A few days ago, there was a little less hope that Unreal Engine 4 would arrive on the Wii U. But that “little less hope” was based on my (probable) misinterpretation of a quote (as noted in the previous article). A new rumour has suggested that the engine will be arriving on the platform though, explaining that:

Nintendo tweaked the Wii U to make sure it can run UE4, which would explain the recent bump in specs and apparently Nintendo is still tweaking the hardware.

(That quote was from here.)

It’s all back-and-forth speculation, I know, but I have a good feeling about E3 2012. I think it’s going to be big, and the announcement of Unreal Engine 4 support for the Wii U would be a great addition to that.

  • Elctric

    so what does this mean?

    • zcake

It means were going 2 get the most EPIC looking games on the Wii U!!

    • RicardoSForever

Means that games will look even more awesome, and graphically better, like say, Crysis 2 in the PS3/360.

    • Big E

In other words: More unrealistically realistic looking games on the system.

    • Naner

It’ll have games that make you go “…meh” when you look out the window.

    • zeta

yes all of the other comments plus the fact that it means there is less of a chance that the Wii U like the Wii won’t have a fair chance in terms of 3rd party support since it will support all the necessary engines for most games

  • skingdom

I’m so hyped up for this!

  • ): ecafllorT

So Ninty can still change the specs of their system as they please even when they’re so close to releasing it?

I wonder how much “tweaking” will be done if Microsoft and Sony break out their sucessors at E3 (of course not likely at this point but a possibility)

    • http://images.icanhascheezburger.com/completestore/2009/1/19/128768890982779660.jpg Ryushi

Bro, both Sony and Microsoft have said they’re not talking about their next consoles at this year, and nothing the rest of the year either.
“We can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon,” Microsoft’s David Dennis said in an emailed statement on Friday. “For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360, and it’s the best year ever for Xbox 360.” (End of quote) That’s obviously Microsoft’s statement.
      Source:
      http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2401716,00.asp

      Sony:
“[House] is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3.” (End of quote) I can pretty much guarantee if Sony isn’t saying anything at E3, they won’t say anything this year about a new console except for them saying there won’t be a new Playstation in 2012.

  • Lapskaus

That comment is from March 09. It’s not really news.

    • http://www.sktar.com Keitaro

Agreed. Should just accept the fact that Wii U probably won’t have Unreal Engine. The last news about it on this website nearly confirmed that although the news post tried to twist it into other possibilities. Graphics don’t mean much to me anyway.

    • pocketmanu

      @Keitaro
Wii U will have Unreal engine 3, it was confirmed long ago. And Cryengine 3 as well

  • uPadWatcher

You know the old saying… “Good things come to those who wait.” Although it’s just a speculation, let’s all hope that Nintendo is indeed tweaking the hardware and become the first console to have games powered by Unreal Engine 4.

  • larsberg

the news source doesn’t seems to trustworthy to me.

25 days and we will know.

  • Drew

Unreal Engine needed or we are looking at a slightly better console of this generation still.

    • Drew

      typo

  • Drew

UE4 Needed or we are looking at a slightly better console of this generation……

  • http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=37697839&postcount=4830 Meelow100

There was also another post that said Epic said this when he was asked about UE4 on Wii U

“Watch man, people are going to be blown away by the Wii U news.”

  • http://blaaa josh with the truth

the Wiiu already blows the Xbox and the PS3 in power and graphics out of the water the Wii makes the Xbox look like the crap box and the PS3 the ps-100 and the unreal engine will make it even more powerful so ya even if it doesn’t have it it will still be allot more powerful than this generation

    • http://blaaa josh with the truth

      typo wiiu makes the ps3

    • ZimmerRemmiz

Well the engine doesn’t make the system more powerful, it just showcases the power of the system…

    • D2K

It’s a good thing my hope lies in the facts rather than opinions and misinterpretations of the facts of people jumping to the wrong conclusions. People want to be first to ‘rush’ to the masses with news that hasn’t even been substantiated or even bother to check if it is a valid source.

As I have stated before (ad nauseum) there is ZERO evidence to suggest that the Wii U will not run Unreal Engine 4. There is ZERO reason to suggest that it cannot or will not.

My grandmother used to always say, “some people don’t believe fat meat is greasy.” Some people just cannot process fact. They just can’t, or DON’T. Until E3 comes where Epic executives literally say “UNREAL ENGINE 4 RUNS ON THE WII U” some people won’t believe that it can. Quite frankly, some people STILL may not believe it. :/

    • http://blaaa josh with the truth

what i wrote down is not a lie everything i say is a fact deal with it

    • D2K

Hang on. I’m not attacking you. I’m agreeing with you. I was just saying in general how people act.

    • http://blaaa josh with the truth

I know i was talking about the other peps

    • Csaw

The problem is the wiiu won’t be competing with this generation it will be competing with the next generation. I know that the wiiu is ahead of the ps3 and 360, but will it be able to compete with the ps4 and nextbox.

Epic themselves said that the platforms that are going to be able to run unreal engine 4 haven’t even been announced yet. Last I checked wiiu had been announced which means he was most likely talking about the nextbox or ps4.

    • D2K

      We’ve already answered that question.

  • http://blaaa josh with the truth

sup d2k dang u always say what i mean and better its like u read my mind O_O

  • LaserK

Better watch out how you interpret these rumors from now on David.Cuz we’ll misinterpret it too lol

  • Trulaw

Cool rumour. Here’s hoping Nintendo will gave us a console that can last.

  • Captain Falcon

I find it funny when Nintendo fans get hyped up over power.

    • SHPdigonto

      haha, you have a point

    • zeta

that only apply to the younger generation, Wii was basically the first among the home consoles for Nintendo to be the least powerful.

Also, everyone loves the power even the PC users

  • Luis

I don’t think Nintendo would use 5 year old tech.

    • uPadWatcher

I agree with you, Luis. And D2K have really inspire all of us. There’s hope that one day the speculation would become true. I’m sure Nintendo have listened to Epic Games as well as supporters like us. The Big N’s next generation console will be the first to have games powered by Unreal Engine 4. T minus 24 days and counting…..

      Now you’re playing with power!

    • http://blaaa josh with the truth

upad u stole my catch fraze shame on u

  • Jat

Believe me when i say i am a HUGE Nintendo fan. However, if WiiU doesnt run UE4 then it might be a HUGE failure

    • D2K

Just like the Wii failed without Unreal Engine 3……..tsk…yeah. :/

    • http://blaaa josh with the truth

ok first the wiiu doesn’t need the ue4 to be awesome but it will have kk don’t underestimate Nintendo because they play with power

  • A1424andy

this mean Nintendo is thinking 1or 2 years into the future. when the ps4 and xbox720 comes out. the wii u or wii 2 would be on the same level as the ps4 and xbox720. they are not going to make the same mistake they did with the wii.

    • Naner

Yes. It may even be the weakest of the three, but it won’t be enough to keep multiplatform games from coming out on it. The most important part is getting those games out, even if they look a little bit worse — it’ll be enough to keep long-time Nintendo fans from having to buy a second system.

  • MadCrain

    Hopefully you’re right A142

  • Captain N

Hey this is off topic but you guys are going to like it!!! I found an article from August of 2011, that had Examiner interviewing Nintendo of Canada’s Matt Ryan. In the interview he states that multiple Wii-U tablets can be used if developers choose to do so. Also he goes on to say that the tablets can store information, (a lot more than a Wii remote that holds Mii’s) and this information can be uploaded to other devices !! David, you might want to go through it:

  • Truth

EPIC have no choice but to bring the Engine to the Wii U. Their competition CryteK are already on board. In short the Wii U shall have powerful engines whether EPIC does or does not bring mentioned engine.

    • D2K

      Pretty much….

    • http://blaaa josh with the truth

      yep

  • MM-Royalninja

  • silver is money paper is paper

i have no reason in my life to hope anything about epic ,WHO CARES

  • StarTropics

Lets face it most 3rd parties want Direct X 11 like assets and Nintendo is taking feedback from developers. I swear Crytek is yelling “BOKEH DEPTH OF FIELD, HARDWARE TESSELLATION” and other stuff like that

  • Perry

I could not care less about this. :)

  • silver is money paper is paper

DX11 has notching to do with this and nintendo uses superior OPENGL any hows

why would nintendo be using a MS api and coding to the processors will always BITCH SLAP DX 9/10/11/12

    • KarjamP

MY graphics card supports DX11 and is STILL crappy (compared to that tech demo of the bird flying around).

      JUST saying. :P

    • uPadWatcher

      U mad Silvy?

    • StarTropics

If it clears anything up my comment says 3rd parties want Direct X 11 LIKE assets not 3rd Parties want Direct X 11

  • enoch007

Even if the wii u had Unreal 4 that doesnt mean it will be able to use it to the full potiential. Look at ps3 and xbox they werent even abke to use unreal 3 to its full potiential example samaratian demo

    • http://blaaa josh with the truth
