Mark Rein of Epic Games has shared that, while he would have loved if Nintendo had released the Wii U last year, he would be “shocked” if it didn’t do well, and that in regards to the system, he believes E3 will “be a big eye-opener for people”, and that is something we’ve also heard from Yoshinori Ono of Capcom.

Rein also mentioned he has played Batman: Arkham City on the Wii U and, apparently, the developers “are doing some really cool stuff with the controller”. He also offered praise for the Zelda HD tech demo:

Do you remember the Zelda demo they had on it? Would you not buy a Wii U just to play that? Of course you would. That’s what Nintendo is all about. Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content. That Zelda demo was gorgeous and we can do even more than that with Unreal Engine 3. I think it will do great.

All we can do now is hope this translates into support for the platform from Epic Games themselves, while also hopefully adding weight to the rumours that Unreal Engine 4 is running on the dev kits.

Any Epic games I buy will be on the Wii, 3DS, or Wii U. If Epic’s games are good enough to stand beside Mario Galaxy 2 on the store shelf, then they are worth buying for me.

I love this guy! Now that the GoW trilogy is over, I’m hoping epic makes a game for the Wii U.

I’m hoping for an Unreal Tournament, I’ve always wanted to get into that series.

we can do even more than that with Unreal Engine 3 I wish he had said with Unreal Engine 4 but perhaps he is making us wait.

I don’t think UE4 has been deployed yet so any games Epic could possibly be working on for the Wii U wouldn’t be using that yet. Based off of what they showed at the GDC with the UE3 engine it’s not even necessary right now. Just a nice little carrot for Nintendo to stick in their hat for the future.

‘Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content.’

This is why the wii U will succeed.

it would be cool if nintendo, epic and from software and many many more would all join in creating the ultimate legend of zelda…

there would be so much blood and death in that game lol

on second thought tho, we already have god of war… that does not fit zelda

almost sounds like he took a shot at nintendo. say their old engine is better than the best nintendo has shown.
