A beta tester who has supposedly started working with Crytek has revealed that the company is not working on a game for the Wii U. But, “they created a Crysis 3 level just to fully understand the console capabilities”, and the results are promising. The game managed to run at thirty frames per second with these settings:

  • DirectX 9
  • Native 720p resolution
  • FXAA filter (it is impossible to use txaa)
  • High-quality texture (no pop up as in the Ps3/x360 game version due to the higher RAM amount)
  • Not fully implemented water shaders
  • “Great” particles effects (ambient occlusion on par with PC version)
  • Lighting effect on par with PC version (ultra setting)

One of the limitations is that the developers weren’t able to turn off the display on the tablet controller though, so the staff thinks if that was possible, they would be able to run the game at a native 1080p resolution.

As is always almost the case though, this is a rumour, so take it with a grain of salt.

DX9 on a non-microsoft console? Sorry but it can’t happen. Also, particles effects have nothing to do with ambient occlusion. FAKE!

that directx9-level is for the program they used on making the graphics, i think (only a guess, ’cause I had an application that won’t let me use unless I had DirectXsomething)

I agree with pocketmanu, there’s something strange here because DirectX only runs on Microsoft machines.

Perhaps they meant DirectX9-level capabilities? (i.e., no tesselation, among other things)

    • Wildman

I’m pretty sure that is what they meant.

  • Trulaw

I think this is fake. For one, FXAA and TXAA are what Nvidia use for post-process anti-aliasing, The Wii U has a AMD GPU and they use MLAA.

  • D2K

Are we doing the “unnamed sources” thing again?

    *smh*

    • AquaFire

      Looks that way

  • Ice Climbers

Sounds fake to me, because he may or may not be actually working with Crytek. I have a feeling that Crytek is working on a game for Wii U.

    • D2K

I also believe Crytek is working on a game.

    • AquaFire

It would be awful if they weren’t.

  • WiiU

Oh I thought it was real for a second..

  • silver is money paper is paper

this is a fake ass hardly core gamer doing that dumb ass pc vs console nonsense yet again FAKE ALL THE WAY

his talking as if wiiu is a pc vs a pc and is somehow weaker its clearly an idiot core trying to look cool and with it

  • Aanx

It is fake. If I am sure, the website in which this rumor appeared was a forum, and the same forum members said that the one saying that was commonly known for pulling bullshit.

Also, It has been stated by other developers that they can indeed turn off the tablet if thats what they desire.

  • Wildman

    We will see soon Crytek.

    • Snake

      That’s awesome

  • TGM

Fake. Crytek is working on Homefront 2 for Wii U.

  • StarTropics

So what if theres no Crysis 3 on Wii U

The name of this song is what ERBODY should be doing

I’m sure Nintendo would give them a way to develop without the controller screen being on if they were serious about making a game on Wii U, they allowed Tekken to not have 3D so why not?

  • Pretendo

Damn! I am starting to hate it when some moron gives info, suppose info, and in it I see stupid “direct x” this or “direct x” that… MORONS!!

Sony and Nintendo use OpenGL and stuff!!! They will not use ANY of Microsoft’s technologies for graphics… maybe for some trivial software, like Skype or similar unavoidable ones but they wont use Direct X.

I would like to kick anyone who mentions Direct X as a measurement of performance of graphic card tech on consoles again!!! (asides from MS console that is)…

    Damned morons!!!
