Retro is “too busy” to work on Zelda

A lot of people expected Retro Studios to be working on Zelda for the Wii U, but this is not the case. Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that while the idea of them working on a Zelda title is “not out of the question”:

…they’re too busy for that sort of thing right now. It would probably require me to be involved to a great extent as well, so I would have to get over quite a bit too.

Of course, he “can’t say exactly what it is that they’re very busy [working] on”. And so we continue to play the waiting game. But that said, if it’s not a Zelda title they’re working on, what do you think it is?

    I’m betting it’s Donkey Kong Land Returns (3DS). They may want to keep up the Country/Land style of the Donkey Kong games, so this is not out of the question.

    I think Zelda should be left alone with soley Mr. Miyamoto in charge. Unless he’s going to teach them exactly what gaming is, so they can live on making games almost as well as he has for 30+ years.

      This would be perfect for me, I’ve been dying for some first person adventuring. Just not donkey kong, platforming is so overdone, play rayman instead, they’re both practically the same.

    Shigeru revealed in an interview that he wants to start development on a Nintendo FPS.

    I think it would be awesome if it were a ‘franchise FPS’, which, if I recall correctly, hasn’t been done.

    We can have regular gun-wielders such as Samus, Star Fox characters, Captain Falcon (even though his gun is usually in its holster), have R.O.B shoot his laser style, pit can use some sort of gun (a gun that shoots his arrows?), and even get creative; have Mario’s gun shoot fire ball bullets, Pikachu can shoot lightning bolts, etc.

    And the levels could be the 3D immersive versions, like some of the Super Mario Bros. levels (blocks all around and other little pits and etc), or update a small little area from (insert Nintendo franchise) and have that become a level to run around in.

    And, most importantly, it’s not simply point and shoot. Some tactics like using their features. Mario could use his cape, Bowser could quickly go into a shell, Link could use his shield, etc. Sort of a movie-style of gunfight in a video game.

    Anyone else think that would be a fun FPS? Or at least a more original FPS?

      Meh. I think that the characters simply wouldn’t fit in. I mean, Mario in an FPS? All we need is a 3D Metroid, put online in it, and you got a good game.

      I have been thinking about this idea for a long time now. I think a good idea is to revive Sheriff from the arcades, but make it a TPS/FPS, similar to Ghost Recon but with less focus on tactics. The story is ready made too; save your love interest from bandits. You could spend ages exploring deserts and cities and recruiting new people to your group of cowboys, throw in local and online multiplayer; this could easily be expanded into a 12+ hour game if you ask me.
      Your idea is innovative, but it sounds like it’s trying to hard to be SSB with guns. It sounds like it could be pulled off though.

      I had a idea like that but in my head its a TPS/FPS/RPG where you create your own hero.

      You fight along with Mario,link, Samus, Ike ect. in this sort of army fighting The nintendo villians who teamed up to distroy Mushroom king. Hyrule practicly destroy the nintendo universe to start a new world in there image frome ground up.

      You travel across many of the well known lands of the Nintendo Universe(mushroom Kng. Hyrule ect.) And mabye ones we are not fimilar with.

      Battleing through every land with your choice of fighting type(like a mass effect/skyrim) and your army of people you have meet like on Xenoblade chronicle but bigger and go throgh each level to face of the nintendo Bad guys Like Giga Bowser from SSBB. This would be EPIC!!!! with multiplayer and your friend can play as Link or Olimar or Pit ect. also online matches Like how Kid Icerus was.

    In an interview with Reggie (I think), he said that Retro Studios called in the middle of the press conference and told Nintendo not to show the big game they were working on. That’s why there was so much Nintendo Land.

    Well if you look through the history of Retro then it points nicely towards Metroid Prime which would be amazing, if not then Donkey Kong not quite as good but still great

    Too busy? A Zelda game would sell a crapload more than whatever half-assed game they’re making now. Fucking Retro – you have talented people, put them to work on something people actually CARE about!

      How can the game be half-assed if we don’t even know what they’re working and if they’ve obviously been working on it for a long time? For all we know, they may be working on F-Zero, Star Fox, or even another Metroid.

    It never even occured to me it could even be Zelda. I’ve always hoped it to be a new Star Fox game. The series has been stabbed so badly in the back for so very long, who better than retro studios to resurrect it?
