New Super Mario Bros. U 12

There’s another fourteen-minutes worth of footage from New Super Mario Bros. U after the break.

  • suportedcofe

I really like the boost rush mode.

    • AxGamer

Me too. I was always obsessed with killer speed runs on the Mario games so yes, this looks epic.

  • Mario

super duper archi requete recontra hyper cool

  • “The real” Bill Gates

Aaaaand it’s the same game as the first one -_-

    • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

But I don’t like the music as much as the old

Ba da dum da da DA, da!

    • DonnyKD

Remember when NSMB had 4 player co-op, a SMW world map system, challenge mode, different enemies, Boost Mode, Boost Rush Mode, Miiverse, Layer Cake Desert, Spin Jumping, faster physics, music with guitar instruments, Miis, Ice Flower, Flying Squirrel Mario, and took place somewhere entirely different from the Mushroom Kingdom?

I sure fucking don’t. Now be a good idiot and tell me how all of this “doesn’t affect the gameplay”.

    • http://twitter.com/cristovar1994 cristopher tovar

yeah the wii version had 4 players co-op havent you played that?, oh a world map system from smw, thats different? its the same things, but instead of choosing the world you go to, they are interconnected. that doesnt change anything, layer cake desert? that must change gameplay a lot too huh? faster physics? those are the same as the wii version. ice flower? thats again from nsmb wii. flying squirrel suit? what does that do? oh right, it lets you glide just like the tanooki suit, helicopter suit or the cape suit. not so new. took place somewhere different than the mushroom kingdom? you can’t notice that because its all the same. grassland, desert, ice, etc.
i admit boost rush mode is differente though and also the missions are different and finally they changed the music, miiverse is a cool addition too, but other than that, every single thing here is not enough to make the game that different, but at least it will separate it from the rest of the nsmb games

    • LaLaLa

He meant New Super Mario Bros for the ds :P

  • “The real” Bill Gates

It still looks cool though! I am buying!

  • Dave

Not saying they’re bad but has anyone gotten tired of the New Super Mario Bros games? I loved it on the Wii and DS but it’s on the Wii U and 3DS now. As much as I love new levels, I can’t go on with the art style and music. That’s why Super Mario Bros 3 was popular. It was unique in it’s gameplay and music. I would love it if they make a different Mario Bros game with a good mix of music and levels without getting stale.

I’m still going to buy this one but I hope they make a new idea to work on the Super Mario Bros. games.

    • Ninpalk

I personally think this game is more like super mario world than the NSMB series, you see the Yoshis, 3ups, small thomps, and a lot of returning stuff. I hope they put in suprise power ups like 3D land, not like NSMB2, Fire, Ice, and squirrel does not seem like enough.

    • Auror

If I recall correctly, the small thomps are called thwimps.

    • DonnyKD

“I can’t go on with the art style and music.”

Despite the fact that NSMBU has different music and art style.

      Are you blind, or something?

    • tbpb2010

From what I heard they’re clearing reusing some of the same music note for note (castle theme and some of the grassy areas). Heck I wouldn’t have a problem with it if it wasn’t Nintendo, but seriously they have a team who’s all about innovation and originality yet they’ve made 4 NSMB games that seem way too similar in some areas. Even the original Super Mario Bros games managed to use completely original soundtracks from game to game along with new palettes and innovative game changing gimmicks along with classic items that didn’t seem reduntant. (The whole coin collecting gimmick for NSMB2 would’ve been great had it done something worth while for the player though)
I feel the New Super Mario Bros series just hasn’t had that “inspired” feel the originals had back in the day. If it was NSMB for the DS to the NSMBU for the Wii U then I would’ve seen a clear difference but we’ve have NSMB2 which is a copy and paste of the first one with a few new power ups here and there and NSMBW which was perhaps a step up given the multiplayer but still used the exact same music motifs and same tilesets. I’m not asking for a radical change like SMW to SMW2 (although that would be nice :D) but I would like to see future NSMB games have a bit more of a defining character that seperates them from their predecessors. I will concede that the art dirrection with NSMBU is impressive (although why didn’t they do this starting with NSMBW?)
Maybe I’m just talking nonsense but hey an opinion’s an opinion.

    • DonnyKD

ITP: An idiot who doesn’t know what place holder music is. Yeah, the grassland, main theme, athletic theme, snow theme, and world map themes are all invalidated because one goddamn video has music from another game. Duh.

And before you spout crap about how “People said that about NSMB2!”, 1) The E3 demo had Reznor’s theme be the Koopaling theme, and it was changed to the remix of the original SMW music in the final game and 2) Yeah, that game never shown any original music to being with.

    • Dave

The art style is still quite the same. I meant like a drastic change. Just how @c5c5877b0320b4a2d3c64f273e2d75ad:disqus says: “seriously they have a team who’s all about innovation and originality yet they’ve made 4 NSMB games that seem way too similar in some areas”. I know they made changes but its still too similar. Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 had a variety type of music. The game hasn’t really changed from the previous titles. It’s not that I’m blind but it’s the same thing again. I love the series but I liked it back then when each title had its thing to be remembered by (and I don’t mean just power-ups).

    • Fyrisvellir

Because of course, New Super Mario Bros. desperately needs a change in art style?

    • http://twitter.com/cristovar1994 cristopher tovar

yeah, i am with you here

  • Pyroblock

if i was playing with the person with the gamepad i would punch them in the face

    • Fyrisvellir

You can hear that person laugh and say “I’m terrible at this” at one point. They’re just having a bit of fun. :3

    • Pyroblock

i had my volume off so i didnt hear any of the sound, so i’ll take your word for it

    • Matthew 15

It’s like he’s trying to block them!

  • Trulaw

    Needs less annoying
    music.

    • AxGamer

Who in the right mind would believe Koji Kondos compositions annoying!

    • Trulaw

      Those that can discern
when a music style is annoying

      and have the common
sense to know that even Koji Kondos can have an off day.

    • ScionVyse

Koji Kondo composed the music for this? Cool. He hasn’t been the main composer in a Mario game since Sunshine.

  • Marty

Yay a nsmb based after world (fitting since ’tis the fourth nsmb game). Co-op was so fun on nsmbw, I cant wait.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tyrell.jones.9 Tyrell Jones

Talk about supporting a game. Lol damn Ninten

  • Mathew Sebastian

Gamepad user in the 4 player video is definitely trolling.

    • PAPERMARIO

      YOSHI!!!!

  • IcyParks

Looks like its going to be one of the best in the series. I’m excited.

  • Hybrilynx

the speed levels are kinda slow.

  • dubYA

    Holy… The 3Up Moon returns!

    • Hybrilynx

i dont get excited about things returning. i just ask questions like why did they take it out in the first place?

    • dubYA

Well, I usually don’t get excited about returning elements of past Mario games either. I usually just say, “Huh, so they decided to bring back the Air Ships” or something. However, when I see things from Super Mario World (easily the most unique 2D Mario platformer) making a comeback, I can’t help but grin from ear to ear.

Now, let’s see if they ever bring back these SMW exclusives:

      -The true Spin Jump
      -Turnblocks
      - The Cape Feather
-Koopas that get knocked out of their shells (including the yellow and blue varieties)
      -Chargin’ Chucks
      -Rex
      -Switch Palaces

And probably more that I can’t think of right now.

    • ShadowMetal

Ohhhh, how I would love to see the Cape Feather return…that’s my favorite power-up. :D

    • http://www.facebook.com/chris.parlamas Chris Parlamas

I swear I found a video where someone was playing with the Gamepad and hit X or Y to do a spin jump.

    • http://www.facebook.com/chris.parlamas Chris Parlamas

Wait, never mind. It was one of the triggers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZfrGezct3E still better than behind forced to shake it. I hope you can configure controls though

    • dubYA

That’s not what I meant when I said I’d like to see the return of “the true Spin Jump”. I had no problem shaking the controller to do it in NSMBW. What I did have a problem with was the fact that Spin Jumping on enemies didn’t yeild the same results as SMW where a Spin Jump would cause a standard foe (like a Goomba or Koopa) to explode, and performing one on enemies you couldn’t normally jump on without consequence (Spinies, Spike Beetles etc.) Would allow you to bounce off of them with out harm as if you were riding a Yoshi. It really lent itself to some creative platforming at times in a subtle way.

The NSMB games have innovated the 2D Mario moveset for sure. Bringing elements such as the Triple Jump, Wall Kick and Ground Pound over from the 3D Marios was a good decision, and the new abilities like collecting coins with Koopa Shells are cool too. I just wonder why Ninty decided to drop several of Super Maio World’s best innovations. I mean, really, I should at least be able to look up and toss a Koopa shell vertically. If it worked in ’91, why not today?

Tl;dr version: I want those groovy SMW moves back!

  • Diamond Ammo

I decided to get the ouya, it’s much better imo

    • ABEzilla116

lol okay! Have fun with your android games! If you’re depending on Onlive to be around, don’t. I don’t think it will survive much longer, that and the service was sub par anyways. The only real thing that console is really worth using for is the ability to use emulators.

    • Diamond Ammo

no i am depending on gameloft, ea, whoever made blood and glory, firemonkeys.square enix and lots of others, stop being a f**** fanboy and let me be with my opinion

    • NintendoNerd90

dude, you’re making retarded comments on a Nintendo blog. of course you’re gonna get called out, son. I’m getting an Ouya too, because it’s only 99 dollars, but I’m getting a Wii U for the games you cannot get on any other platform (e.g. NSMBU, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 2, next Zelda, Metroid, F Zero, ect.)

    • Diamond Ammo

kid, these are just video games, go outside and realize that

    • Big E

That’s just what the Ouya will be used for. You’re purposely trying to start some sort of flame war by typing a comment about buying some device, nothing else, on a website that has absolutely NOTHING to do with said device.

    • AxGamer

If I was rich I would forward Diamond Ammo 1 million dollars on paypal if he left this site and never came back.

    • Lucas

Excuse me why r we down voting this man right here he is the practically the only one making sense!

    • Big E

Because they have every right to. “…he is the practically the only one making sense!” Umm…Okay.

    • Lucas

well you guys r arguing over video game consoles theyre just supposed to be about fun not saying hey my console is better than yours and then starting these fights

    • Big E

I wasn’t doing the arguing…And you’re over 9,000% correct. It needs to stop.

    • Lucas

sry i didnt mean you i meant the other people

    • AxGamer

If we all ignore Diamond Ammo he may get bored and find another site to troll on instead.

    • ABEzilla116

You came and mentioned you were instead buying a console that has nothing to do with this one. Shut up and let me be with my opinion!

Gameloft? What, you’d rather play smaller ios versions of games we have now? And EA is no reason to buy a console. They would gladly take your money while simultaneously f***ing you in the @ss

See that? I can do that too. I am no fanboy. I am primarily a PC gamer and I have to say, even then a gaming PC, even a ps3 would be a better console to buy rather than the ouya. The ouya will be depending on services like Onlive to stream AAA games, a service that isn’t too reliable. Onlive’s financial troubles aside, most ISP’s don’t have the necessary speeds to run these games so there will always be lag. Second, indie games. There is little point in getting an ouya for indie games since they are all usually released on PC or Xbox Live arcade. It just seems pointless. With a PC, you have steam where you can play your multiplatforms like COD, Battlefield, etc AND indie games, AND emulators if you so choose to.

For any reason there is to buy an ouya, there is also a reason to do the same thing somewhere else.

    • AxGamer

I think we made our point ABEzilla116. Thank you.

    • Him

Fanboys are hilarious. The only reason why they don’t exist is because they can’t afford their own consoles.
I own a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and an awesome PC rig. I also own a 3DS and a Vita, and I use both PSN+ and Xbox Live Gold.
I’m also getting a Wii U and and Ouya.
And guess what? I love them all.
So, I laugh while fanboys argue. Because I’m relaxing, playing ALL of the best video games for every console out there.

    • Sora

Thank you. Finally, someone who speaks with reason :)

    • Big E

“The only reason why they don’t exist is because they can’t afford their own consoles.” I think you mean to say “…they DO exist…”…Anyway, thanks for taunting everyone with how much money you have.

    • AxGamer

Well your opinion is biased and retarded!

    • Bob.

I decided to get both. So ha.

  • ABEzilla116

Wow. Those people are so annoying. I would be throwing them into the lava if it were me playing.

This was painful to watch. My dog could play these lvls better. These people playin must have never played a mario game n their life. But I’m excited for this game. Will be a day one buy.

  • blackabe111

Why do I get the feeling that collecting coins in this game looks easier than in NSMB2?

  • FlameSuitKirby

i just found out that……that he is a she!
She is playing in the background with a black Wii U
    Gamepad. 0_0,

  • Sora

I paid so much attention to Luigi that I failed to see Mario falling off. xD

  • Pit

Mario and Luigi died before Wendy and that Gamepad girl was talking the whole time. xD

  • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

It looks fun and all, though, I still can’t help wishing Nintendo would eventually make a new Super Mario World game closer to the style of the SNES days, 2D graphics and all, in glorious HD.

  • mightyXtreme

And here I thought the whole game would have it’s own new music, stupid castle/koopa battle theme. -_-
