Nintendo is working with third-party publishers to release their games as digital titles on Wii U

Nintendo is keen to get as many retail titles available as downloadable titles on both the 3DS and the Wii U. In regards to the Wii U specifically, Nintendo is:

…in discussions with the publishers by sharing with them our offer in this area. Through that process, if publishers accept it as reasonable, games in the digital format will be available from the launch time. There are no technical restrictions.

That “no technical restrictions” line makes me happy and, while it should have been that way for a while, it’s good to see Nintendo playing catch-up with such enthusiasm.

    i hope gamecube games will be downloadable. :)

      I thought Gamecube controllers have analog triggers?…

    well there’s one technical restriction

    lack of a (big) harddrive
    so in order to buy titles online one would have to buy a seperate usb harddrive to store them on

    not a huge downside but i thought it should be mentioned

    Wiiu is going to need a hd, it will be an additional cost and will player be able to play games of the hd or wii players have to transfer the game each time to the internal storage like the wii? That would be to much hassle when you want to play a quick game and don’t want to wait for the game to transfer. To many questions and not enought answers.

      str8 from the hard drive as you cannot store a 25gb game on the internal flash memory of the wiiU when it’s only 8gb. so it will be simple
