Japan

Satoru Iwata has revealed that the Wii U will be available in Japan on the 8th of December. There will be two bundles available. The “Basic” bundle, which has 8GB of storage, will cost ¥26,250. This is roughly $340 USD. The “Premium” bundle, which has 32GB of storage, will cost ¥31,500, which is about $405 USD.

  • Michael M

So that probably means its going to be $270-$300 for the 8GB and $330-$350 for the 32GB. Fair price.

    • ABEzilla116

If the launch of the 3DS means anything, it will be around 250-270.

  • millsy

Getting the Premium, but seriously? $405 USD? That’s like $650 AUD.

Dang nabbit now I have to wait till midnight tonight to find out the Australian details. It is a little bit worrying that Japan is getting it in December…maybe we will get it next year.

    • Babymario26

Nintendo said that the WiiU is coming THIS year, it be bad if they did that.

    • http://www.stephen-parry.com/ Stephen

They also said that they weren’t making a new 3DS…bam 3DSXL. It sucks we can’t believe everything we hear.

The Wii hit the US a month before it hit Japan, but hit Australia a few days after. It will be there this year.

    • http://www.stephen-parry.com/ Stephen

      fingers crossed

    • http://www.facebook.com/chris.parlamas Chris Parlamas

Don’t worry, my friend. They wouldn’t do that to you… at least as far as I know. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you guys.

    • http://www.stephen-parry.com/ Stephen

      thanks :)

    • Acephoenix

The 3DSXL wasn’t a “new” 3DS. It was just a bigger version. So technically it is just an optional model- not hardware. You can choose if you want a bigger (more expensive) 3DS, or a smaller (less expensive) 3DS.

    • Soeroah

Not quite. What Miyamoto said was he thought the current (original) 3DS hardware was good enough, and that they didn’t need to make a new model. He never really said they wouldn’t be making one.

Unless you refer to the ancient quote from a year or two back?

    • http://www.facebook.com/AJ.Fowl Andrew Chambers

They said that the only reason the 3DSXL was made was because fans asked for it. You’re mad that Nintendo gave people what they want?

    • Peter

We’re definitely getting it this year. I actually anticipate a release close to that of Japan’s…

It’ll be cheaper in the US

  • http://www.facebook.com/tony.lane.35 Tony Lane

I’ll look forward to the media briefing here in America when I return from work.

  • WeeGee

plus remember th 3ds costed more in japan than america(and in europe but only like 10 euro.) So I gues the 8gb vr gona cst 249.99 and the 32 gb vr. 299.99.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chris.parlamas Chris Parlamas

You realize it probably won’t be as high as the conversion says, right? I honestly see 250 -350 as the two US prices.

  • SourGrape

IF WE TRANSLATE IT IS ROUGHLY $323.97 SHARED IT ON (NOTE THIS IS NOT PREMIUM BUNDLE) IM SO EXCITED :D

  • DSSiege11

Back when the Wii launched it costed 25,000
¥ and 250$ so hopefully this means it’ll be 265$ for the Basic and 315$ for the Premium :D

  • zain

The White wii is 8gb… the black wii is 32 gb….heh sorry immature but funny

  • Jonathan

use this conversor and take in consideration the cheapest value (it works for 3ds xl -10 dls) so i guess its 8gb 250 and 32gb 300, and the gamepad 120dls

    • ABEzilla116

That’s basically what it was for the 3DS. 25000 japan launch price and $250 US launch price.

  • Ausie3DS

This means that in Australia it will probably cost $450AU

    • http://www.stephen-parry.com/ Stephen

I’m quite happy with that. I’ll just chuck it on pre-order and pay it off

    • Soeroah

I assume you’re talking about the 8 gig one? I’m expecting the 32g one to be in excess of $500, because of the Australia Tax.

    • Peter

I believe it will probbably cost $400 and $450 in Australia.

  • Zack

I’m actually kind of glad the price is higher than the rumors of $200 – $300. While lower prices are obviously good, I would hate for Nintendo to make things cheap and cut corners, just to set the price low and appeal to casual gamers, families, and kids. But this way, you know you’re getting a nice system for $340 – $405.
And the bundles are a great idea. “Wii U”, means “We You”, which means “Together and Alone”, which basically means “Casual and hardcore gamers”. It makes a lot of sense to have the option for casual gamers to spend less and keep it simple, while hardcore gamers can spend more money for things they care about.

    • MadCrain

      Look at mah snake ___/

    • Donald Tan

      oh my god snake :|

    • Peter

      Agreed.

    • AxGamer

I disagree the steep price will give the haters a weapon to use against us. Now lets listen to Mr. Pachter laugh maniacly!

    • Symbol de Au

It doesn’t mean together and alone…It’s trying to prevent that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/AJ.Fowl Andrew Chambers

I have a feeling that they originally wanted to release it on December 7th, but then remembered what that day was…

  • AxGamer

Bad move Nintendo! With a price that steep the onlyone buying a Wii U would be the die hard fans! And the skeptics now have something else to cram down our throats!

  • DanDroid

NoA and Europe are Definately not getting this earlier, I’m putting money down on a week before Christmas. Heck I don’t even know why I’m commenting! Just a few more hours!

  • DrunkEnShadow

I wonder if i ll need 32 gb for the Wii U or just go with 8gb…anyway i can get extra memory card right?

  • Hybrilynx

i wonder why its still expensive no matter what.

  • mrnintendo622

why does america get it first? O_o

    • BasementofNerds

‘Merica! loves Nintendo too you know
