An analyst’s predictions for E3 2012

Destructoid has shared their predictions for E3 2012 and, mixed in with their predictions are the predictions of Jesse Divnich, an industry analyst. He believes that:

  • Retro Studios is working on Metroid Prime 4 for the Wii U.
  • Pikmin 3 won’t be a day-one launch title.
  • Rayman Legends will be playable during the show.
  • The Wii U won’t up-scale Wii games to high-definition.
  • Nintendo won’t change the name of the Wii U.
  • Black Ops 2 won’t come to the Wii U.
  • There will be news about the next Smash Bros. title.

But what do you think? Would you agree? Disagree? I’ll do a “general predictions for E3 2012″ post in the next few days, so for now, focus on Divnich’s expectations. Farfetched? Likely? Share your thoughts below.

      i think that was “Tak’s” point. If they think they can make money they will create a fourth one. Retro said they were announcing something “huge” and this would help Nintendo appeal to hardcore gamers.

      Not Prime 4…cuz Prime trilogy was a critical darling but did NOT sell great and metroid has never been the most popular of Nintendo’s franchises so they won’t rely on it at E3. It’s either a different metroid game or different Nintendo IP.

      Me too knowing that sakurai just started woring on it in january so not much of the game can be talked out now.

      I believe that they’ll announce the new smash bros.4 website being updated all throughout 2013 to see a release date somewhere in 2014.

    I definitely agree on the upcoming games of Retro Studios’ Metroid Prime as well as the next Super Smash Bros. IP. It’s pity we won’t see Black Ops 2 on the U, but who cares?

    Considering the Wii U uses an HDMI to connect to 720p+ TVs, I think it WILL upscale Wii games. Not any more than say the Dolphin Emulator does though.

    I disagree that Black Ops 2 won’t be for the wii-u. While , to say the least , I don’t care for CoD (mainly just the games made this generation) , you can count on the CoD franchise to try to make the game accessible to wii owners , correct me if I’m wrong , but every CoD game to date this generation has been ported to wii too , if that was done I don’t see why it would be any different on the wii-u which will AT LEAST be as powerful as ps3/360.

      I doubt the reason that CoD not appearing on the WII U has anything to do with the consoles power since it far exceed current gen.

      I tend to believe Wii U port of CoD would have to take advantage of the U pad so they could make it worth it.

      At the very least i would like to see them use thw wiimotes type of control but with wii U processing capabilities. it would play like the wii version but with next gen graphics. Best of both world

    Why does everyone use “upscaling” :S

    A HD-TV does in fact upscale a SD resolution picture/video, coming from a DVD-source, a game console or any other source. If it didn’t upscale it, it would cover as many pixels in 1:1 on the TV as the native resolution.

    What we will NOT se however with Wii games in the Wii U is it rendering Wii games in HD resolution. But that is a whole different thing, since you have to emulate the games, or re-release them.

      Won’t there be a slight increase in visuals ifthe WiiU is connected through HD and plays wii games?

      Wouldn’t it be better than using YPbPr cables from original wii in 480p mode?

    I think the prediction of COD coming really depends on console sales COD has been on every system it can be on and the only thing I can see holding it back is console sales

    I’d be pretty surprised if there wasn’t even a MENTION of the next Super Smash Bros., but I doubt it will be anything more than a brief trailer that has fans screaming their pants off.

    But man, Nintendo better deliver a good E3 conference this year. I don’t think people are going to fall for the whole “Hey look at all these launch titles we have coming for our new system OH WHOOPS SORRY THEY’RE COMING A FULL YEAR AND A HALF AFTER THE LAUNCH LULULULUL!” thing that they did with the 3DS.

    Sounds all right. Except I don’t think they’ll say whether Pikmin 3 will be a launch title or not at E3. They just will announce the game, and not mention the release date. I do think it’s a right prediction, just not an E3 prediction.

    pikmin might be a launch title, considering how long nintendo has worked on it
    Rayman legends is a given
    nintendo already told us wiiu won’t upscale wii games
    obviously they aren’t changing the name if there is already a facebook page and the name is on the controller
    Call of duty is on everything, even if there isn’t a wiiu version there might be a wii version
    I highly doubt we will see ssb as it’s only been in development for 4 months

    Retro Studios is working on Metroid Prime 4 for the Wii U. – It’s either that or the Metroid/Starfox cross-over but I do believe Retro is working on something and they’ll reveal that at E3.

    Pikmin 3 won’t be a day-one launch title. – This can go either way, but Nintendo has been working on Pikmin the longest and without any other first-part launches besides New Super Mario bros. i’m pretty sure, Pikmin will be a debut title.

    Rayman Legends will be playable during the show. – Yes as Ubisoft will just need to get a stage or two running on it

    The Wii U won’t up-scale Wii games to high-definition.- That’s a given

    Nintendo won’t change the name of the Wii U. – We found that out recently

    Black Ops 2 won’t come to the Wii U. – I think this is wrong for a few things:
    - Treyarch is a big supporter on nintendo and by not revealing a Wii edition of Black Ops 2 suggests they are making a Wii-U version but are under strict orders by Nintendo to not reveal that until E3. Nintendo wants big sales and hardcore 3rd party, and COD is as big as they come.

    There will be news about the next Smash Bros. title – this is a very vague prediction as news could be anything such as, “we’re still working on it”

      - Show case online and user interface as well as dashboard

      - Show New and improve controller

      - New Super Mario Bros. Mii will be packaged with Nintendo

      - Chase Mii and Battle Mii will be preloaded software

      - Star wars Battlefront 3 will be announced

      - Splinter Cell Retribution, Castlevania 2, Blops 2, GTA V and Just Dance 4 will be announced for Wii-U

      - AC3 will run at 1080p and 60fps on Wii-U

      Remember man. These are PREDICTIONS. Pikmin 3 has been VERY long under development so i believe it will be a launch title.

    I think it is possible a game with similar gameplay to the Metroid Prime games is possible, but another Metroid Prime is unlikely as the trilogy is over. Pikmin has been worked on for a long time, so I’m pretty sure it’ll be a launch title. I suppose it is possible for Rayman Legends to be playable. I’m pretty sure it was obvious Nintendo won’t change the name. I don’t know what to say about BO2. Smash Bros hasn’t been in development for that long, so I doubt there will be news.

    - Retro is almost for sure working on Metroid, but Prime was a trilogy. Nobody said there’d be no more first person Metroids, but the Metroid Prime/Dark Samus/Phazon story is over. My money is on Sylux from Hunters reappearing.

    - This would be dumb. Wii emulators can run Wii ROMs in HD (YouTube “Twlight Princess ROM HD”).

    In this order:
    1. I don’t know. I’m more up for the Star Fox/Metroid crossover (as is David). A fourth game to a trilogy seems unlikely. Besides, I’m already fantasizing my thoughts as to how the game (even though it presently stands as a rumor) might take place.

    2. I wouldn’t think so. Just like Kid Icarus: Uprising, these things take time to ripen and perfect, and you can’t pluck them prematurely.

    3. I’m no Rayman fan. I could care less.

    4. Well, that should be common sense by now. The 3DS doesn’t add 3D to last-gen DS games, so why would people think that the Wii U will add HD to last-gen Wii games?

    5. They SHOULDN’T! Nintendo doesn’t give in to peer pressure, and they have their reasons for the name “Wii U”. For the Wii, they chose that over “Revolution” because the word “We” is language universal.

    6. Just like Rayman, Call of Duty isn’t my cup of tea either.

    7. Just like the Star Fox/Metroid rumor, I hope there’s more info about the next Super Smash Bros. game as well. Those two things (even though one is rumored) are what I want to hear the most about from Nintendo’s E3 conference.

      Yeah, as much as any Ninty fan wants it to, Smash Bros won’t be shown, if they do, it’ll suck. It’s way too early in development. However, we may, just may, see screenshots AFTER E3 . Always a possibility.

    For those not in the know there are 5, yes FIVE CoD games on the DS, and there are even 5 more CoD games on the Wii.

    Now why in HELL would it NOT come to the a more capable machine?

    1) Retro studios may be working on Metroid Prime 4.

    2) There is no evidence to suggest that Pikmin 3 could not be a launch title.

    5) It is obvious that Nintendo wont change the name.

    6) Black Ops 2 will most likely come to the Wii U, because Activision have nothing to lose. They will get more money because it is published on another platform.

    7) It is unlikely to have news about the next Smash Bros, because it is either very early in the development or it hasn’t even started. Maybe they could share some ideas about the game?

Nintendo has already said that. Black Ops not on Wii U? Is that because there’s not official announcement? What a load of…!

    I think that there will be news about Smash Bros. It may just be a couple of words, but I think it will happen. Just because they just started to make the game doesn’t mean that they cant have news on it. Smashh Bros. is one of Nintendo’s big-name titles. They know we are expecting something. Then, they also want to hype up the Wii U. So they might just say something about it just to get us excited. I agree with the developers

    “Metroid Prime 4″ won’t happen. The Prime series is about Phazon, which disappeared completely at the end of the trilogy. What they probably mean is “a new 3D Metroid”, which I hope to happen, too.

    I think Retro is working on something metroid related, but not prime 4, I honestly think Pikimin will be there at launch or at least very soon after, I have no idea why they don’t expect Black Ops on the Wii U, Activision puts that garbage on every system they can and I wouldn’t expect them to miss this opportunity, and I expect next to nothing about Smash Bros.
    I don’t expect the news to change, and I’m sure Rayman will be playable at the show, on the topic of upscaling Wii games, I don’t really think that that is possible so I doubt it will happen, the games weren’t made in HD so they can’t be displayed in that way…

      Just swap “less than a year” for “less than two months.” :P

      I think the most we’ll get about the game is more confirmation that it is being made. I really, really doubt anything like a title or screenshots. Much less a trailer or demo.

    - Black Ops 2 won’t come to the Wii U. (Maybe, but I doubt this–they try to put their Black Ops series on anything that can handle it.)

    All that sounds reasonable except for Smash Brothers news. As awesome as that would be, SSB4 will take some time in the concepts stage. Just as Zelda will, and any other big name system sellers that have only recently been started. Retro has been working on their project for well over a year, so I expect to hear from them.

    First off, why is there so much hate on the current name of the system, I will admit, it is not ground breaking in originality, but a name like Wii 2 or Wii HD is just as bad. If Nintendo are going to keep the Wii portion, anything that follows will be equal in its level of creativeness. Just as Xbox 360/720 is stupid…. its not a circle, so someone please explain to me how its name refers to the amount of degrees in a rotation, if there is a different meaning behind that name please explain it lol. sorry about the Xbox tangent. I personally do not support a Wii U name change, I think it is perfectly fine, and will not have an effect on itd salability.
    As for E3 predictions, Samus in 1080p sounds amazing :) sign me up. I also have heard there was a rumor going around about lucas arts having something for the Wii U at E3, and personally that really excites me. I just think of using the tablet controler as Jango’s ID scanner from SW bounty hunter, or similar things, would really help immerse someone into the game. And personally I always wanted a sequel to that game… maybe Boba?. even something to follow the Star wars republic commando series would be nice. but Battlefront 3 would be acceptable. I miss the good games from LA. In other words, not a huge fan of force unleashed.
    Other E3 news, smash bros. will be coming but I don’t think we will see any footage. As for FPSs like CoD, those don’t interest me nearly as much as seeing a uniquely developed Ghost recon game. GR: online looks neat but it seems a little to arcade like for my liking, especially with the bullet shield thing and microwave emitter, as well as the bull rush feature with that riot shield looking tool. Something like Future soldier would be neat.
    Overall I do feel a lot of minds are going to be blown. And I am definitely hoping MS and PS fans will finally take their heads out of there hindquarters and stop being so immature with console bashing… I apologize if i offended any Xbox fans with my negative comment about the system name that makes no sense to me :).

    1) Retro is working on a game that will probably be announced during E3 but I doubt it’s Metroid Prime 4.
    2) I’m not sure because it may be a big game but they have been working on it for a long time so I could very well be a launch title but you never know with main franchises, they wanna polish them more.
    3) Most likely due to the trailer.
    4) I didn’t even consider that an option and will not happen.
    5) Yep, The Facebook page is out and everything.
    6) Not sure, but Treyarch has ported many of their games to Wii and I’d imagine it would be easier on Wii U since they don’t have to remake the game with less power. So it may be on it but you never know.
    7) I am going to have to disagree with this because it is still super early in development and although Nintendo knows Smash Brothers attracts attention, it’s way too soon to give details on anything new since last year.
