Miiverse 1

Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America believes that Miiverse — the Wii U’s response to the rise of social networks — is the systems “killer application”. He also believes that it will “pleasantly surprise people”. For the moment though, I’ll remain cautiously optimistic. Miiverse seems like an interesting layer in the operating system, but I’m not so sure it deserves the “killer application” title. Nothing about it seems to stand-out that much to me. I’m more than willing to be proven wrong though.

“I’m more than willing to be proven wrong though.”

I lol’d so hard at this.

But yeah, I haven’t seen anything all to great about it too.
I no big fan of “social networks” or anything(because I’m not too social anyway), maybe this will be something awesomely amazing.

But, I’m not really expecting TOO much from it.

Seems really cool but like you David I’ll wait and see.

“a” killer app not “the” killer app.

    • DallasDiatorei

      No, he got it right.

“As the network grows and the installed base grows, it will prove to be a true killer application for the system, and I say this loving what we have done with Nintendo TVii and loving all the games.” notice how he says “a”? It’s not my fault he didn’t post the full quote.

trust me, i wont be surprised at all. im only surprised when something sucks like a 3ds.

If you have a 3DS, sell it to me! xD

    • Hybrilynx

i might sell it on ebay. becuz i have $300+ (probably $350+ now) of downloaded titles alone. not including the ambassador games and a bunch of other stuff like the e3 videos last year etc that they dont have anymore. and then the actual 3ds itself.

If you hate it so much, why would you spend $600 on it. I’m just guessing that you buy every system at launch and spend a shitload of money on every piece shovelware that’s released in the first 6 months and then sells the system.

    • Hybrilynx

dsiware when the dsi was the only handheld. so thats years of time. for 3dsware, its already been a year and i get stuff like colors 3d, ketzels corridors, pushmo, dillions rolling western, the denpa men, etc. just what supposed to be good. but is also like $8 each. so that adds up. if i had just 1 $8 game a month, which sounds like nothing, thats just about $100 after 1 year. thats how i have so much stuff on my 3ds.

what worries me is, they don’t really show how it works.
    How do you sign up?
    how do you access anything?
they only showed the start up menu of wii u, I wanna see how the damn OS of it works. How you get around and such.

    • Ice Climbers

So far they’ve only shown the home menu that you see when you turn the system on, but they’ve only shown what we see on the TV. We haven’t seen what we will see on the GamePad when you are on the home menu. Will that part be nearly identical to the 3DS home menu? That’s one thing I want to know. They really need to show off Miiverse and the rest of Nintendo Network more before the Wii U launches.

Nintendo has made it clear that all of the Wii U’s system menus and first-party applications can be navigated by a Pro Controller, as well as the Wii remote and Wii Classic Controller/Pro. A gamepad will enhance the experience in all cases, but is not 100% required to use the Wii U hardware. So while there could be a 3DS-esque home menu on the gamepad, you’ll still be able to use any/all screenless controllers to get to games/apps

The thing I’ve noticed over the years is that I hate a lot of Facebook users. Another thing I noticed is the gaming community isn’t much better, so combining these things into a feature, as cool as it sounds, does concern me. I guess we’ll see what it turns into…

  • DrunkEnShadow

A killer app for a killer console..hmm mAkes sence..

I just hope it’s not like facebook in any way. 90% of my family and friends are on it and have been for 4+ years, and after seeing what kind of crap they’ve gone through on it, I decided to avoid facebook, and despite people constantly asking me to make one for myself, I never will, nor will I want to.

If the Miiverse ends up being like facebook, then I don’t think I’d want to be online with the Wii U as much as I was with the original Wii. (And that’d be sad, because I hated the Wii for the 5 years I I’ve had mine, yet I’m absolutely loving everything I’ve heard/seen about the Wii U so far.)

I have a Facebook account but I almost never use it. I used to like it but then they seriously confused it with their new layout and such. Plus it’s hard to navigate it on my iPhone.

    Oh you don’t say Reggie….NOT!

  • Tails the Foxhound

Stop talking about it and show us! Why do you torture us so Nintnedo! щ(゚Д゚щ)

      I feel your pain ;_;

  • Ichigo Kurosaki

There is probably more to MiiVerse than was shown during the Nintendo Direct and E3. There might be some features or future updates in there that blow us away.

Hey, if that’s the world map for New Super Mario Bros. U, then I’m definitely buying the game. (Super Mario World 2!!)
