Kit Ellis of Nintendo has said that New Super Mario Bros. U will be available “not too long” after the launch of the Wii U. This has confused some people, since most thought it would be available as a day-one launch title. That assumption was fair based on what’s been said in the past, but the only thing that was ever completely confirmed is that the game will be available within the launch window.

  • millsy

If this WAS a launch title, it would really help the Wii U in sales.

  • Gila Monster

…it’s not a launch title? This was the one game I was planning to get with the Wii U at launch. Now I don’t know what I’ll do. Man, I hope Nintendo Land has at least some replay value….

    • shmuga9

      Get Rayman Legends :D

    • Gila Monster

      No.

  • The Video Gamer

That’s ok, we’ve got New Super Mario Bros 2 coming next month so the space will give each one a better chance to shine and me more time to love each one.

  • smug

So only nintendo land and wii u fit are launch titles that are actually developed by nintendo on day 1 launch?? Really?? Come on Nintendo, don’t pull another 3DS..

    • DonnyKD

By “pull another 3DS” you mean have awesome 3rd party games that are ignored for not being Mario or Zelda?

      Ugh.

    • smug

No, I mean good first party games along side amazing looking 3rd party games like Zombi U and Darksiders 2. Nintendo said they wouldn’t make the same mistake twice and give the “limelight” to 3rd party developers AT LAUNCH and they CLEARLY are.

    • DonnyKD

“OMG NSMBU IS ONLY A FEW DAYS AFTER LAUNCH! THIS LAUNCH SUCKS!”

      Quit. Your. Bitchin’.

    • smug

I NEVER said the launch “sucks” so stop trying to put words into my mouth. I’m hardly “bitching” when Nintendo themselves said they botched the 3DS launch by not having enough of their 1st party blockbuster type franchises.. now they are repeating the same process.. that was my whole point and you tried to turn it into look like I’m “bitching” and saying it “sucks” Do me a favor and don’t reply to my posts if you are going to try and start petty little arguments.

    • DonnyKD

“I’m hardly “bitching” when Nintendo themselves said they botched the 3DS launch”

They never said that. Talk about putting words in people’s mouths.

You run out of things to say? Well good, because all you were doing is basically parroting something you don’t understand.

    • smug

I can dig up the article proving they said that about the 3DS launch and post launch. Your debating skills are horrible and your replies as such are very immature. No longer wasting my time on posts or replies from you.

    • storabajskorven

But with the 3DS we had to wait long for good 1st party games. This will be in the “launch window”, i.e. within a couple of months from launch.

    • The Random Man

Who said Wii Fit U was a launch title?

    • Co-Wink-Key dink inc

i’ll idmit that I want to hear more of that little gamer card thing…
I dom’t think that they even showed even a concept screen menu

    • smug

      you are right, it’s TBA..
So it gets even worse.. hahaha

    • Co-Wink-Key dink inc

And you are a racist fanboy troll, The Random Man

    • TheFarmboy

You forgot Pikmin 3. I believe it’s a launch title.

    • smug

Pikmin 3 is “launch window” So it’s NOT a launch title.. another bone head move by Nintendo.. holding back titles that are complete.. really irritating as this is my most wanted game for the Wii U!

    • LaLaLa

Iaunch window means from day 1 to 3 months later. so it MIGHT be

    • smug

Let’s hope it’s out within a month of the WiiU launch… if not I might have to hold out on buying one at launch. I don’t think Wii U is going to be the Wii mania all over again. It’s going to take time to build up the user base but it should do great in the end. In Japan it’s going to be a tsunami.. Wii U will be bigger than the Wii.. Nintendo is basically supplying free TV’s for every Wii U they sell.. a BIG deal there since most families have ONE TV in the whole household!

  • Swankenstein

ITT: People complaining that they can’t play this game on day 1 of an unknown date.

    • DonnyKD

THANK YOU! Finally, someone points out the retardedness of the complaints here.

    • shmuga9

And to be honest, the game will probably be available around Christmas time anyway so they can get a big boost. They’re not stupid, they know they need it out by then XD

  • Nintyfan95

Iwata confirmed that it’s a launch title…Kit is retarted to think other wise.

    • A Link to the Present

I don’t like your language, but your fact is correct. He said it during the press conference.

    • A Link to the Present

Actually, it may have been Reggie who said it.

    • Da Man Live

I remember him saying “Launch window” which is up to 3months after the release.

    • Nintyfan95

Watch Iwata ask if I’m lying

    • Da Man Live

Ain’t saying you’re lying at all lol just that I remember saying that but for now it’s kinda pointless to know exactly when it’ll release since what’s the most important is the fact that it’ll be out before 2013 kicks in.

    • A Link to the Present

I would like to apologize. It WAS Iwata-san who said it, during the press conference on Nintendo of America’s twitter page.

    • LaLaLa

      Maybe he meant for Japan

  • DanDroid

It doesn’t matter if it’s launch or not, to me the first thing I like to do is study the home screen, look at all the (so to speak) Apps, download any other apps (Netflix, Hulu Plus) then try those on for size and Im really glad that the Wii U’s ummmm …… (Eshop?) will be available the first day of launch, and then there are all the other games available at launch. So in really wouldn’t bother me if this wasn’t available at launch, I’ll be too busy trying to figure out how to check the weather and stuff XD oh and adding friends I guess, not really sure about any friend codes news.

    • DanDroid

      Sorry for the essay XD

  • TheFarmboy

So we might get some more polish for it? It’ld do the WiiU well if it’s close to the release date if it’s not going to be directly on launch.

  • Meelow

Iwata said it is a launch title.

And even if it isn’t they’re are third party games out at launch too so buy those.

  • Thefunyarinpa(Hikari)

Good. That means they will probably improve upon it!

  • Ness

As much as it pains to me to say it, New Super Mario Bros. U, as godawful as it’ll be, would really help the Wii U at launch. Nintendo’s really fucking stupid to not release it then. It’s like they want the system to be shitty and fail hard.

    • LaLaLa

It’ll probably come 2 weeks after launch

    • NintendoR0CK3T

Wow… you got the most disliked comment! *not suprised*

  • johnny

hey did they say that the wiiU pro woul work with this?

    • LaLaLa

      I think it will

    • johnny

ok, and does the wiiU pro have a vibrate feature? same with the wii U gamepad, does it have one?

    • storabajskorven

From what I’ve heard, the pro controller will work with any game that doesn’t specifically need the extra screen, since it has the same buttons.

  • LaLaLa

Woo hoo, I’m gonna call my friends to try to beat it in one day!

  • Trulaw

    This better mean that
they have some very good day one first party games that they want to
    release first.

  • NintendoR0CK3T

    I’m guessing about 2 weeks… maybe 3. I was expecting it to be a launch title though… :/

  • A Link to the Present

In case you didn’t see my comment in the replies, I remembered where it had been confirmed for launch at the Wii U. Iwata-san said it during the press conference using NintendoAmerica on Twitter.
“‪#IwataSays‬ The second ‪#WiiU‬ game today is New Super Mario Bros. U. It will be a launch game.”
If someone teaches me how to link to an exact tweet like I’ve seen other people do before, I can do that too.

    • TheUltimateKoopa

The person who said it was “not too long after launch” admitted he made a mistake. It’s still a launch title.

  • ME

Seriously new super mario bros u they can’t come up with womething better Im so sick of the same mario game they need to come up with something new not the same thing over and over and over

  • TheUltimateKoopa

New Super Mario Bros U IS a launch title.
