Satoru Iwata has said in an interview that we “shouldn’t be expecting Call of Duty-like games to be offered from Nintendo”, which is similar to what we’ve heard before, but is a good reminder for people expecting to Nintendo to shift their strategy all of a sudden.

But, that doesn’t mean there won’t be that sort of experience on the platform:

For that type of game my belief is that, if there are companies out there who can do this very well, then instead of us try to do it this, or to compete with them, it would be better to have them do it on our platforms, so to invite them and to support them to offer this kind of entertainment on our platform.

And I suspect this is leading toward the ultra-official announcement of Black Ops 2 for the Wii U.

i use to like nintendo becuz of that. becuz they arent violent people. but maybe they should sell metroid then becuz thats the only way were going to get a good metroid game.

    • Tails the Foxhound

I take it that was a jab at Other M? Please tell me how one bad game suddenly invalidates 9 others?

    • csaw

The irony since other M was made by team ninja, the creaters of the very violent ninja gaiden franchise.

    • http://profiles.google.com/xdavidxhoylexx David Hoyle

no it wasnt becooz of other m. its just i made better versions of metroid on paper when i was in school bored when the people who does make metroid games are companies and teams of people who gets paid alot. if i had programmers that worked for me i can make a new metroid game every few weeks for years. if they can program stuff that fast but i mean my idea are infinite becuz i have a powerful imagination like spongebob.

    • Tails the Foxhound

Yeah, and if I had a talented staff I could make games that (I think) would sell millions too. But I don’t, and you don’t either. I mean honestly, you aren’t really bashing Nintendo on an “I can imagine a better game.” basis are you?

    • Egghollo

Hahaha your comment is kinda cute.

    • Electric Zoo

Because you have to be violent to make violent games. SEEMS LEGIT

    • http://twitter.com/Revolution5268 Revolution

so let mii get this straight, U want Nintendo to do what the west is doing just like other companies, no; companies like capcom, sega, and konami are not doing well right now, especially sega, look at capcom, they abandon mega man for another game a monster hunter want to be. konami is only good for castlevenia games. Nintendo will not abandon there games to please western people, there a JP company not American.

    • http://profiles.google.com/xdavidxhoylexx David Hoyle

konami is only good for crapping up yugioh.

    • Captain Falcon

Bomberman, Castlevania, Contra, Metal Gear, and Silent Hill isn’t good for you?

    • Electric Zoo

This is what I predict he will say:
”lololseriously? Those games are violent and we all know anyone who plays violent games are themselves violent and kill people regularly AM I RIGHT? and those games suck regardless even though I haven’t played them. Only I know how to make good games becuz im a conceited little kid even though I have next to no experience”
Hilarious if he actually says that.

    • Captain Falcon

I absolutely hate it when he says “becuz”.

  • cutefan

what about metriod that’s similar well somewhat

    • Captain Falcon

      Nope…

    • Da Man Live

      Captain Falcon Said NO!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/audie.bowler Audie Bowler

lol metoid like COD thats like saying cheese is like coal ,its nothing like COD ,and he is clearly indicating to 3rd partys and gamers that wiiu in universal

    • Cameron Simonson

No one said anything about Metroid.

  • Tails the Foxhound

I don’t know that you should be so quick to abandon this Nintendo. I mean, between Custom Robo, Metroid, and Starfox, you’ve already got three series with the foundations of making a game like Call of Duty without tarnishing the name you’ve worked so hard to build up. Custom Robo for example, already has the customization of your “soldier”s weapons and abilities as a core mechanic, all you have to do is tie the unlocks to multiplayer instead of (or in addition to) single player. Honestly I could see spin-off of these three series shaping up as Custom Robo = Call of Duty/Halo (first person shooter), Metroid = Team Fortress/Gears of War: Judgement (class based shooter), Starfox = Dark Void/Gears of War (cover based shooter). Remember, when people call for a “Call of Duty” like experience, they’re not necessarily talking about realism or blood or what not.

Edit: Oh god, why did that post end up so huge! O_O

    • Cameron Simonson

It isn’t huge at all. Duh. And they really can’t be like those games. They are VERY different. Play them to see what I mean.

  • Diamond Ammo

Good, Nintendo realizes that these military shooters are overated and they suck, just continue making more metroid primes for 3ds and wii u, I have alot of fun with those, But I wish there was more weapon variety in those games. Because they can get repetitive.

    • Egghollo

lol how can you say military shooters suck. If they did suck they wouldn’t sell well, which they do.

    • Cameron Simonson

? It doesn’t matter on sales. It matters on GAMEPLAY. And they can suck.

    • storabajskorven

      You’re saying McDonald’s make excellent food…?

    • ePik Min

      Your’re saying McDonald’s make food…?

  • http://www.facebook.com/henrik.puetz Henrik Puetz

wow.that heading scared me :/ I could only read dont expect call of duty…

  • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

To be honest, the only first-person shooter franchise I would care about is one made by Nintendo. That’s because it wouldn’t be the same ol’ regurgitated FPS games we keep getting with the likes of the staling Call of Duty franchise–it’d probably be something original, refreshing and well-designed. Of course, I like who Nintendo is, and I’m glad they do realize that they should just do what they do best and invite others to do what they do best. Though still, a new Nintendo IP in the form of a first-person shooter game (perhaps with an adventure element) probably WOULD be awesome.

    • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Even just a special crossover FPS game would be awesome, such as Metroid-meets-Zelda where Samus Aran and Link swap universes and now Samus is fighting for Hyrule…with an arm cannon and Link is fighting against some variant of space pirates…with the Master Sword. …Hey, a guy can dream!

    • Cameron Simonson

Its called Golden Eye. For N64.

    • Kwami

Perfect Dark. But he should try borderlands.

    • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I’ve owned and played (and loved) both of those games, guys. They play nothing like the idea I threw out there.

    • Egghollo

That was the most terrible idea for a game I ever heard.

    • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

      Sorry–I don’t feed trolls.

    • Youratroll

      Your a troll….

    • DementedAvenger27

      you’RE a troll…damn, now i’m a troll

    • AquaFire

Dude You should check out borderlands then.It is defiantly not a cod clone it’s miles ahead and beyond it.

    • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

I was talking about the general population of FPSes. Of course, there are going to be exceptions–but the exceptions are few and far between. I’d like for Nintendo to contribute something completely unthought of for the FPS genre.

Oh yeah, and I’m familiar with Borderlands. ;)

    • Pika pika

Dafuq? What about halo ya ignorant prick?

    • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

You arrogant bastard. Man, I despise you out-of-the-blue no-name dime-a-dozen trolls. I don’t care about your confidence in arrogance found behind online anonymity.

By the way, Halo is nothing special to me. Its storyline just doesn’t appeal much to me, and its gameplay is painfully generic.

    • Big E

Try the Left 4 Dead series. You may like it.

    • Egghollo

      Try Bioshock.

    • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

Seriously, guys, why are you all assuming that I’m not well aware of these franchises?

  • Nintyfan10

    Slightly mislead at first

  • Luis Barajas

I guess Americans just like shooters.

    • Myst

      Not all of us, though.

    • Cameron Simonson

Fricking idiot. Its just that theres so many stupid Americans. I’m a smart one, and I love everything that isn’t a fps.

    • Pika pika

Well aren’t you a modest redneck?

  • smug

Nintendo will be playing it ultra safe. I bet Retro is working on another donkey country cash in.. considering that franchise is selling like gang busters.. this gen from Nintendo is going to be one big let down for hardcore fans of Nintendo systems and games. Thankfully we are seeing a lot of great games on the 3DS.. Nintendo is just too stubborn to step out of their cash kings.. a let down for sure.. at least we get a pikmin game.. that alone is worth the price of the Wii U..

    • Cameron Simonson

uhhh….. It is going to be hardcore. Looking at Skyward Sword and Mario 3D Land were going to get hardcore games.

    • http://twitter.com/Revolution5268 Revolution

another graphic whore people nothing to see here.

  • http://pokemontactic.blogspot.com/ Kirby9o9

Yay that solves my fps pc vs wiiu problem lol
although I still wish they’ll have cod for the wii u because of the new features

    • Captain Falcon

Black Ops || is pretty much confirmed for the Wii U.

    • http://twitter.com/Revolution5268 Revolution

idk man i think it is coming to wii u, but there is not real prove, or even gameplay of it.

    • Captain Falcon

True. Yet you don’t see PC/PS3 footage of Black Ops || due to the fact that COD favors the Xbox.

    • http://twitter.com/Revolution5268 Revolution

its possible that it may come to wii & wii u like COD 3

    • http://pokemontactic.blogspot.com/ Kirby9o9

@twitter-288451081:disqus Well It seems like treyarch is leaned more to the wii than activision because if you’ve noticed cod world at war and black ops have both been on the wii but not mw2 and 3

    • Captain Falcon

Actually, MW3 is on the Wii.

    • http://pokemontactic.blogspot.com/ Kirby9o9

oh sorry, I overlooked that :p
But I hope they do have it for the wii u

    • http://twitter.com/Revolution5268 Revolution

yeah that’s what im saying; black ops may end up in both wii & wii u because they have experience on that console.

  • gamer272

this staintment does not meen no call of duty of fps’s it meens dont expect nintendo to personaly make one

  • AM

I am personally not a fan of first person shooter games (mainly because I cannot play any lol) but I know a lot of people who like these games so it is nice that Nintendo is leaving the door open to third parties who make these games.

  • Galaxy

    One word: OLD

David, if you can’t keep your blog up to date then close it. I don’t even know why you started the blog. You’ve been reporting old and useless information that everyone knew

    • DementedAvenger27

how about he NOT close it and you go somewhere else.

    • Galaxy

I obviously go somewhere else. Do you honestly think someone would stick to one site for information?

I have many sites I visit, which are up to date. If he can’t do it then close it. He’s clearly not giving 100 percent, including his videos on YouTube.

If someone doesn’t update their blog for almost a whole month and puts up, old news, then the blog needs to go.

    • DementedAvenger27

sorry man, but i don’t keep THAT up to date with my VG news. so i like coming here and seeing this stuff. just cuz it isn’t new to you doesn’t mean its not new to the rest of us.

  • http://www.facebook.com/martin.kearney.104 Martin Kearney

    Metriod Prime? Anyone…

    • SLiren

Prime its NOT and First-Person Shooter its an First-Person ADVENTURE!

    • http://www.facebook.com/martin.kearney.104 Martin Kearney

None of the less, it’s still a first person view.
