Satoru Iwata has confirmed that Nintendo would “like to show the final format of the Wii U at the E3 show next year.” This is not that much of a surprise, but he went on to say that Nintendo learned a “bitter lesson” in regards to the launch of the 3DS and they are “trying to take every possible measure so that the Wii U will have a successful launch.” I’m wondering why they didn’t take those measures when launching the 3DS, but I’m suspecting they’d become cocky.

    When is "201"? xD

"I'm suspecting they'd become cocky" Yes I agree.

It's a shame that so many people got a Wii despite its lacklustre list of good games. That sent Nintendo the message that they were doing OK, when in reality, this overall drop in sales was going to happen sooner or later because of all the upset fans that felt Nintendo had abandoned them to try and have everyone else. In the long run that strategy was bound to fail. I hope that Nintendo go back to their roots to win back their fans.

E3 is very far hope soon to see some demo

    So pumped for this :D

I expected no less from them. The 3DS' initial failure was due to a variety of factors, seen and unforeseen. Not a one can spread otherwise news that would be false. It's my belief that the 3DS will indeed get on its feet Holiday 2011 with the introduction of two AAA titles and price drop, as well as November System Update. The concept of 3DS has come too far to fail now. 3D has remained with Nintendo for years, and they finally achieved a marketable system for it–the system cannot die because it is the trumpeter of progress! For when there's one, there's more, and in 40 years (give or take a decade), all systems will be 3D, following the example of the first successful stab in that venture. Same goes for the Wii U–the marketable introduction of tablet home console gaming.

    ^^ This

Hit the nail on the head.

I hope the "Bitter Lesson" they learned was the 3DS's lack of a second analog stick so this time for Wii U they add clickable analogs to the controllers and better ZR and ZL buttons…

  • Lene

    +1 for Gummy.
But I don't think we will have to wait that long for universal 3D content in VG. This will happen in the 2020's, in the worst case.

2D-only displays will soon seem as out dated as black and white displays.

Phazer Effect: stop trolling about that stupid analog "stick". It 's becoming ridiculous.

  • DJD

Why people keeps thinking that buttons in analog sticks are stupid and no useful? Try to move and aim with 2 Analog Sticks in fastpaced FPS and use touch screen for buttons in same time. It wont work. That's where analog stick buttons are needed.

OMGWTFBBQ!! The Regginator has a Wii U at his office which he plays everyday!!! D:<

  • emperor-pikmin

I think the final format Wii U should have pressure sensitive shoulder buttons so they can make a Super Mario Sunshine sequal, because without them you could not use F.L.U.D.D.

  • Mohan

Bitter leason = Don't get too cocky, got it!

  • DanielJB

About the 3DS failure is no more because it's back on track.

Yes. They needed this a lot. They needed this almost as much as Sony needed the PSN hacks.

I say that as a proud 3DS owner, AND a PSN user.

    @Gummy

I could not have said it any better. Kudos to you sir.

    +1 Gummy. I agree.

Also, I think Nintendo needs to really, REALLY have a game that shows that this console is truly a next-gen console, that the games possible on the Wii U just aren't possible on anything out there today. I really hope somebody has the balls to look at the Wii U as something theirs for the taking, a console to really embrace and make it something outstanding, because the console truly is capable of delivering that. I hope Nintendo puts the pressure on developers to take advantage of the Wii U, to not merely show off the Wii U, but challenge and inspire developers to step up (and stop being such wimps about supporting the Wii U). They need to emphasize to both developers and fans alike that this is not just a novelty, but an innovation that's going to change the shape of gaming (a new standard in gaming to contribute to the many standards they already contributed to gaming). This ain't just a "tablet controller" as many analysts call it (it's not a tablet to begin with)–it's a window for bringing some fresh experiences to console gaming. I hope Nintendo knocks it out of the park at E3, because if I have to depend on Microsoft and Sony for my innovation fix and experiencing something new with console gaming, well, I just won't get any.

I think Nintendo needs to spend all E3 showing just how much the Wii U isn't another Wii in order to have a successful launch with the Wii U. The 3DS got a second chance that many game systems just don't get–many of which that Nintendo themselves smoked in competition. But I don't think they can afford another miracle save again. They'll need to have the Wii U see a positive reaction from the start. While I think the Wii U would most likely pick up more success at Holidays 2012, because people just spent a load on game this holiday season and will be recovering by the time the Wii U launches, the Wii U will need enough sales to make it formidable by time the 2012 holiday season comes. This E3 will be about selling the concept of the Wii U to people, to show this thing develops console gaming to a whole new level, and to not just resting on their awesome name or even the success of the Wii. Despite the name sharing the lineage of the Wii, they'll have to treat Wii U like an entirely different beast than the Wii. Otherwise, most people will just see the Wii U as another Wii, just like they thought the 3DS was just another DS.

By the way, what's up, guys? Been a while for me!
