John Carmack wants to bring Doom 3 BFG Edition to Wii U, but doesn’t have the time

John Carmack of Doom fame has said that he wishes he could push Doom 3 BFG edition “a bunch of other code bases” — a geek’s way of saying “other platforms”. He also shared that:

I’ve been bringing up quietly at a bunch of the meetings, “You know, we could make a Vita version, a Wii U version, an iPhone/Android version.” All of these would be reasonable platforms to take this technology. …We do have a very busy development schedule and nothing else is really planned for that.

Maybe this is something that will happen further down the line though? Either way, you can check out the E3 trailer for the edition of the game being worked on at the moment.

      Umm, no. And Carmack’s not overrated. He’s one of the best programmers the industry has ever seen, maybe THE best.

    I loved playing this when I borrowed my friend’s Xbox. Would’ve loved to see the Wii U get it. Well, at least he considered it.

    Meh, possible good news for fans of the series, I guess, though Doom was never anything special to me. Even back when it first came out, it was very generic to me, and didn’t appeal to my tastes. I mean, generic gun designs with generic creature designs, repeating corridors, low aesthetics, no story. I never got the whole fuss, personally. I’d much rather see on the Wii U a new Metroid game with open-world environments, new touchscreen-interactive visors, and tons of story to live out, anyways.

Send Samus through a time warp and let her secretly fight alone side the Chozos against space pirates or something. lol

      dude that wouldn’t actually be bad if you think of it this way it would draw more emotion in the end of the game then samus would be like so mad and then the final mission would be you slaughtering space pirates and own ridley

      Generic weapons? Maybe.
      Generic monsters? Not really.
      Generic level design? Are you out of your fucking mind?
      And this kind of game doesn’t need a story. I don’t think you understand what Doom is all about.

      Doom is better than metriod prime. Where you drop on your head? Doom has more monsters more weapons and was the first fps to make it in the console. With that statement you must be a kid which in that case go take a nap and let the adults talk little boy

      I wouldn’t go that far. Being a Metroid fan since day 1 the whole Metroid series has an enormous wonderful story that’s better than a lot of these other games. The Metroid Prime Trilogy can hold it’s on against Doom. BAM!!!!

    Why waste your time porting for nintendo theyre for kids they soldout to kids. And wii u is wii all over again with poor framerate,no focus on hd,old ports etc. Please just bring it out to pc your gurantee to make money. Consoles are for little kids who buy games used =loss in revenues. pc you can make a fortune and add 8k resolution and use 3d with 3d headtracking. Consoles are getting old. Hopefully with stams helptheyll take pc up a notch

      Yeah, since nothing says “sold out to kids” like retro throwbacks to old games modern adults grew up with.

      Framerate isn’t something built into a console. The Wii U is HD. The Wii U is already confirmed to be getting several multiplats that release this year.

      Console gamers may buy used, but the platform with the most pirates is PCs. How’s that for a loss in revenues?

      To have the stuff you’re talking about would cost literally thousands of dollars. That’s a very small market.

      dude if you go on youtube and type something like pc is the best rage videos are ur fanbase would probably be all that pops up and pc are pricey i could just get a wii u have games that pc can’t have like zelda,starfox,metroid ect and any games that come to pc so consoles have a bigger benefit of games

      If you love pc so much why are on a specefied towards a console? I’ll stick to playin Smash Bros with my friends on a Wii U rather than worrying about catching a virus on my pc.

    Forget nintendo put more effort into the xbox. Xbox already has an installed base of hardcore fans. Nintendo is for kids. Let kids play childen games.Also cwsuals dont ay doom so why waste all your efforts into a group of little kids who want contribute to anything but cry and whine. Focus your attention on xbox which has better online experiance and as said million of times were outselling sony so please bring to xbox and put it into the arcade live where we have many people who enjoy community gaming
