Zelda HD TV Display Small

Nintendo has announced that a brand-new Zelda title is in development for the Wii U. We don’t have a name, or an actual look at this game, but Eiji Aonuma — the producer of the recent Zelda titles — expressed interest in reworking the structure of what we’ve come to expect from Zelda. What that means for the moment is up for interpretation though, so feel free to make wild guesses in the comments.

This game is going to be so good…

    • http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3204673/ GameManiac

If it looks like THAT, then of course it will be.

    • Marty

Well I hope they pull of the zelda 1 esq structure like they talked about in the nintendo direct I just hope fans and the overnestolgic don’t rag on it’s art style if it’s not twilight princess-y, witch I think was the third weakest in the series next to Oot and four swords.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bob.j.cunningham Bob Joseph Cunningham

Oh trust me, they’ll complain. But eventually this game with become nostalgic. And then people will complain if they change it again. It’s the circccccle of liiiiife

    • Marty

*and stupidity. -_-’. Over nostalgic people, why I hate the Facebook community. (well the casuals contribute as well…) And I know the’ll complain it will be wind waker all over again, people get all hyped for a tech demos art direction, we get one of the best entry’s into the series and it’s hated for no reason other than peoples own expectation on the art direction.

    • Benjamin Kiehl

OOT is one of the best, not worst in the series.

    • Marty

      It really falls on mediocre.

    • Samuel sánchez

Wow it amaze the lack of good taste the actual gaming generation have by saying that OOT was mediocre, no words here

    • Ichigo Kurosaki

OOT was a good game but by far wasn’t the best just cuz it was the first 3d zelda. I think MM was better than OOT. But that’s just me. But to be honest Windwaker and TP were waaaaaayyyy better than OOT. OOT was just a classic. Just becuz it’s a classic doesn’t mean it’s the best one.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bob.j.cunningham Bob Joseph Cunningham

In the contrary, I think it’s the best because it had better dungeon design, the plot wasnt overly complicated but even followable, each item had a long time to get used to as the weapon findings were kinda spread out. Good game, minus the water temple

    • boyonthemoon

I’m looking forward to the nonlinear core of the game so much, it will be an awesome zelda experience as for the art style i have something in mind that could possibly be true. the first steps of the development process for the new zelda were to rework other zelda games’ graphic style into HD. that’s why we’re getting an HD windwaker.(totally looking forward to that too) they obviously took the other games and made small parts of them HD too. that may include the first few games in the series, so I’m speculating the artstyle will be a more realistic looking version of zelda 1 and zelda 2′s artsyle. it could be cool!

  • lonewolf

if this game isnt a continue game to twilight princess then it won’t be anything huge they could do so much with a game that continues from twilight …

    • Marty

to be fair the only fully explored timeline is the one where link dyes see > http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2011/12/29631a766f1537530abc0ec5e6d15515.jpg

    • Hybrilynx

twilight princess is like the only good zelda there is. 2nd is majoras mask, which should have been the remade one, not ocarina of time.

    • GamerBlue53

      Ocarina of Time?

    • Marty

Okay, why is everyone counting out a majoras mask? It’s probably just the easier remake because the code is still probably usable, thus easier to take assets from wind waker. I feel a remake with a lot of effort will be done after the new zelda. (even if that is 2016/2017). But since Miyamoto said ether a link to the past or majora’s mask, I hope he goes majoras mask. Majoras mask actually feels dated. Also I feel you haven’t given that many zelda titles a shot if you think twilight princess is best.

    • Benjamin Kiehl

Yeah, and I think it’s odd that someone said OOT is the second worst in the series. mean, sure it’s slghtly overrated, but it still is one of the best in the series.

    • Marty

It’s still mediocre compared to every other 3d zelda though. Granted it’s still a good zelda, but not as good as majoras mask, wind waker, and skyward sword.

    • MooPoint

Marty, Ocarina of Time is hailed as among the best game ever in gaming community based on vote by many gamer. I am sure people are different and have different taste and like different games, while some like OOT some think it is a mediocre (like yourself).

But if you keep calling OOT a mediocre game as a fact, I am afraid you are wrong because many other Zelda fans like the game very much. It is not a mediocre game for us.

    • Samuel sánchez

Agreed let’s just call it good taste and lack of good taste.

    • Littlebigmusic

Actually, I’d call it an opinion vs another opinion.I’m slightly in the same boat as Marty. I didn’t grow up with an N64, hell I didn’t even get my own Nintendo home console until the Gamecube and even then I was pretty late to the Zelda party. With Wind Waker being my first Zelda title I had ever beaten in 2007. I “could” have grown up with it, but I only ever had a Genesis and a Playstation (Gameboy being my handheld). What I’m really getting at is, going from WW to OoT is a WEIRD jump backwards. The improved overall controls and family of lively characters (including Link) was a weird thing to lose when going to OoT. Granted, I did chuckle at the LonLon Ranch (the characters there had so much life) and there were a few others, but nothing like WW. I know the N64 had graphical limitations and it was the “starting point” for 3D Zelda games, but that’s why I enjoy the later ones so much more. They improved on what Ocarina gave them and I appreciate it as a game, but sadly it doesn’t even make top 5 for me and I’ve beaten it 3 times. MM, WW, SS, LA, Alttp. Again, this is just my opinion.

    • Marty

see, your the other side to prove my point. You don’t have a nostalgic bias towards oot, so you can see it a little clearer on how it has aged.

    • CastTD

Not really because he said his first zelda game was WW meaning that’s the zelda game he actually would be most nostalgic towards. I started with OoT and have just recently played and beat MM and TP i 4 got to map locations in WW so i stopped playing it i got to getting the tri force pieces i think hoping to play it again with the upcoming remake. I dont really have a fave but i can easily see why OoT has so much praise and imo it’s because it was first.

    • Littlebigmusic

True, true. Wind Waker was my favorite for the past few years until I got Majora’s Mask for my birthday last year. I was crazy biased (still kinda am). Also I happen to be a girl. Just saiyan. c:

    • Marty

Okay…how to put this… you seem to fall under the over nostalgic category here, and you are using examples as such. Just like that dude hating on Pokemon a good five months back. Coming from the non over nostalgic side of the group most Zelda fans say majoras mask actually (usually about 80% of the time actually). Nostalgia goggles or not you’re just missing out on some good zelda, but you have your right to your opinion. Just don’t use the EVREYONEELSE Says thing, it’s factually untrue here. Oot does kick ass overall, just less ass then wind waker, majoras mask, and skyward sword.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bob.j.cunningham Bob Joseph Cunningham

I’m not wearing nostalgia goggles, Ocarina of Time is one of the last Zelda games I played and it’s definitely my favorite

    • Hybrilynx

ive seen my brother play skyward sword doing i think 3 temples already. skyward sword really doesnt feel special.

    • Hybrilynx

only zelda’s i didnt play, was i think spirit tracks, and anything not in 3d like gba ones and nes ones. which i did play them before, just not beat them. i guess skyward sword too.

    • thatguy

Skyward Sword was a good game, but SO EASY. I never once felt challenged in that game, whereas in OOT, MM, and WW felt much more difficult. I think that’s important in a zelda game. SS was groundbreaking and all, and a ton of fun, but I just breezed through it. None of the mind-bending puzzles and obstacles I’d come to love overcoming.

    • Jray

like what? midna cant come back (the mirror broke), link can’t become a wolf again without the twilight or that little shadow thing midna would hold on to… wouldn’t it basically be just link in hyrule?… it’d be cool to see wolf link and midna again but unless there is another mirror or nintendo decides to neglect the ending, i don’t see how it could happen :/

  • http://www.facebook.com/JonathanRider Johnny Rider

Well he said there would be a less linear structure which is pretty good that we’ll be able to play how we want to instead of having to complete it in a certain way. And he also mentioned multiplayer which might be cool but I hope they concentrate more on single player.

    • Zack

But I seriously hope they don’t screw it up by making a Zelda game that can be completed in any you want. The two things about Zelda games that they discussed as revising were:
      1. Completing dungeons in a certain order
      2. Having it be a single player game
It would really suck if they made a zelda game that could be completed in ‘Levels’ and with ‘other people’.

    • thatguy

I agree that the classic Zelda formula has served me well, as well as the franchise, but what’s so bad about an open-world Zelda game with dungeons that can be completed in any order? I’m sure they’ll have just as many items, and the items will be just as important in dungeons, you will probably just acquire these items outside of the dungeon, breaking the dungeon->item->boss pattern.

    • Samuel sánchez

Agreed if they don’t screw it, removing that formula can be a big boom and the game will be different for everyone since they can choose different paths, I can’t wait for to try this game!

  • D darkonline

    Forget it gamemaniac

nintendo has already confirmed they wil use Skyward sword graphics
only with more fidelity aka hd upgraded

  • http://twitter.com/AyaneKimura ♡AуaηєღKɪmυяa♡

I’d rather have a Zelda game that looks like the one in the screenshots.

    • Marty

Did you watch the nintendo direct? this is to hold us over for the new zelda, because zelda titles tend to take awhile. Like half a decade while.

  • DrunkEnShadow

    This gonna be so epic!

  • Hybrilynx

    hope it takes 5 years.

    • Benjamin Kiehl

Depends. Do you want it to take them 5 years so they can make a great new game, or because you dislike Zelda?

    • Hybrilynx

im tired of seeing zelda. they need to get rid of it for years like they did metroid, which is 100 times better then zelda.

  • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

No matter what they do, I trust them on this. Eiji’s a genius producer with Miyamoto’s legendary franchise.

    • http://PolyKhromeGames.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

If I had to guess, I think they might just make an open-world Zelda game and perhaps even allow for playable characters partnered with Link on his open-world quest. At least, that’s what I’m dreaming for with a Wii U Zelda game. And I can only imagine the great new items they’re going to incorporate into the game with the GamePad touchscreen.

  • Zelda is awesome0645

    It’s a wind waker remake

  • Kking64

Well…a reworked structure. What if the new ideas what a homage to Legend of Zelda 2. It will be side-scrolling plus 3-D, almost making it a whole new idea to the series, both new and old.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tony.lane.35 Tony Lane

If Nintendo uses Retro’s graphics engine or CryEngine3 on a Zelda title for the U, I’ve got two words for ya– MASSIVE NOSEBLEED!!!!!!!!!

  • Ichigo Kurosaki

Sooooooo, if I can remember correctly, we have at least 4 different Zelda games being worked on right now. Or 5 technically. An HD remake of Windwaker, a brand new Zelda for Wii U, and don’t 4get they said either Alttp or Majora’s Mask would be redone for 3ds. Then they said they were working on a brand new Zelda as well for 3ds. And that it would be two version of it like Oracles and Seasons. If this is still true I have just one question……where is my Metroid Wii U???

    • Hybrilynx

      I MOTHER F***************** KNOW RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i gotta make a game look just like metroid soon. im glad i know how to make browser games though. if only i was good at freaking art.

  • InterTripleteWorldChampion

This is the reason #1 for most Nintendo users to buy Wii U. It’s D1 will give a strong boost to Wii U sales. This will not be a simple game, this will be a masterpiece. As usual, as in the past 25 years. Zelda rulez!
