Kingdom Hearts HD Remix to be shown at E3 2012 for Wii U?

Dual Pixels (the original source of the recent Castlevania rumors), is reporting that Square Enix will announce a Kingdom Hearts HD Remix during E3 2012. This collection would include:

  • Kingdom Hearts 1
  • Kingdom Hearts 2
  • Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep

…and, most importantly, would be coming to the Wii U (along with the PS3 and PS Vita).

This is definitely a rumor, but what do you think of it? Is it happening? Hard to believe? Share your thoughts in the comments.

      The thing is many games are remade all the time and it is possible for this to happen, not necessarily with all the games but think about it Kingdom Hearts has had an even split between Nintendo and Sony(not counting Re:CoM) with 3 games on ps2/p and 3 games on gba and 3/ds

      GBA: COM, DS: 358/2 Days and 3DS: DDD. Not counting Re:Coded because he’s not counting Re:CoM for Playstation 2.

    Seems somewhat unlikely. There are so many games in this – and for all them in HD, it would be overtly expensive. Plus, Nomura never said or hinted anything related to this, other than that KH1 and 2 in HD would be “interesting.” IMO it may just be one of those random rumors that pops up in the hype of E3, like that recent one in which Final Fantasy Versus XIII was said to have turned into Final Fantasy XV and will be released for PS3 and Wii U.

      Yes, but there’s no way he could’ve gone from “researching it” to having KH & KH2, as well as several other games, all remade in HD ready to be shown to the public in just a matter of weeks.

      I think the only reason (if this is true) it wont be released for the 3DS is because the screen resolution isn’t high enough to be considered HD. The 3DS is powerful enough to play the games, and if a Vita game can hold that many games, a 3DS cartridge should be able to hold it too because they should be around the same capacity.

    Now all we need is KH3D and KH3, and then the Xehanort saga will be over, and the story will start anew. No seriously, it was confirmed. SE saaid that they will make more KH game after 3, but won’t have to do with Xehanort whatsoever, meaning we are FINALLY getting a new villain!

      Well after the Xehanort saga, they can make a whole new enemy for Sora and gang or just make whole new characters all together. …. i would like new characters all together because (dont get me wrong) but i like sora and his gang and story, but it would be very difficult to make a new enemy for sora and get the same impact KH1-3 (KH1-3 means all the kingdom hearts that were made for the saga) have made(which wouldnt be impossible but be very close to it). Sora’s life was basically told through the games so having new characters would make a lot easier for the KH crew. :DKH

    Please please let these rumors be false. Seriously, grow up people. Square needs to prioritize for future games and not remaking not so old games unless they’re needed. Quite frankly, if you’re a KH fan you would of already played the said games above. Or at least read about them extensively. At which point there’s no need for them to remake them.

      How is this a matter of the fans growing up? people can have excitement for things, like my friend and I both said the moment KH was in HD we would buy the games again, and Yes I have played and beaten every single game and still want it again. Square is a very large business, they have multiple teams for multiple projects its not like remaking KH will take all the staff, causing no new games to be made.

      Dude everyone else is doing it so why can’t square? Also there are many people (however strange) who would love owning multiple copies of the same game for the sake of having them, and even if KH is not as old as other franchises it is also a great way of reintroducing a series to the newer audiences since even if it may not look like long 10 years is actually quite a long time and enough to create 3-4 new gaming generations who won’t find the originals anymore… Or even bother with an older console.

      Why would you want it in HD? Cartoon graphics can’t get any better than they are now for that game. About all that would change is instead of texture mouths for KH1, they would upgrade to using actual animated polygon mouths. Other than that, the other 4 would be pointless and remaking KH1 alone would be pointless. It’s not like it had terrible graphics and animations that made the characters look poor. Remaking any of the others would be an even bigger waste of time. They should just do what everyone else did and rerelease the PS2 titles on the PS3 if they’re that desperate to get people to learn the story.
      Square-Enix, just so you know, sucks at prioritizing their game line-up. When they’re making a game, they focus a majority of the company on that game. There’s only one guy behind most of Square’s games, Tetsuya Nomura, so he’s a pretty busy guy.
      Who else is making a full HD remix? The last game I heard to get an HD remix was Halo 1. Of course, there was a drastic change between Halo 1 and Halo Anniversary graphic wise; a KH1 HD release wouldn’t get that same difference because it uses a cartoon style graphics engine. It doesn’t try to look for realism.

      i think that RE:Coded incorporated with the touch screen controls to utilize a few of the Limit attacks (aka final blows) so i believe this might be tough for the PS3 to handle.

    I like how none of you even read the article this rumor is coming from. “Not only will these Kingdom Hearts titles receive HD makeovers, they’ll be supported with new side quests that’ll tie up the plots of each game. The Wii U version in specific is said to make plot connections with Kingdom Hearts 3D (Dream Drop Distance).” And the supposed title of the game is Kingdom Hearts: Remembrance.

      By “new side quests that’ll tie up the plots” I think they are referring to the Final Mix versions of the games, which were never released in North America, and included additional quests that didn’t appear in the original releases. e.g. KH1 had Curaga spell, the “Enigmatic Man” fight among others, KH2 had a similar fight, another with Roxas, a Critical difficulty, fight replay against all Org XIII, inter-connectivity with Re:CoM, I could keep going. None of which appeared in the North American releases. I never played BBS so I’m not sure what the Final Mix (if any) was like.

    This would be cool because i never really got around to the series just my cousin did and i was younger so when i went to her house i stuck to animal crossing and never asked what she was playing but i did like the music. So that leads me to say why do people like this game so much?

    If this does exist I think it may be a little too much content a Vita game card but the PS3 has Blu-Ray and Nintendo has their custom Blu-Ray like discs so those 2 platforms make sense.

    Does this mean Final Fantasy may be heading home for XV and/or Versus XIII(Lets face it the Wii U would be the most accepted console for vs. XIII to go multiplatform for)

    Seems unlikely for them to recreate the DS games in HD. BBS and the original PS2 ones I can understand, but the DS ones, just to make a HD Collection would require a lot of work, and from the looks of the HD Collections on the PS3/360, I’m not seeing this happening.

    Now that doesn’t mean I won’t be hyping that this happens, and it better happen, for: 1- Finally getting a VITA, and 2- This on the Wii U is a MUST BE. Come on, we have like, 4 games of the series in Nintendo consoles, just like Sony, but they’re fourth is a remake. SO MAKE IT HAPPEN SQUARE!

      However, Chain of Memories was for the GBA and was remade into full 3D as Re:Chain of Memories for PS2 (And in a short time period I might add). 358/2 Days wouldn’t take that long since they would already know how to remake it into a better looking game, since the only thing that would change is the visual representation. As for Birth by Sleep, it would probably be just sharper images and (hopefully) faster loading times.

    Awww the 3DS is getting no love D: Makes me wanna turn into a heartless and rage on some random person holding a key shaped weapon.

    Of course it makes sense being the 3DS can’t support even 720p. Oh well, a SD edition for the 3DS wouldn’t be too bad either.

    If this happens I would probably die of happiness, if this hapeens in the US I would probably keep myself from dying by buying an artifical heart capable of withstanding the intense increase in heartbeat due to pure excitement so I can live long enough to play the game :)

    My bet is that the hd remakes would be for 1,2, and Re:COM (NOT the gba version.) I could see Birth By Sleep too, but it’s doubtful since they have said they wanted to do it because it would be used to catch-up new players of the series. Maybe they could release 2 collections, with the first being the first 3, and the second being 358/2 Days, Birth By Sleep, and Coded, but I don’t think they would unless the first collection really sold well.

    My friend alerted me that it is true. He went in to gamestop and they showed him the book of upcoming games. They had an HD remake for Kingdom Hearts in it. I have waited too long for this. 10 years since Kingdom Hearts 1. Good memories.

    Think about it; why would they REMAKE 5 games, especially 3 that were on portable consoles? Do you know how much time that would take? Plus, Square has many projects that it’s working on at the moment, there’d be no time for this. Anyway, I don’t care for KH, so either way it doesn’t concern me.

    I can deffinately see this coming, allthough I think the selection of games is a bit ambiguous.
    I recon it will hold true to the PS3 layout (allthough obviosily still being on the Wii u, the 360 got a couple of collections so this isn’t impossible)

    So either we’ll just be getting 1 and 2 (in the same way as ico&shadow of colluses) POSSIBLY a second volume of the handheld games, in the same way there was a volume 2 of the God of war collection, or just 1, 2 and maybe birth by sleep (as back story)
    All 5 on one disk though? Sounds too good to be true.

    This is from a recent interview with the KH mastermind and director. I think this kinda proves that he would want to make an anthology so a newcomer could play it all easily before KH3 comes out

    Iwata: When you create a long-running series like this, there must come a time when you worry about the conflict between meeting fan’s expectations and being accessible to new players. What do you think about that?

    Nomura: I worry a lot about that… I feel it’s something that has to be dealt with eventually.

      Well the 3ds can’t support HD, so I doubt we will see that. As for the 360, due to the fact that it hasn’t had any KH games, I doubt that aswell.

    I don’t know if they will do this so soon. I’m pretty sure they will wait for KH3, BBS Volume 2 (Yes it will be happening, though unconfirmed by SE themself, but was teased in the secret episode in BBS Final mix), and KH3D to be launched, and released like a Collector’s edition for like $300 for every single KH game when KH3 is released. If they ever do, I hop kh1, kh2, and BBS are all in their Final Mix versions.

    I can see this being true and hope it is lol I just wonder what the controller would be used as in the screen on it plus this on series I hate for people to make rumors about for one its epic and 2 it has a story that is very well develloped and it can really pull at someones heartstrings if you really pay attention and learn about the characters

      Not really, from what most developers have said, the wii-u is easier to develop for, also it wouldn’t take that long to change the button layout. The minimap would probably be moved to the touch screen.

      Not really- it would just be the same game on all three- except the Wii U controller would probably display something on it’s screen, and they’d probably take advantage of the Vita’s rear touchpad. It’s not a remake (except for 358/2 Days- that would be a remake, likely made with the PS2 engine using assets from Kingdom Hearts II and Re: Chain of Memories.

    Hope this is true. Seems like there is some credibility to it, because Nomura already said that he would like to re-release previous games in the series so that newcomers would be able to understand the story better. Plus, it is the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts.

      You can easily buy the first one online, I just bought a new copy because my old one broke a couple years ago, it only costs like 15ish dollars. Of course if you don’t have a ps2 then you can’t play it still.
