until 2010 after releasing the system in 2006.

Microsoft has more money to play with, but they aren’t going to do it either because the have shifted their focus towards the casual crowd and are more concerned with improving and perfecting Kinect 2 for the next console, which is not necessarily a bad idea. If Microsoft is going to put all there chips on the Kinect experience then you’d want to make sure it is running as efficiently as possible.

What we are gonna see in the next generation is what we saw in the generation previous to the current one. In terms of power the least to most powerful you had…

      Sega Dreamcast
      Sony PlayStation 2
XBOX 360/GameCube (people debate to this day which system was more powerful but it is not important to discuss here so I put them equal)

All four systems had different levels of powerful but overall the graphics did not differ that much. You wont see a huge PS1 to PS2 or SNES to N64 level graphics jump in the next gen. At best you will see a PS2 to PS3 level jump in graphics and even that is stretch.

So as pedantic and childish it is to ‘demand’ a multi-billion dollar company to do anything people still do it because it brings them comfort I guess.

It is a fact that the Wii U will be a powerful system. Not because I say so, but because the companies whom actually have the dev kits in their hands say so. When companies like EA, Ubisoft, EPIC, Valve, Vigil, Gearbox, Crytek, Capcom, Namco, and Tecmo all say that the Wii U is powerful and the system is easy to develop for, that’s good enough for me. They don’t have any reason to lie and Nintendo certainly doesn’t have the cash to bribe people to say anything.

The fact that companies like Crytek and Epic whom were outspoken critics of Nintendo in the past have been leading the charge with endorsement for the Wii U for the controller and for the system horsepower should be enough to convince anyone with any measurable sense. Alas, it is not I’m afraid.

You don’t have to ‘hope’ Nintendo has made good decisions. You only need to ‘accept’ the fact that they have thus far made good decisions. That doesn’t mean they still can’t botch it up, but at present there is nothing to substantiate any reason for worry in terms of ‘bad decisions.’

People whined about the Wii nothing having 1080p HD graphics. Wii U fixed that. People whined about the Wii nothing having a decent online system. Wii U fixed that. People whined about the Wii not having enough “hardcore” games. Wii U fixed that. People whined about the Wii not having enough 3rd party developers. Wii U fixed that. People whined about the Wii not having enough raw horsepower, and Wii U fixed that too. I’ll repeat. If what Nintendo has done thus far is good enough for anyone, nothing else will be. Period.

      this^

D2K i 100% and totally agree w you thats a long rant but you explained alot and proved alot :)

    • Craig

Oh D2K, thank you for speaking sense… I couldn’t have put it better myself. People are always going to find faults and think about the narrow-minded stuff.

    • http://www.csfgpapercraft.com Seb

Because some people are, unfortunately, very picky on the bad things :(

    • Ricardo

DK2 – My reply was supposed to make you go: “oh, okay”, but instead I got multiple paragraphs from you.

I agree with most of what you said, but I never bad mouthed Nin. in the first place, and that is what the people above me think. :/ -_- sighhh.

Look, I’m going to get back on topic really quick and really fast.

Believe me, or don’t believe me. That is all. :)

And you say that the Wii U is A lot more powerful that current gen? I do not believe that, even with developers saying that it is. I need to see the specs right in front of my face. While I do believe that wii u will be more powerful than current gen, i do not think it’ll be more powerful than next gen. Does nintendo reveal their own specs, or do we have to have people open their wii u to find out?

    • Captain Falcon

      @Ricardo’s 1st post
Definitely looking forward to both Wii U and PS4 solely because of exclusives.

    • http://wiiublog.com Jared

D2K ur right 100% nintendo has all ways found a way to see in the future there not dumb they know sony and Mic. will come out with new systems after Wii U so there going to make a system that can keep in the race for the 6 years to come, and still be loved and not ditched like wii was.

    • D2K

Yeah, and Nintendo has always stayed true to the 5-6 year window between consoles. So we probably won’t see another Nintendo system until at least 2017.

    • bill

D2K, the Xbox 360 is stronger than the Gamecube.

    • Garland

I agree with D2K. PS3/360 fanboys that expect Sony & Microsoft to use more newer, expensive cutting edge tech for PS4/720 & expect another Xbox to Xbox 360 jump or another PS2 to PS3 jump in power & graphics are going to be disappointed.

Both Sony & Microsoft are going to wind up using off the shelf, lower cost parts to make sure that they’ll turn a profit (or to at least break even) off of each PS4/720 console sold on the first day. They WILL NOT be much more powerful than Wii U at all.

      Too excited?….

      I agree with you Jono.

@Jono, Good analasis. Thanks for pointing it out.

    • Totoro

Jono thank you for inspiring me, thanks to you I have followed my dreams to become a professional cologne sniffer. T-T

  • austen

hopefully nintendo will have a kick ass online system no more friend codes!

    • Totoro

Yes, it’s time to get back in the game. As for the “good thing” they mentioned, my bet is either on multiple controllers, or that they finally got around the wireless connectivity between the dev Wii U and controller.

  • Lemon

Multiple Wii U controllers support I hope!

    • Csaw

      That’s what i’m hoping for

    • http://fffffff josh

it will support 2 wiiu controllers and 4-5 Wii controllers

    • mkdhdh

actualy i am not because it would be awesome to see the possibilitys with only 1 + i wont buy another 80$ controller another wiimote yess those are only 10- 15$ (depending on the store and brand but nintendo’s own are about 15$ because there always on sale where i live) oh and its actualy euros but i cant find the right button :)

    • Captain Falcon

      5 Wii controllers
      wat

    • Csaw

@Josh that was just a rumor. it was never confirmed that more then one tablet controller would be able to be used at a time

  • you cannot print gold and silver

funny iv been playing online with wii for years never ever used a friends code only on the net was that hyped as some abomination, making a thing out of a non issue was a tad FANBOY ps3 and x360 fans to this day actually think you needed to use Friends codes to play online THAT IS MYTH

    • mrgrimrjs

i have never used friend codes either but black ops and monster hunter tri didnt really need them

  • sam765

Nintendo is allways master in console design. I hope they still have it…

  • Captain N

Hoping the good news is they were able to get two tablets running on the console !

    • http://fffffff josh

it will support 2 wiiu controllers and 4-5 Wii controllers and that is the truth

  • http://www.csfgpapercraft.com Seb

I don’t see why they wouldn’t get the final dev kits by now, with E3 so near.

    • D2K

      34. I’m old school.

  • George Tirebiter

A 3rd touch screen…inside the second screen! SCREENCEPTION!

But seriously, I can’t wait to see what Nintendo’s got to show us. ^_^

  • Captain Falcon

Hoping Haptic tech will be on the U controller

    • Naner

      Forget it, man.

  • http://wiiublog.com waka_waka

this is rally off topic but does any one think the wii u should be a diffrent color like red or something differnt?

    • http://wiiublog.com waka_waka

      *really my bad

    • Ricardo

      Black?

    • Trulaw

      Black would be much better.

    • ADam

      GOLDEN!!

    • AM

I think if they are going with the polycarbonate design then there should be a black and white version. I was kinda hoping they got creative with the material used. For example, they could have used aluminum or a titanium mesh.

    • Big E

      Black and white aren’t colors.

  • Steve Jobs

But there is one more thing…

  • Ricardo

    ATTENTION!

Maybe the “good thing” from the V5 Dev Kits is that the Wii U controller will play games in HD, instead of 420p!

    Ever think of that? :D

Because remember that in E3 2011 Wii U representatives CONFIRMED that the controller will play games in standard defenition,(420p) not HD.

Here’s hoping that the controller will come with HD support, because if not, I want up to 4 player Wii U controller support.

I want everyone to enjoy the controller, not just one person -____-

    • Naner

I don’t think the controller’s exact resolution was ever confirmed, but I’d guess it’d be around 480p. Considering the 3DS has a relatively low resolution of 400×240, I wouldn’t expect much more… Besides, 480p for a 6″ screen isn’t really bad. It’s no iPhone (640×960 on a 3.5″? Yeah, you go ask Japanese Santa Claus for that pixel density), but it certainly gets the job done.

  • martyn lewis

Look guys we must all agree that this is the way it is, good powerful console + lots of inhouse AND 3rd party games from the very best developers = a crap load of money and a sucessful system! Nintendo said it aint gonna be cheep but seriously if it kicks xbox n ps3 in the specs department and opens up an online game and app experence for my living room, then u know what, if its $300 i think thats very fair and not expensive, how many people buy an ipad every year for more money than that! Nintendos only worry should be parents who just got there kids a 3ds each are going to resent buying another nintendo machine for awhile

  • martyn lewis

Oh and there has to be a black wii u from day one! Its a mind trick for the ps3 and xbox crew! If it looks like a wii, it will be treated like a wii!

  • http://fffffff josh

for real they made it support 2 Wii u controllers

  • uPadWatcher

D2K… that was by far the best I’ve ever read. I’ve been a Nintendo supporter for almost 2 decades and have its maturity… from NES to the Wii U (name subject to change), GameBoy to Nintendo 3DS.

I’m glad that they’ve listened to us in demanding a higher quality console than their predecessor known as the Wii. By the time they release a brand new console before the holiday season, this will be my 4th console to purchase.

    • uPadWatcher

      …and have SHOWN its maturity…*

  • Some guy

Does Suda have one this time?
