Miiverse 1

Miiverse has acted like a social network for the Wii U since it was implemented: anybody could add each other and the method of adding was relatively simple. Now Nintendo has created a barrier to protect younger gamers, specifically those who are under 12 years old. Those under this age limit are barred from adding other users on Miiverse, unless they enter each other’s Nintendo Network IDs in the friend list.

Nintendo has also added other changes including a five-minute posting limit on Miiverse communities, although you will still have the ability to comment on all existing posts. Finally, instead of sending notifications every time somebody comments on a post you have commented on, you’ll only be notified if the original poster comments.

So, do you guys think these changes will help protect the younger community? What would you like to see implemented with Miiverse?

  • Jairo

The only thing I’m down with on this is the part about getting notifications from people posting on a post I’ve posted on… postingly.

  • Ziggy

    Well thats cool I guess..
But I wanna a 3ds on now! I also want the e-shop to be a multitasking app and Miiverse too, but there is a messaging system on the Wii U Miiverse, which will get rid of swapnotes.

    • Ichigo Kurosaki

Yea I like the multi-tasking idea. Also, I can’t wait for them to make the 3ds part of Miiverse. Been waiting on that since it was announced for Wii U.

    • TeenChampionSam

Miiverse will be on the 3DS in march, just a month away :) hopefully the messaging system moves over from WiiU.

    • corleonis88

do you have any source about that? in the last nintendo direct they talked about smartphones but didn´t mention 3ds

    • Samir Malik

      The 3DS uses mobile sites

I don’t think Nintendo is just going to make a mobile webpage and say “Here you go, 3DS users. Miiverse.” It will be an app. And they haven’t announced when that’s coming out yet.

  • Ichigo Kurosaki

This is great. Everything about it is good. Now if only COD developers did this for their games……

    • Pat

Hahaha half of the communuty would be gone overnight.

    • TeenChampionSam

The Sad thing is, they’ve never cared that there are kids like that. More Kids on the server? All the better. Its all about the money, if they took this away, people might even take it back cause that would completely take away replayabililty.

  • Hybrilynx

i knew miiverse was a fail from the start. maybe not a fail, but way way WAY WAAAAYYYYYY over hyped.

    • Anonymousers

We won’t be seeing you on Miiverse anymore ;)

    • Hybrilynx

oh, so your not 12 yet. good to know.

    • Anonymousers

Mmawwww :) Please, at least give a legitimate excuse.

    • Omarsonic9

      You’re*
Even if he’s not 12 yet, his English is better compared to your english.

    • XX Chromosone

Yeeh again a underaged kid away from the social network on nintendo! See u when you’re 13 :-)

      SHABLAGOO!

    • Omarsonic9

uh.. are you Kaizar or his clone or wut.

I don’t think it will do anything. Anyone with any common sense would just create themselves as 18 year olds to get passed these pointless barriers…

    • corleonis88

it´s only so they can wash their hands and say that they are providing a safe environment for younger players, regardless of what they decide to do

I like it that you’ll only be notified if the original poster comments and I also like that you are notified when someone follows you! :) Wii U is the best

    Yay News

  • Guy A. Person

    1. Well, that doesn’t affect me, so…
    2. That seems kind of pointless, but I guess it shouldn’t take 5 minutes to make a 100-character post.
    3. YESH! I’ve gotten sick of getting constant notifications just for ONE comment I left on one of Chuggaaconroy’s posts.

    • Guy

I thought the five minute limit meant you can only post one every five minutes, so people don’t spam.

    • Guy A. Person

Yeah, I sort of figured that out later. That does make a bit more sense than what I was thinking, anyway. Although, I do agree with Ice Climbers, something like this really doesn’t make sense for the TVii community. 6 years ago, I would have expected Nintendo to just keep it the way it is now, but with the way they’re treating the Wii U, I wouldn’t be surprised if they realized that it makes sense to have an exception for the TVii community, and allow unlimited posts.

  • Ice Climbers

Also, they have changed the Code of Conduct so that off-topic posts are no longer allowed. You can blame all those people spamming about Earthbound on the Balloon Fight community for that change.

Also, I think the 5 minute rule should be changed so that you can only post every 5 minutes per community. So if you post something on the NSMBU community, you can still post something on the other communities. But the TVii community should be excluded from the 5 minute rule. I wouldn’t want to wait that long between posts when commenting on a football game.

  • 3DSFlo

Look for me on Miiverse I am 3DSFlo! :):):)

  • Diamond Ammo

now have an option were you can block out any microphone chat from those 12 and under accounts in any online game

  • Ethan

I mean that’s kinda like a (Screw you to 9-12 year olds) If I was that age I would be pissed.

  • Miiverse

    No Miiverse for the wii’s.

  • Hassan

LOL the first time I read it, I read it as “restricted to” and I was like WTF! Imagine, MiiVerse only for kids?

  • Guest

just make a acount saying your 13 if your 10 tadah problem solved

    • Omarsonic9

      Problem Solved?
You’ll be the one who’s gonna go crying to your mother after some 13 year olds swear to you! Stupid 10 year olds of these days..

  • Dcommet

I’m fine with the age limit. I’ve seen plenty of kids randomly using the video chat and sending friend requests, it’s actually quite annoying.
