yyyeeeeee, boy do I need an external hard drive before I consider digital over psychical on the U. And boy am I glad to have my U in my hands.

    • http://www.facebook.com/tony.lane.35 Tony Lane

You’re not the only one here. I most definitely need to get an external hard drive in case of one of the most talked about Wii U titles to be sold out.

    • Marty

well good thing cyber Monday is right around the corner :D.

  • me

hmm. i think i will buy the actual game disc rather than spending on a hard drive. I would be paying the same to download the games anyways so might as well save money and not get a hard drive.

    • BigRedBro

Im afraid we’ll get to the day physical games will not be sold anymore, so lets keep buying the actual games. Too late for NINTENDO POWER though, R.I.P fare well good friend.

    • http://www.facebook.com/craigybabyxo Craig Brown

Are hard drives really that expensive in the US? I got a 1TB hard drive for £99.99. Then again, your 3D TV’s are seriously expensive, while everyone in the UK are buying them, so prices are getting really cheap.

    • http://twitter.com/enahs_gd shane doherty

It’s not so much that they are expensive (especially when for a computer), but when it’s dedicated to a video game system, the cost seems steeper. Also why pay for a hard drive and the games. Say you get 10 games at $60 each: that’s $600 plus the hard drive, about $100. You just payed $700 to play $600 worth of stuff. Also lets say that the games are 10 gigs average: that is 100 GB, a 10th of the space (1 TB being about 1024 GB) (and I don’t think many people will be getting 10 games straight off the back, much less downloadable games), so it comes down to is the money worth the space, and honestly, I don’t believe it is (saying that I do plan on buying a smaller hard drive for eShop exclusives when I get my WiiU, but 250 GB will probably be more than big enough for all those titles).

    • TheWichi

      Magazines can’t be friends…

    • Bicentennial_Pidgeon

Yes they can. Now for the download size of the inevitable Wind Waker…

      :D

    • Kingzora13

that better not be a jontron reference

    • Hybrilynx

true becuz when i get stuff going my way, i will make every game always free, and the player just pays a monthly fee. it will be like netflix except it will include everything new and old.

    • 1 maga bit per sec internet

We like waiting for 15 gb files to download :3

    • itsjabby

      wii*

    • http://www.facebook.com/craigybabyxo Craig Brown

I’m pretty sure you can download games in the background, while you play other games.

    • Sonic260

There are a few advantages to having the digital copies at least. With me, I’m running out of space to keep my game discs, so I might switch to digital downloads. I can also save money because I don’t have to pay sales tax when I digitally buy a game, so I can save a few dollars there. And with the Wii U deluxe bonus, I get 10% back in eShop Points.

    • Waseem

You actually have to pay tax…

    • Sonic260

Some states in the US are excluded from having to sales tax with online purchases. Or at least with the eShop. Mine is one of them, luckily. I never had to pay sales tax when I buy software on the 3DS eShop, so chances are I won’t have to pay sales tax on the Wii U’s eShop, either.

    • corleonis88

I`ve heard you can get that tax cut if you change regions on 3ds, I don`t know if it would work on wii u, specially if you are buying from a different contry

    • name

      all canada does :/

  • http://twitter.com/GoldenToblerone Lewis Tremaine

    wow, zombiu is tiny.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/6QTAB352VPP7I7MIDAQHFFL7AE enzo

Maybe I’m wrong, but it could have something to do with compression. I mean, look at Warriors Orochi. It’s 16GB.

    • http://twitter.com/GoldenToblerone Lewis Tremaine

that makes sense, i get the feeling that orochi hasn’t had as much care taken over it as zombiu anyway tbh.
and zombiu doesn’t have the greatest looking textures in the world, whereas ACIII has a lot of detailed textures, so that probably hasn’t raised it too much.

  • Hybrilynx

assassins creed probably has the most becuz of all the talking. just saying so people kinda get why some are little and some are alot. a bigger size doesnt mean it has more stuff, it most likely just has more audio.

    • https://twitter.com/AceOfBlades247 AceOfTrolling(Was:AceOfBlades)

And we all know how much detail and how expansive it is. Plus all the stuff on the WiiU Control

    • Hybrilynx

the gamepad wouldnt make much difference. or at least when i compare their programming with web designing.

  • facetouch

Having a hard time believing some of these games are that huge, especially Just Dance 4 and Sing Party.

    • Waseem

It’s because of all the music.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/6QTAB352VPP7I7MIDAQHFFL7AE enzo

However, isn’t it entirely possible just to compress the music files? I mean, all games have music in it. Especially JRPG’s, I would say.

    • Waseem

Not only the music (but I doubt it would be compressed, it high quality) but also the dance moves and stuff. I know they wouldn’t want to just waste space on nothing.

    • corleonis88

I don`t think the xbox version of JD4is that big, there must be a reason for the extra space

    • Nivedevino

      extra songs, gamepad support, etc.

    • corleonis88

do you think games that support smartglass on xbox will be around 15 gb? and, as far as I know, wii u version of JD4 only has 3 extra songs

    • http://www.facebook.com/maxime.olivier.982 Maxime Olivier

Yes it’s possible. But I think the reason they probably keep it uncompressed is because the music is very important for these game. I think it’s the only reason why.

    • Frankydude

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe that JD stores the animation for songs as pre-rendered video files, not animations. Even the most ridiculously high quality songs couldn’t take that much space.

  • http://www.facebook.com/CoolSonicFan Brandon Rudolph

AC3 on ps3 is 11GB but on the wii u its 17GB? what makes it so much bigger?

    • Waseem

      AWESOMENESS!

    • LOL

Wii U is more powerful and thus can support more graphical data. Plus the game-pad screen data.

    • RalphWW

Because all the extra textures and gamepad screen data adds up to a whopping extra 6GB? I don’t think so…

    • Lukehalpin

Thats perplexing… And I actually doubt they spent time giving the Wii U much larger textures. 17 gigs is huge though! I’d hate to have half of my storage data already used up!

    • Tails the Foxhound

Poor data compression techniques. I mean look at Just Dance 4, that’s also a Wii game and the biggest they can get is 8GB. The hell would they have added to almost double that?

    • CBNS

They propably added HD videos for tracks. That needs lot of space.

  • http://www.facebook.com/martin.kearney.104 Martin Kearney

17 GIGA BYTES FOR AC3! Dang, that must be a HUGE game!

  • Total911

The only reason I bought Darksiders 2 on the e-Shop tonight is because it’s been a full week since “launch” and my damned town hasn’t gotten it or 007 Legends yet. And yes I do have a Gamestop.

    • Andyjoe522

I feel-ya there man. Darksiders II is one of the Games I wanted to get on launch day, and no one around here has a single copy that I’ve seen. It’s a real shame, the game deserves better than that. :(

    • 08jackt

Just a warning – 007 Legends got REALLY bad reviews. I’d stay clear if I were you.

    • BellaKazza

Zombi U is living proof that you should not buy games based on large game review companies.

    • 08jackt

      True, true.

  • IkeFE

It’s funny – the games are either really tiny(81MB) or super huge(15GB). And by the way, why the hell is Just Dance so big? :|

    • TomBollandLTD

Songs, lots and lots of songs.

    • IkeFE

1000 songs on iTunes isn’t 15GB. It’s not even 2GB :| I’m positive Just Dance doesn’t have 1000 but even if it did plus all the graphics, sounds, animations in the game, it STILL wouldn’t be 15GB. There’s just no way…

    • TomBollandLTD

Look at the smaller games, and look at this chart. Also, I don’t believe tracks would be mp3, and if they were, they’d be 320kbps.

    • Tails the Foxhound

Yeah, it’s bigger than the disc size of the Wii. What the hell did they add to it to make it 15 gigs?

  • ePik Min

    New Super Marios Bro.s U – 1733 MB
    Scribblenaust Unlimited – 1378 MB

They could fit together on single layer Wii disc :3

  • Kev

Could anyone who has a wii u confirm whether Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is available in the eshop – its not on this list but is on this one -

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_U_games

    Thanks.

    • Ice Climbers

It’s not available on the eShop unfortunately.

    • Ice Climbers

Never mind, it’s available on the eShop now for $54.99. It wasn’t available on the eShop at first.

    • Kev

Thanks Ice, was thinking about getting this but that price is ridiculous compared to buying a physical copy online.

  • Total911

Hey David I was going to send this through email but I couldn’t find yours. I really want you to maybe post about this (If you feel like it) because if this gets enough support on kickstarter then this fantastic-looking Mega-Drive-Authentic game could be released on WiiU!

    • Tails the Foxhound

Hmm, I’ve been seeing this around a lot lately. Maybe I should donate…

  • Brandos12

Wow..Assassins Creed III would take up 17 out of 20GB of my monthly usage! eff that..

    • Big E

Wish I had a 20GB monthly plan. I have unlimited data but that tends to slow down…Plus it’s from my phone via tethering/hotspot.

  • Omarsonic9

Scribblenaust Unlimited – Sequel to Scribblenauts Unlimited!

  • Andyjoe522

Can some confirm to me what 9574 MB is in GB? I’m assuming it’s about 9.5.

  • GLaDOS

    typo… you wrote scribblenaust unlimited

    • http://twitter.com/powerclaw1 Powerclaw1

And New Super Mario Bro.s U…

  • Nikaan Koupaei

Holy molee!! look at darksiders 2!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/craigybabyxo Craig Brown

Some of these listings are typed out pointlessly. 1024MB is 1GB… So why not just work it out and put it in GB format if it’s over 1024MB?

  • Kaizar

I see that Assassin’s Creed 3 & Just Dance 4 & Sing Party & Warrior’s Orochi 3 Hyper have all surpass the 10 GB mark, and the Wii U is only 1 week old.

It’s a good thing the Wii U has Dual Layer disc like the Wii.

Plus the Wii U game disc, disc speed is 2.5 to 4 times faster then the PS3 & 360 game disc, slow disc speed.

Just think of it as the fast disc speed of 3D Blu-Rays vs. the slow disc speed of 2D Blu-Rays.

    WE THE BEST! FOREVER!

  • pongo

i ve got a question: on wii u the games also save gamedata on the hard disk?

    • https://twitter.com/AceOfBlades247 AceOfTrolling(Was:AceOfBlades)

      Of Course, I think.

  • https://twitter.com/AceOfBlades247 AceOfBlades247

…I feel that in the future Technology is going to crash with all the digital stuff these days…

  • pongo

then its useless to have the wii u if it saves gamedata like on the other consoles, having to buy additional hard drives so you can play its not worth it, bummer i wont buy the wii u then

    • https://twitter.com/AceOfBlades247 AceOfTrolling(Was:AceOfBlades)

It’s not Useless. Never say a Console is Useless. Remember you don’t have to buy the digital version if you don’t want to. There’s always the reliable Physical Copy. You don’t have to download it into a hard drive, the Wii U is also compatible with SD Cards and Flash Drive, or so I’ve heard.

    • corleonis88

I agree, except that sd cards can only be used for wii content (and some selected wii u content, like pics and stuff) but not for wii u data

    • Tails the Foxhound

You go ahead and try to play a bunch of games on the bare bones $300 360. It only has 4GB, you won’t be playing long.

    • Hybrilynx

i like how you are honest. my xbox has 120GB of some kind of memory built in on it.

  • pongo

you cant copy the games you download on sd cards and so on , but my point wasnt on the eshop titles im refering to disc games, i was very clear, i asked if the games need to save gamedata on the console, not save data, gamedata, cause if it does then the wii u its useless, as you have to buy additional hard drive so you can play the games.
they should of given us alot of space like the other consoles

  • Gamerbroz

Wow with the memory that some games have Nintendo could of made New Super Mario Bros. U 10 times as big. :D

  • Tails the Foxhound

I think there’s some funny business going on with those download sizes. I think the compression techniques are probably still being worked on with the Wii U.

  • bob

whoa wasn’t expected most of them to be so spacy!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/EJ76R34WQOHVBWQPHUX5G2FQEQ Theo Hamilton

Ya, I have 0.5 megabits per second down so I might not be downloading games.

  • Sonic20012

For the record, I’m totally against downloading retail games digitally. It’s like when the President of Audi said, “You have to be an IDIOT to buy an electric car!” Well I’m saying, “You have to be an IDIOT to buy a retail game digitally!” I’m ok with buying $5 eShop games on the 3DS, but not $40-$60 retail games for 3DS and Wii U and my PS3.

  • One guy

Hmm.. Should i spend money on a new harddrive or just reformat my old 200 gig one..
