Nintendo World Store

As expected, the Wii U will be available in New York City from midnight on November 18th at the Nintendo World Store. There’s a few other details to be found after the break, but if you want to get your hands-on a system, just make sure to show up early.

Consumers will have the chance to be among the first in the world to purchase the Wii U console when the clock strikes midnight on Nov. 18 at Nintendo World in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza. Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime will be on hand to count down the launch and sell a new Wii U to the first consumer in line. Fans waiting in line will get premium items (while supplies last) during the event. Note that supplies are limited, and systems will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Nintendo is also selling New York-themed T-shirts with Mario’s image at the event. All proceeds from sales of the shirts will be donated to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

    Is the Tri-force guy there?

He’s been in line for a week or two now from what I’ve heard.

He was there before Sandy hit but had to leave for his own safety, he’s back at the front of the queue now though. Reggie will be selling him his Wii U. Lucky guy.

I thought Nintendo told Gamestop to not have midnight releases because they wanted everyone to get it at the same time…. and now they do it in their main American store? Oh well, I guess in the end I’m not mad at Nintendo, but just mad that I don’t live in NYC :P

From what I heard from my GameStop, it’s illegal for certain states to sell stuff at midnight on Sundays…religious reasons and whatnot. I thought it was pretty interesting, but guess I’ll have to wait until 9 or 10 AM that day to pick up mine.
