Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 1

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate producer Ryozo Tsujimoto recently told Joystiq that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U will not have off-screen gameplay. This means that you will be unable to play the game solely from your GamePad. Tsujimoto says:

We don’t have that feature within Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate – really, the way that we approach making the title for the Wii U was that we wanted to make the Wii U GamePad subscreen a compliment to the main screen. So instead of making the screens replaceable or being able to switch them, we really wanted to make sure that players are utilizing both real estate of the screens, in conjunction with each other.

This makes a lot of sense, as it seems they want to take advantage of the secondary screen for more than just a controller or a portable screen, but did you guys want to play off-screen?

  • Krystalthryx

    I kinda… already knew… this… But, no… I didn’t REALLY care to play off-screen, but, it would have been kinda cool… >_>

    • Holonboy

Until Disgaea’s on that console, I’ll stick to the PS3 for now…

  • idk

PS4 announced, bye wiiU I won’t be missed and neither will you

    • Krystalthryx

Sounds like you’re asking for hate.

    • Sephazon

I’d remove the comment for possibly trolling, but the public can handle it for me.

    • Ninpalk

I recommend removing it before a huge flame war starts.

    • Anonymousers

Flame wars are entertaining to read, its silly how people can argue about such minor things.

    • Soir

Meh, it’s still not a good thing for the blog itself.
Better to just quell it than enable people who enjoy it, consequently attracting more of those.

Now Wii U blog have moderator, discussion on the website gone better.
      Hey, that rhymed.

  • Ninpalk

Tommorow I will find out the ULTIMATE question! (See what I did there?)
If you can use the old controls, Wiimote and Nunchuk. It was the biggest thing that made me like Tri as my favorite Monster Hunter game.

    WHAT? BULLSH*T!

  • Sam Malik

off screenplay is just a cherry on top of the cake. not all games have to do they?

    • TRO

Uh, I think it does, as that is like THE BIGGEST SELLING POINT if this console. I have the Wii U and love it but am very disappointed about this.

    • TRO

      “if” = “of”

    • Sam Malik

there is a edit button if you screw up your spelling so that you can fix it

    • SleepyGuyy

      YOU LIE!

  • whereismydemo

ok so… whats up w this it’s Feb. 21 and it’s still not up here on the eshop demos…

  • Bewoulf2000

Now if you ask me, and I may not be reading the article right, but I’d love if they used the second screen for other than switching the TV off. Its nice to have, but an alternate use will be a small step to getting the systems true capabilities to shine.

  • Omarsonic9

    Guess ill not buy this..

  • Alex_Atkin_UK

I can’t help thinking this did this specifically to boost sales of the 3DS version.

  • YayGs

Makes sense since the game is on both Wii U and 3DS, it would ensure that the cross platform experience is the same.

Well I guess I see where they’re coming from but from playing the demo from what I can see when you go on some menus the gamepad just has a message telling you to look at the main screen so unless they’re planning on changing that then the usage of the touchscreen doesn’t warrant not needing both screens.

The main thing I want from this release is improved graphics and HD. I was playing the demo yesterday and it looks exactly like the Wii version, I might as well just play that version instead of paying £50 for the ‘new’ one especially when it’s releasing so close to Lego City Undercover.

    • SleepyGuyy

Unfortunately for you the main thing this game is delivering isnt HD, its the gear, monsters, classes, and quests. Its a chance for fans to reset with ALL monster hunter toys.

  • SMT Xero

i wanted off screen play so i can do 2 players on one console.

  • luke

i wanted the game to be playable on the gamepad

  • SleepyGuyy

This makes NO sense! The game can be played with a classic controler or a Pro controler, So why would they not let you play with the pad and screen? Its the same game as on Wii except with extra content, Of all the wiiu games THIS ONE SHOULD HAVE OFFSCREEN PLAY! WTF CAPCOM?
